Yuki didn't do it! - A different take on Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
Anime Relations: Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (2009), Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
So we now have the latest release from the Suzumiya Haruhi franchise, and in all honesty it's a pretty good affair, truth be told. The one thing that separates the movie from the two main TV series is the fact that the story is far more complete than one would expect.
But I'm not here to discuss that (especially as I've already reviewed the movie).
So what is this all about then, if not a review of the movie? Well, there's numerous threads, blogs, comments, posts, etc, etc about Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu, and they all seem to have one thing in common - they all work on the assumption that the events in the movie are caused by one person.
The problem is that they may be blaming the wrong person.
WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD! You should only click on the button if you've seen the movie or don't care about ruining the story.
Well, that's your lot for now. It all probably doesn't make much sense, and I may change sections to make them more understandable later. Hopefully I've got my point across though.

i think i finished reading everything in this blog entry in less then a minute, and now i feel like i've reached Nirvana. *imitates shining monk* Anyway, i agree with a lot of what is said, although the bit about Yuki crushed my Yuki x Kyon dreams. (They just fit together perfectly in my mind, you know?!) |

Kyon is a human. Haruhi is protecting him (her object of affection) with her powers, of course, subconsciously. It's natural to harbor a permanent desire to protect the one you love, right? "Subconsciously Haruhi knows exactly whats going on, and she also knows that Yuki isn't actually a real human." No she doesn't. It has been stated that her logic, as a human, tells her these things cannot possibly exist (aliens and stuff) therefor it's preventing her to actually believe. That's why even when Kyon told her straight up the truth behind everything she didn't believe him, because if she would have had those suspicions about Yuki then Kyon would have confirmed them at that point and she would have reacted differently for sure. But since the authors didn't want that, we got what we got: Haruhi still doesn't have a clue and everything is awwwwllright. |

Yup, these are very plausible theories. I also agree that Haruhi subconsciously caused the events in the movie to happen. Yuki was just a "tool" in this case. Let's see if this interpretation is as the author intended in the future arcs.....since we still don't know the reason why Kyon is "special" (other than the love thingy)

An interesting take. Taking into account Haruhi being a god and having the ability to manipulate time and space to an unlimited degree I believe that Kyon was actually given the ability of a slider, if not created by her in the first place. This also splits my opinion into two: 1] Since we ALL know Haruhi loves Kyon it's possible she granted him the abilities or simply protected him subconsciously from the changes to a certain extent (eg. Endless Eight). Which would make the Endless Eight arc a simple shout for attention from Haruhi. 2] Kyon was created by Haruhi to fill-in a missing spot of a stop-mechanism to protect Haruhi herself from self-destructing or subconsciously disrupting the time and space continuum. (eg. The Movie Shoot) Well, I wrote too much, Hope someone will still read this after so much time has passed. |

Interesting! But I thought Tanigawa made it clear that Kyon is a normal human "no matter what". That's the impression I got, therefore I left it at that. But it would be interesting if there's some truth to this hypothesis. I don't feel quite comfortable when you say Ryoko is a potential love interest for Kyon. Well, you're pretty likely right, but then Haruhi is REALLY mistaken! Ryoko is like Kyon's worst nightmare after *that* incident. But I understand that you're referring to before she disappeared, when she was the cheerful type ranked "A++" by Taniguchi. I'm also really looking forward to when he's gonna go back in time and clean up. He gets pushed down the stairs by Ryoko? No, phantom girl. Whoever that is. He must handle Ryoko though, somehow. Wooosh, I can't wait... that's exactly why I'm reading the light novels >.> |
