Both are sci-fi anime based on the works of Masamune Shirow. They both are made around the same period, so they have similar art and animation. They have a somewhat similar vibe, since they both have military vs cyborg action and some goofy humor.

If you watch every single second available of appleseed, you will love appleseed as much as you love GITS. They are both in a distant and high tech future. They also have robots and robotic transplants. They are both about an organization helping the city against terrorists, so there are a lot of shoots and guns and people betraying each other.

Both are set in a utopian, perfect, utilitarian society controlled by a supercomputer. The viewer and characters question the usefulness of the system and society as a whole.

Both series are about a futuristic police force where robots play a role. They are not the same by any means, but they are of a similar enough style that if you like one, you will probably like the other.

This is a futuristic action police drama about a detective who is assigned to a police force on Mars. Here he meets Armitage, a hot-headed detective with a taste for violence and wearing as little as possible. The two investigate violent crimes against cyborgs and end up uncovering some shocking truths.

- Both are very 80's and 90's cyberpunk, Armitage III is more depressing and dark though. - The way both stories are told are also reminiscent of old original OVA's from their time. - Great aesthetic

Both series are set in a futuristic society where cyborgs are the norm and follow characters with similar roles. Appleseed follows a specialized police tactical team who deal with violent cyborgs, while Bubblegum Crisis is about a group of women who act as vigilantes/mercenaries fighting cyborg crime outside the law. Both are must-see series if you are a fan of Cyberpunk.
