Anime Relations: Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Tsuioku-hen, Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan
You know, I find it kind of interesting. I've seen many people become so obsessed with wanting to watch a series in the order of the events that happen within the show.

I never understood this.
Often times, prequels require a knowledge of the original material to be appreciated on their own, even if within the story, it chronologically takes place beforehand.

I'm in the camp of people who would much rather want to watch a series in the order it's been aired.

I feel like if I stick to the airing order going between different shows and OVAs, the arc of the story usually tends to make more sense, as often times, more is revealed to the viewer that they would have already known, even if the events take place beforehand.

One example: I would never watch "Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal" OVA before watching the "Rurouni Kenshin" TV series, even though it is a prequel.

What does everybody else think of this?

I also agree, although sometimes prequels don't require you to know everything from the first show. As for OVA's, I don't watch those after the show most of the time, Shiki being an exception as the OVA's play directly in the middle of the story. Depends, I guess.

I agree w/ the person below- the Fate series in an exception - I watched the prequel (Fate/Zero) before the original (Fate/Stay Night). Although, you probably should watch F/SN first since it'll seem awful after watching Fate/Zero... (F/Z is awesome though, you should watch it!)

Yeah, I've never seen any of the Fate/ series, so I can't comment on them.

As for Kenshin, it's pretty great. :)

I agree with you. I'd rather watch the series first and then the other things aired after it. It has more character development and more details of the plot. I would probably not understand what significance the prequel would have on the main story until the very end. There may also be things mentioned in the series that was not mentioned in the prequel. OVAs and Specials are more like "desserts" than "appetizers" to me.

Not sure if this counts, but I think the Fate/ stories are an exception. I see that you haven't watched these, so I'll just stop there. I haven't seen the Rurouni Kenshin series yet, but I plan to.
