Identifying a waifu troll thread.
Anime Relations: The iDOLM@STER
It is been a week when I started shitposting with my waifu on /a/. It is of course interesting to participate in these threads no matter how shitty they are. I do have to say that waifu threads on /a/ has absolutely nothing to do with /a/ because it isn't animu.
Most waifu threads are not even relevant to /a/ because they typically involve posting image of your favorite character. This would lead to a huge spam of images which could have belonged to /c/ in the first place. Then again /a/ is a silly place to go for a discussion, you would wake up in the morning one day for someone to discuss an underrated anime currently airing this season. But chances are, you would not find one, because it is overwhelmed by waifu threads and those topics can be possibly be used to gather attention to ignite the trolling flame.
Welcome to summer. Multiple threads begin with either 'Do X if your waifu is posted', 'What if you're waifu becomes 3DPD' and 'RATE MAI WAIFU PLZ XDD' as a topic, beautiful if you can't really think of any topics to begin with. Recall the troll guide made by some faggot on MAL which was a few months ago. Instead of aiming at a whole bunch of random people, you could be entirely specific, like targeting a bunch of people that mindlessly follows the culture of /a/. Once you found those people, it will be like hitting the jackpot once you create a huge shitstorm because you know you can cater to your niche audience.
There are many types of waifufags, ones that are seriously devoted to their entire love for their chosen fictional character and gave up on building relationships with people from real life society. Or ones that pick their favorite animu character to fit in and becoming a hipster gangster. There are various degrees how one would treat their virtual partner, as they would either respect them like as if they were their big sister or worship them like a goddess. The point is that once you target a type of waifufag, you can make different types of waifufags like hitting down dominoes and make each and every waifufag fall.
Let's look an example of a typical waifu troll thread and dissect it into tiny little pieces:
a) Filename. As you can see the use of 'average /a/ user pillow', is to humiliate a typical user on /a/. Though it could be either that he is from /v/ or he knows /a/ enough to do so. Maybe both.
b) Subject. Purpose of including 'Claim your waifu/Marry you waifu' as their subject post is supposed to make people post as an image as quick as they can. Just like one of those 'You have 10 seconds to be tsundere' threads. No discussion, nothing, just there to make people spam images everywhere.
c) Post topic. Usually, when you provide an argument, you would back it up with evidence. For example, once you got your picture and your subject all in hand, all you have to do is to describe why the need to post the waifu to complete the huge puzzle.
Oh boy here's another one. Been away for a day and I see this. How funny.
Of course, waifu threads can aim to lure other people into their threads. Below is an autistic guy who devotes himself into waifu threads every single day as much as he can during his awakening period.
Regardless of his sage, those who can access to the catalog will pretty much post in the waifu thread, if it becomes a waifu thread because of him, who cares? Of course, if it was just a simple troll thread where nobody posts, it would have been bumped off the page, but with panda posting, I believe his mission is make /a/ suffer under having waifu threads for eternity. Mention the word 'waifu' in your post/picture, and you will have guaranteed replies. Sakurafish is as bad as it is, but we know we all love Sakurafish even if we are pretending to hate the posts made by Sakurafish. But with waifu threads, they should tone down a little. The topic can be as repetitive as ever and with more topics being made, you might as well spam the same picture. Hence, you do not see different pictures of Koyomi, but with the same Koyomi sitting on a panda's head.
Waifu threads are becoming a problem lately but it is impossible to eradicate them. You cannot destroy a culture instantly. /a/ seems to have transformed a concept of what has been a joke to a serious one, implementing their blog problems to the board because if they decided to visit any other board, they will be mocked at by normalfags. This creates the division of /a/ (also possibly /jp/) from many other boards, a split between 'normalfaggotry' and 'autistic people with other added mental illness who look at their picture of their beloved one'.
Hence you would break down the wall of both sides. Mixing normalfaggotry with waifuism to enhance the effect of waifu troll threads. Such as adding the elements of doing /fit/-related activities to the topic. It will cause people to talk and blog about their exercise rather than talking about their waifu. Or hitting it up with saying that you actually have a girlfriend and tell /a/ that they are full of losers, while samefagging that same thread mentioning it is just a joke which can result in more replies. You see, summerfags already know how to stir shit up in many variety of ways.
Thus, with the exception of Wednesday/Friday waifu threads which could lead to an in-depth discussion about anime/manga characters, the theoretical practices of waifuism and/or deep appreciation for their waifus, it is best to avoid in participating in those type of threads that typically is one-liner, thread that seems to troll and meaningless waifu threads where you have to do some attention whoring to prove your love for her.
So what do you when you encounter a waifu thread with no actual discussion whatsoever?
It is pretty simple actually.
1) Report.
2) Hide.
3) Get a waifu.
Bitching in a thread is not going to do anything. You can whinge all you want but waifu threads are to stay even if they are the most cancerous shit on earth. Do yourself a favor and use the utilities on the internet given to you, there is a filter, USE it. Hate tripfags? Use Anonymiser. And best of all, that is what the hide action is for, so you can ignore shit threads if you really really have to.
Finally, if there is an ignorant faggot that talks shit about your waifu and you are really sensitive to it, you know what to do. Hide it.
