SynopsisMeet Chako and her friends from the Cosplay Association at East Oizuki Academy! They're the hottest new cosplay team in Japan...fresh from a winning streak of local battles, they're set to sweep the Cosplay World Series!
Yeah, right.
In reality, Chako and her friends are barely able to keep their club alive at all. Feeble club membership and a lack of sponsorship might be the end of their cosplay dreams before they can even start. But don't you dare underestimate this group of spunky girls! They'll survive a barrage of pervy newcomers, cosplay rivalries, costume disasters and dating mishaps in order to reach their ultimate goal of competing in the World Series. The clothing flies as the girls suit up (and strip down) for Cosplay Complex!

Cosplay complex is a three episode OVA about... well, cosplay...
Story: Cosplay Complex, in a nutshell, is about a cosplay club in a high school. (Can't really say anymore because one little thing can spoil 1/3 of the episode ==)
The story kinda highlights a few main events in a sport anime and doesn't really follow have a logical plot but since this anime is an individual OVA, it does not have to make sense.
Art: What can I say here? This is made in 2002, so you just have to lower your expectation a bit. For that time period, the animation is not too shabby. While it's not your kyo-ani style, it should satisfy your basic visual stanards.
Sound: There is not much good background music in Cosplay complex. The OP or the ED are nothing speical too. But if you happen to like Mahou Shoujo OPs (gauken alice, cardcaptor), I would say it's not bad.
Characters: This is pretty much the charm of this anime. Cosplay Complex has a good set of characters. Made simply for comedy, these characters are pretty stereotypical of a group of high school girls, an "eccentric" guy and various randies for comical relief. While the characters has no background whatsoever, one should just forget about all the troubles you have with drama-based anime and just laugh away. Also, due to the fact that this has cosplay, get your anime checklist ready to spot the parody (got quite a few every episode)
Enjoyment: All I have to say is "don't think too much about this anime, you're not going to be pondering about character development or plot twists and stuff. Just watch it with an empty mind and you'll probably enjoy this."
This is probably for more hard-core anime watchers. I don't think normal people and new anime-watchers can really grasp it's humor read more

I´m not one of those otaku fan boys that go up in cosplay and stuff like that, but i LOVED cosplay complex. it had a decent story, a great set of characters and was, for me, hilariously funny. it was extremely well drawn and the scenes where Chako is dressed up in samurai are was incredibly and beautifully drawn. But it could be longer, the story ends rather sharply, with a cliffhanger that doesn´t really make sense.
But it is important to watch Cosplay complex as a story rather than a parody as it fails miserably at being one.
It is an great anime, but it leaves you wanting more. Reccomended.
Have a nice Chako-day. read more

It is very satiric, making fun of the sort of people that enjoy anime.

Both are hilarious comedies (Excel Saga it is much more) where allusion is made to others animes.
