I figure since I'm going to be administrating and moderating an anime site, I should probably have something to say about the anime I watch and the manga I read. It doesn't need to be profound or exciting, but I'd like to know where I stand, and maybe you do too. So let's do this thing, shall we?

Aye, it's a little odd that I'm starting off with a manga, but they hold my interest far better than anime for some reason. I've always been a big bookworm, so that may have something to do with it. No matter the reason, I finished reading Solanin today, and I was a bit impressed.

For those of you that have not read Solanin, it's a slice of life/drama manga that revolves around the lives of twenty-somethings trying to figure out where their lives are going. I won't give too many names (partially because I'm bad with names) because trying to figure out what each character stood for and who they were inside was part of the fun of reading this manga. At the vulnerable age of 20-something, the characters are fighting through everyday life, battling jobs they hate and their own relationships. As they interact and struggle or fail together, they come to understand what is important to each of them. It's fairly serious, if I say so myself.

I think this manga really struck home with me, because I'm facing many of the challenges the characters were. I've recently moved out of the house into an apartment, I'm in my third year of college, and I have a minimum-wage boring job. I'm fighting to understand what I should be doing right now, and I'm honestly not making any progress. It's nice to know that I might not be alone out here, and that it's probably okay to fail a few times. Instead of bringing me lower and depressing me (which I was totally expecting), this manga really gave me a bit of a new look at life.

Long story short, if you're in college, becoming an adult, trying to make it on your own, read this manga. You probably have a lot in common. ^_^

ENOUGH OF THIS SELF-REFLECTIVE NONSENSE! Woot has to go shoot zombies now.
