Hunter x Hunter (Chp5, Ep6 (part one), Ep3 (part one)
Anime Relations: Hunter x Hunter, Hunter x Hunter (2011)
I am now continuing my coverage of Hunter x Hunter and comparing and contrasting the old and new Anime adaptations to the actual Manga, among other things. My first entry, which covers Chp1, Ep1-2 & Ep1 (part one) is here.
Chapter Five ~ Manga
The trio is led to a building and a password is given. They then go down to the entrance and meet Tonpa, who tries to give them soda with laxative in it after Hisoka cuts off the arms of a man.
Episodes Six (part one) ~ Original Adaptation
The storyline starts off being the same, but then ends up with some major changes, some of which I can't talk about until my next entry. The changes made actually have to do with what I consider to be some rather ridiculous censorship issues. Hisoka's killing of the man comes off screen and is passed off as paralysis and one is left wondering if it is really Killua who did it. Tonpa also doesn't give the drinks with laxatives to the trio.
Episodes Three (part one) ~ New Adaptation
I am going to say that plot wise, the story follows the Manga very well. There are two changes though that occur, and they deal with art work and animation. The father who takes them is switched out for the son and the restaurant has a very different style to it. The arms are also shown to be disappearing via Nen usuage, which is not introduced until later on.
Opinion
I am going to say that the new adaptation is closer to the original here. I say this because I believe the reason for changing the artwork at the very beginning was to make sure it was different from the original adaptation at that point. If it had followed the Manga, it would have been considered possibly a cheep knock off of the original. I also found the original version to be confusing, due to the censorship changes they made to what Hisoka did to the man. Adding in the Nen stuff actually made sense to, because I was left wondering how the cards could have sliced a clean cut like that.
Score: 1-4; 0-5
