Hair
Akiko has long hair that changes between dark-ish blue and a fairly dark purple shade depending of the picture. Both colors are good so I don’t mind, but dude, consistency. Both anime have her mostly as purple tho. Color aside her hair isn’t bad, it’s fairly long and she has two cute “hair horns” on front, just like her daughter. Kaori has them too, as well as the twins from Clannad; must be a Key thing. Finally her hair is in a long-ish braid she has over her right shoulder, always. Braids are nice and I appreciate seeing a girl sporting one as they’re kind of rare! Sadly, we NEVER see her with her hair down. Ever. In either anime. Nor in the game it seems. Never. Even fanart doesn’t do that. It’s a bit strange. I mean, I like braids, but long flowing hair too! She still does great, but…

Blue eyes, what a surprise. In fact that’s one of the few legitimate flaws Kanon has, most girls have blue eyes for some dull reason. Seriously, only 3 girls have another eye color and one is green and another purple, originality! That said Akiko’s eyes aren’t too bad, they match her hair well and I kinda like how Kanon eyes look for some reason. 2006 Kanon that is, Toei Kanon is a bit silly. She also never wears glasses; it seems Mai has the exclusivity for that.

Build
Again, nothing impressive here. Except for one thing: Akiko HAS MEASUREMENTS! Oh, how I missed them so much! At 165 cm she’s not overly tall, but she’s not short either. Only Mai and the guys are taller than her. Her weight is 50 cm, biggest of the female cast and possibly due to her age. Her measurements are 86/57/83, because even Kanon has the flaw where every girl has bigger breasts than hips, except Shiori who is quite literally the flattest girl and only has bigger hips by 1 cm, boo. To be fair bust sizes only win by 1-3 cm, but it’s lame still. Though it could be worse, Air gives to literally every single girl bigger breasts than hips, even the loli! At least Clannad is slightly more balanced and Little Busters outright gives all the girls but the bustiest one and the EX-only girl bigger hips, so thankfully Key learned from this. Anyway the main problem Akiko has with this isn’t her silly measurements, but how her clothes are so loose and unrevealing. We can’t really blame her since it’s a cold-ass Winter and all that, but not even official art helps here. KyoAni, I know Clannad was directed by Ned Flanders, but Kanon was back when they were still sane, so no excuses! Oh well, from what we can infer she’s alright but nothing special, like her score.

While once again IS WINTER helps to explain things a bit, it won’t change the fact her clothes are all fairly standard cardigans, tube skirts, blouses and other “normal” clothes like that. She does have a pair of pants, too! There are only two noteworthy outfits: Her somewhat nice gypsy-like costume in one pic, and notably HER DAUGHTER’S CUTE SCHOOL UNIFORM in the game! Okay, you only see her from the shoulder up, so it’s not that great, but is good Key figured how awesome this uniform was and made as many girls as possible wear it!

Akiko is pretty much the ideal caring mother. Yes, I know I said something similar last week, shut up. She is always shown working hard at home and being nice and caring for her daughter, her daughter’s cousin, and any and all strays they pick up, meaning Ayu, Makoto and Piroshiki. She’s also the token ideal housewife that does her job perfectly, included her cooking. Well, minus her JAM! For some reason her jam is awful, but don’t tell her that. Her jam is so bad in Eternal Fighter Zero her strongest special is making her enemy eat some of it, and note one of her “normal” ones is smashing a truck on the enemy’s head. Hell, they even mentioned it on Clannad After Story, of course served alongside the “Sanae’s bread” cheap rip-off! Jam issues aside she apparently has a job which no one knows, and she lacks a husband, oddly just like every single mother that I’ve done this month. The topic is never brought off even though said husband is implied to be the main’s uncle, so you’d think he’d care a little. Oh well, no big deal. She took care of her daughter by herself so they’re really close, so another point for her. In fact that’s part of her daughter’s arc but I’m not going into details. She’s quick to reply to questions and often says yes. Overall Akiko is a great and kind caring mother, which probably helps to explain why she’s one of the most popular anime mothers. Ahem.
