Both are about ayakashi and yokai, share a bit of story and they both have a Zashiki-Warashi in it. xxxHolic is pretty dark, while Natsume Yuujinchou is lighter and uses more colours.

The character of Watanuki (xxxHolic) is very similar to Natsume (Natsume Yuujinchou). Even though the stories of the two series are different except for the boy-who-can-see-spirits thing, the "feel" is the same. Also, Nyan-ko sensei is kinda like a cross between kuro-Mokona and the Kudakitsune.

Both series start out very similarly, both of the main characters are being chased by spirits which only they can see. Both are fairly episodic though xxxHOLiC definitely links more episodes together.

Both main characters are the only one's in the story that can see spirits. They also share the same sense of loneliness that comes with it. There's a few episodes in both Natsume Yuujinchou & xxxHolic that go into true detail about their feelings of being alone. It's drama unlike i've ever seen before, and i love that part about each of these shows, so much. If you've seen one of these shows, then i highly recommend you check out the other.

Both protagonist can see things others can't and have a best friend who accepts them for that, even though he can't see spirits himself. The protagonist's guardians and loving yet harsh on them, teasing them a lot. I am sure that if you love one you will love the other. Both series' offer a lot of knowledge into Japanese folklore and provide characters you will fall in love with.

In both anime there's a boy who can see yõkai and want's to get rid of the ability. Involves also a lot of adventures in/with/about the spirit world.

Well, as already many ppl said:
both series have main character really similar: Watanuki Kimihiro & Natsume Takashi. They are good guys, with a special ability: they are able to see spirits/ghosts/demons.. They also share the 'loneliness' side, b'cuz of their capacity they are usual to be alone.. Maybe watanuki's personality is a bit more 'funny-comic' than that natsume, but anyway they are both real good ppl with a "golden heart" that help others.
About the story, well both stories are really similar b'cuz of the *oriental japanese tradition* in them, about the traditions to believe in something like typical japanese spirits and about all the atmosphere!
The way how both stories are showed, is simply awesome: delicated, sweet and loveable.
About Natsume, the anime it is really full of amazing colors, and also graphic design is exelent^^
Well, from Holic's side, it's an anime from CLAMP so char design is obviously great.
What else i have to say? they are both awesome. Holic is more known than Natsume, so i suggest you: don't lose that gem that NY is! believe me, watch it ;3 they both worth it!^^ read more

Lots of similarities. For one both MCs can see supernatural stuff that keeps hunting them down. Both MCs try to solve supernatural problems and have someone to guide them and both series are episodic.

Main difference is that xXxHolic takes a slightly darker approach and tries to bring some horror factor from time to time.

Both of these shows feature a leading male character who can see demons/spirits. They both hope to get rid of their ability, but start to realize how useful it is once they start using it. They also start to figure out who they can trust with their secret. Overall, the plot is fairly similar.

The protagonist both meet a lot of humans/supernatural beings that would make them realize a lot of lessons in life. They have problems that are quite similar but not all is bad in their new found lifestlyle.

In both series, the main protagonist is able to see spirits and demons, beings that only very few people can see. 

Both series presents stories in an unique way each episode that follows the main protagonist's lives and the situations as he deals with his gift/curse. It is quite well written because the way it presents them with a sort of mystical and serene feeling.

Both series features a lot of interactions between various characters that can be dramatic, comedic, and sometimes emotional. 

Both series are episodic that has a slow pacing which also follows a slice of life feeling. -  Both protagonists have an unusually strong spiritual sense for a human and often times find themselves in perilous situations involving various non-human entities as a result.   
- despite the above neither is very adept at handling these situations.
- Both have a somewhat tragic male protagonist.
- Both protagonist seem to be orphans.

However Both Natsume and watanuki have very different personalities.
Both XXXHolic and Natsume Yuujinchou tend to have very different atmospheres. 
Natsume Yuujinchou has a more light hearted bittersweet atmosphere and tends to have much milder content than XXXHolic. XXXHolic may come off to some as having a more modern gothic vibe. And can also be very philosophical at times. read more

Drama, comedy, and supernatural.
Episodic anime about the unseen paranormal creatures- Ayakashi and Youkai. 
The main character, Natsume Takashi/Watanuki Kimihiro, is an orphaned teenager who possesses spiritual abilities and is able to see spirits. 
He has a best friend, Tanuma Kaname/Doumeki Shizuka, who lives in a shrine and has an ability to sense spirits, but his abilities are inferior to the MC.

[Differences]
Natsume Yuujinchou leaves a warm fuzzy feeling. It has a lighthearted atmosphere. 
xxxHolic is macabre, creepy and dark. It includes profound and psychological dialogues.

These shows focus on a young man who can see spirits. They each use this curse/gift to help others, and through this, they find what they lacked. Each show is episodic with the overall arc being the development of the main character.

Both series have similar world building and writing despite slightly different tones. Both series center around a male protagonist (Watanuki/Takashi) who are able to see supernatural beings (spirits/youkai) that most other humans are unable to see. The protagonists in both series make a deal with one of these supernatural beings (Yuuko/Madara) who become their master to help protect them and teach them about the spiritual world/youkai. Lastly, both series have episodes that involved the male protagonist interacting with other spirits/youkai while, through these interactions, learn a lesson about both the supernatural world and the human world.

Both shows involve a protagonist who can see mysterious creatures called yokai.  The protagonist in xxxholic works to solve some problems with yokai like that of Natsume.  xxxholic story involves the protagonist working at a shop to rid himself of his ability in which both series show the negative impact seeing these creatures had on the protagonist.  Both MCs of xxxholic and Natsume have friends that help them with some quest involving these yokai.  Overall, if you liked the supernatural elements of Natsume it is likely that will find xxxholic to be a joy to watch.

xxxHOLiC is like Natsume Yuujinchou in an urban setting, both personify psychological problems as youkai. The human MC can see them and is aided by a very powerful and mysterious supernatural friend. Natsume is serious and visually pleasant, while xxxHOLiC has weird shoujo-esque CLAMP character designs. Also it's Boke and Tsukkomi type comedy between the two male MCs is very Japanese and not for everybody.

A boy inherits the power to see yokai and finds it to be more of a curse than a blessing. His parents are dead, forcing him to live an independent life where he must conceal his ability from others. Eventually, he becomes involved with the yokai world to the point where he is a target for yokai, and he relies on his shoulder-riding yokai companion to protect him from the forces of darkness. A mostly episodic series involving yokai relations to the human world.

We have Holic and Bakemonogatari who are both mystery and supernatural genre.
Starting from this, both series can be considered somewhat similar. Here's why:
- both deal with strong supernatural elements who leads people (clients) in asking for help to someone who understand those phenomenons.
- both have a "supernatural expert" (Yuuko for Holic and Oshino Meme for Bakemonogatari) who are very good in what they do, usually always show a calm demeanor but as well are quite enigmatic to read and full of mystery.
- both series have quite particular main characters, who are definitely not "the average type of character" you often find in anime.
- overall both share an intriguing pace that slowly brings more questions
- both stories show some inventive and creative cases and both also have a few cases who tell about stories of creatures from ancient japanese traditions

That's why i think that if you liked one of those, you might like the other as well! Just give it a try ;3 read more

Well, let's see... Mysteries, or the so-called oddities in Bakemonogatari somewhat coincides with the cases that Yuuko solves in xxxHolic. And their way of solving these cases are quite similar too in a way that they derive complicated solutions to get the situarion done.

Both series focus around the main character solving "oddities" or supernatural phenomena that occur with other characters. There are also parallels between the mentors of each main character. Yuuko (xxxHolic) & Oshino (Bakemonogatari) both provide insight as to how Watanuki (xxxHolic) & Araragi (Bakemonogatari) can solve the ailments spotted. Main difference is that in xxxHolic the solving of these oddities is more of price for service to customers, whereas in Bakemonogatari, the service is free of charge and deal with the protagonists close friends. Still both are enjoyable to watch and offer a lot of humor.

Although Bakemonogatari and xxxHolic have completely different plots, both main characters deal with strange abberations. Both Araragi and Watanuki have a sort of teacher that they turn to when help is needed (Meme and Yuko). Also, both animes have interesting dialogue with very interesting characters.

xxxHolic is the only anime that, I've felt, has given me a similar "vibe" as Bakemonogatari while watching. In both animes:
- The protagonist has a link with the supernatural and helps people deal with problems that are supernatural and realistic all at once.
- There's a cool, mysterious mentor.
- There are two "tones" (one whimsical and humorous, the second more serious and cool) and they are well-balanced so that there are both enough humourous moments and enough serious moments (though xxxHolic possibly leans a bit more towards serious than Bake). 
- The supernatural is mixed into the personal struggles of the characters in very interesting ways.
- Finally, the supernatural elements are drawn from Japanese folklore, giving the feel that those anime really could only have been created in Japan, which to me is pretty cool. read more

Both series feature a form of spiritualistic view of the world and people rooted in japanese folklore. Such as characters feelings and problems take form or are caused by an appiriration or spirit. The main characters are faced with theese situations and deal with them by helping the people resolve their problems. or not. Both series also featrure at least one character who is very cryptic and mysterious.

With a touch of supernatural, Bakemonogatari is an anime that feels a lot like the first season of xxxHOLiC. With progression in arcs the comedy, feel, and life lessons are both very similar in both of these anime.

Is also about the supernatural that only few can see. The main character of Mushishi is a traveler that helps people with their problems involving Mushi. They are neither plants nor animals. They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as "Mushi".

Basically, Mushishi is alot like XXXHolic mostly because it's pretty similar in aspects of how the anime is approached in terms of supernatural beings, except it focuses on Mushi, and instead of people coming to Yuuko, it's Yuuko coming to them.

Main character in the both series can see spirits and where one tries to run away from it, other tries to figure out it.The mystery behind these spirit and their resolve to solve it is eventually showed in episodic manner style story.

The important difference here is this,While xxxHOLiC has more comedic stuff,Mushishi has more slice of life element to it.

xxxHolic and Jigoku Shoujo are very similar because both are talking about woman that grants wishes, and in both animes, if u want to grant your wish, u have to pay a price.
Both are horror animes and even have the same atmosphere.

Both hell girl and xxxholic are a horror anime. They both allow wishes to be granted and specify that there always has to be a price....nothing less and nothing more of you wish.

Both of these shows deal with a girl/woman who grants varieties of people wishes. In Jigoku Shoujo, Enma Ai- the Hell girl (Jigoku Shoujo) grants people the wish of vengeance, while in xxxHOLiC, a variety of different wishes are granted, such as a customer wishing to be ridden of their bad habits, or something completely different and supernatural. Both of these shows are very enjoyable, although I loved Jigoku Shoujo more (since it was my first anime). Holic was a delight to watch as well.. both of the series have amazing original soundtracks which I enjoyed a lot. Anyone who loved Holic or Jigoku Shoujo should definitely watch the other. Both of the shows are psychological, mystery and supernatural anime. Jigoku Shoujo is listed as a horror, which Holic isn't, but I actually think Holic had scarier episodes then Jigoku Shoujo.
XXXHOLiC has comedy as a genre, but you will enjoy the mystery, supernatural episodes and horror episodes the best. These are both episodic shows, but Holic doesn't feel episodic. Both of the shows build backstories on the characters, so there's no need to worry of them being completely episodic, although Holic has more of a 'spread-out' backstory while Jigoku Shoujo has the main character development in the last few episodes. Both are VERY enjoyable.. these are 2 of my favorites!

different peoples stories around a central theme each episode and with the appearance of the main characters each episode though in xxHolic it is a larger proportion main charcter. They both have a "darkness in the human heart" theme going. In xxxHolic it's various sins, in Hell Girl it's seeking out revenge at the cost of your soul. xxxHolic has a fair bit of comedy to it that Hell Girl doesn't have .

In the world there are things we can't see but are of great importance. Ghosts, curses, dreams, superstitions and many other unexplained but commonly known phenomena. 

At a general level people don't really believe in them, but sometimes they need to. So if, you are a part of those unbelievers who are in need to learn more about the other side of the world - the unseen and unknown side, you may be more than interested to do it while watching either Ghost Hunt, or xxxHolic. Both series provide much valuable and interesting information (personally, I leart alot just from watching!)

They are both scary when watched at night. I had goosebumps,especially that episodes of 100 tales of horror and the girl with blue dress, just like whenever i watch cases of ghost hunt where they have to deal with different supernatural events. The feel is so the same. Both are REALLY GREAT!

Both anime revolve around businesses that solve people's supernatural problems. While xxxHOLiC is more comical and lighthearted, both series have a creepy atmosphere and some unsettling scenes.

Both revolve around solving supernatural cases, although xxxHolic is more about youkai rather than ghosts and solves the cases via supernatural methods, while Ghost Hunt revolves around spirits and solves cases via scientific equipment and exorcisms.

Both anime include hunting ghosts/spirits.
The aim is to help other people.
In Dubbed both anime have the same voice actors for most of the main characters. (Kazuya = Kimihiro) (Mai = Himawari) (Lin = Doumeki) (Ayako = Yuuko).
Both supernatural.


I personally like the art style better in Ghost Hunt and feel it's a more realistic anime. There's more character development in Ghost Hunt and the characters are more likable.

*They are both horror anime which deal heavily with sprits and spiritual powers.
*The main character (Mai/Watanuki) is a high school student with spiritual powers. 
*They encounter a mysterious person with dark hair and pale skin (Naru/Yuuko) who runs a mysterious business that deals with the supernatural.
*They end up in the mysterious person's debt in some way, and are hired as their assistant to work off the debt.
*Some of the same voice actors (Mai and Himawari are voiced by Cherami Leigh, Naru and Watanuki are voiced by Todd Haberkorn, Ayako and Yuuko are voiced by Colleen Clinkenbeard and Lin and Doumeki are voiced by J. Micheal Tatum).
*In addition to sounding similar, Mai and Himawari are quite similar personality-wise, as are Lin and Doumeki.

DIFFERENCES:
*"Ghost Hunt" follows an arc format, while "xxxHolic" is episodic.
*Mai doesn't discover her powers until a few arcs in, while Watanuki is aware of his from the beginning (and, in fact, they're the very reason he ends up working for Yuuko in the first place).

A shopkeep/master help a boy who is plagued with afflictions because of yokai. In exchange for their help, the boy ends up working for them to pay off their debt. WHile both are enjoyable, Fukigen na Mononokean has a more lighthearted air about it while xxxHolic occasionally is serious. Both are still a great watch though!

When I first read the summary, I thought it was almost exactly the same. A high school boy who is being troubled by yokai finds a mysterious stranger to help him. However, the price is that he has to work for the exorcist until he pays off his debt for being free of the yokai.

They're both about a supernatural shop; one that grands wishes to the customer and one that sells rare animals, but both the shops claim to fulfil the dreams of their customer. In the end both shops are there to teach the customer a wise lesson.

Please read the whole thing so you know where I'm coming from for this.

Petshop of Horrors is only 4 eps, as to where xxxHolic is 24. xxxHolic is only similar in the first few eps I suppose, but even so they seem compatible.

Firstly, they have the same atmosphere in which both are horror based. (xxxHolic might be toned down a bit more than Petshop).

Count D and Yuuko are similar to where they can be serious when it comes to their jobs, but other times they can be a completely different person. This mostly happens when they aren't working.

Both Yuuko and Count D own a particular shop and both are quite spiritual.

Where Count D is infatuated with certain sweets, Yuuko has her love for sake or any sort of alcohol.

During the first few episodes of xxxHolic, Yuuko encountered people who asked her for advice, but their lives took a turn for the worst after aquiring objects from her. (Ex: The rings, the monkey hand). Even when she tells them not to do something or asks them about their bad habits, they lie or do what they're not supposed to. This applies with Count D as well. He gives certain animals to people and tells them the do's and don'ts of them. The people always do what they're not supposed to and end up in dispair at the end. read more

Mononoke and Xxxholic are kindred souls. Thematically both focus on nefarious spirits and their interaction with inherently human flaws and in terms of style the two anime have a very edgy usage of colour that combined with highly original sets help give a truly surreal ambience. In both cases typically Japanese traditions are recreated artistically and the Asian imagery that permeates them is flawlessly is used as medium of communication to tell the story, as much as the dialogue. Mononoke is stranger and genuinely eerie while Xxxholic is perhaps more conventional but both push the envelope in terms of supernatural horror in anime.

Mononoke and xxxHolic are very similar. Both involve encounters with supernatural creatures from Japanese mythology and have the same mysterious atmosphere with unique and expressive art.

Both series deal with the supernatural, and the Apothecary from Mononoke is a similar character to Ichihara Yuuko - both are experts in spirits, apparitions and the like. Both xxxHolic and Mononoke also have quite unique, "trippy" imagery when it comes to portraying encounters with the ghosts.

Both are somthing like "old school japanese anime" that contains spirits and some crazy colture of japan, so if you liked xxxHolic you will probably like Momonoke too.
Both are old made animes and when you see random people in both animes you can see that they doesnt have a face / head

and both of them have master-butler relationships in them ( though the one in xxxHolic isn't nearly as much as in Kuroshitsuji )

When I watched xxxHolic again one years ago,i realized that there are some contens of xxHolic that reminisced about Kuroshitsuji . And these are are descriptions that those animes shared.

1) Protagonists of both anime have supernatural powers that effect everything around themselves.
2) Mysteries and Supernatural theme are concept and center of both anime.
3) Our protagonists of two animes contact and communicate with each anime 's supernatural creatures (demon butler and witch)

Orphan boy solves supernatural mysteries with the help of odd allies. xxxHOLIC is centered around japanese folklore in a 2000s setting and has a more optimistic feeling, while Kuroshitsuji is set in victorian England inspired by Sherlock Holmes and has a darker tone.

Solving problems, offering deals, and dealing with spiritual apparitions. Noragami and xxxHOLiC offer an experience like no other with its supernatural themes.

Both series' main male protagonist are involved with dealing with conflicts that deals with supernatural phenomenons. They take place in a traditional/modern setting with various gags. The supporting characters also play various roles that influences each conflict. There is a good mixture of comedy, drama, and emotional basis that makes both series enjoyable.

Watching Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun really reminded me of my experience watching xxxHOLiC. Like Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun, xxxHOLiC revolves around a normal human getting involved with supernatural mysteries. Both are more focused on comedy than normally expected from this kind of show. I prefer Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun because xxxHOLiC has weird animation, but they are both good and worth a watch.

The protagonist for both of these shows end up under contracts with someone who's linked with the spirit world and end up having to do labour for them..... these shows have very similar beginings and both have a lot of Japanese folklore in them.

They're both comedies with some serious elements and an deeper overarching plot.
The arcs are short spanning from 1-2 episodes.
(The similarities go on and on......I'll stop now...)

Hanako-kun has a few shounen like moments which I thought didn't really fit with the style of the show. On the other hand, Holic limits fighting scenes unless they are absolutely necessary and has more of a "day to day life" vibe. 

The biggest difference between them is probably the art style; Hanako-kun has cute chibi-esque proportions and Holic is basically the polar opposite, with super tall proportions which might take some getting used to (Yuko's outfits are amaaaazing though). Both art styles have their perks, but seeing as Hanako-kun is a 2020 anime and XXXHolic is 2007, Hanako-kun's may seem nicer.

XXXHolic is one of my favourite childhood animes and Hanako-kun is just as enjoyable to watch. If you like one you'll love the other!! read more

xxxHolic is about a wish granting shop that's run by the wise enigmatic Yuuko and her apprentice Watanuki. The client expresses their wish, and they have to give back something of equal value in return. In Death Parade, when two people die at the same time, they're sent to be judged. The two people who just died are forced to play a game that's decided at random (billiards, a video game, darts, etc), and one is sent to Hell, and the other is sent to be reincarnated based on their behaviour and tactics during the game (they are not told that they are dead, and that they are playing for their lives, which changes someone's outlook pretty quickly). Both shows are overall episodic, and can make you question your morals. What would you be willing to do or give up in exchange for your heart's deepest desire?  And what would you do if your life was on the line during a game against a stranger, or a loved one? read more

The same type of protagonists - Neuro and Yuko have a lot of common. They are both supernatural creatures, both are mighty and both deal with different detective stories, which in the end are connected with mystic and supernatural. There are also their apprentices in human world - for Yuko it's Watanuki, for Neuro - Yako. And both Yuko and Neuro give their apprentices knowledge, a place to help people and expierence... for to leave them in future.

Both Chise and Watanuki are plagued by their ability to see spirits/monsters. They both encounter a wise and powerful sorcerer, Elias and Yuuko who teach them magic and how to deal with otherworldly creatures. Chise and Watanuki are exceedingly kind people but lack a sense of self-worth and will give to the point of harming themselves - something they must learn to overcome if they want to understand what it means to love those important to them.

The characters are connected after all, if you wanted to know better about the whole ''CLAMP Universe'' its a good way to start it with xxxHOLIC first. Since the anime will not only explain the storyline of its own but also the other animes (basically a spin off)

Especially the Shunraiki (OVAs) you can definitely see those two connecting.

Both involve a shop ran by a mysterious girl with elegant clothing that grants wishes. It is very episodic in that every tiny arc is tied to a wish granted by the shop. You always find the shop when you need it or have use for it. People often end up regretting going to the shop and exchanging a prized possession in return for a wish. While the shop is there to help people, it usually is more melancholic and ends up not going well for the one that made the wish.

Rei Rei is basically the pulp fiction version of xxxHOLIC. In both episodic shows a powerful female with god-like powers and in skimpy clothing meddles with humans in difficult life situations. Both heroines are shrouded in supernatural mystery, can alter reality, and have supernatural aides. The main difference is that xxxHOLIC is CLAMP-grade psychology and explore character flaws and weaknesses, while Rei Rei is plot-with-soft-porn and solves complicated love polygon dilemmata with simple and robust ecchi methods.

Both shows are upbeat with overly dramatic characters with quick mood swings. 
Both main characters are excellent cooks and both shows have plenty of sake and fancy dishes. 
While xxxHolic is about life lessons with a side focus of food and culture, Food Wars is all about cooking; from ingredient sourcing to history behind the dishes. 
Another great thing about Food Wars is that the fan Wiki has a recipe book written by chefs who watched the show and recreated the dishes for others to try making for themselves.

Both animes have long and slow dialogue. (Slow doesn't mean it's bad). Both draw heavily from ancient Japanese culture and both feel like a fairy tale story.

Although katanagatari looks like a fighting anime (and it is), even when the opponents go to fight, they talk for 4 minutes and the fight only lasts 20 seconds. Dialogue weighs much more than combat.

Like Himeji Wakaba (Pupipo!), Watanuki Kimihiro (xxxHolic) can see things that others can't; spirits. Both are bothered by this ability. That is, until Watanuki stumbles upon a strange house inhabited by Yuuko (a witch), and Wakaba stumbles upon a pink monster she calls "Po-chan." Po-chan protects Wakaba from the spirits she sees, and Yuuko similarily protects Watanuki (but in an abstract and teacher-like fashion). Unlike Watanuki, Wakaba doesn't have the possibility to get rid of her spiritual sight. In this respect, Watanuki is more like Naoya Yuuki (Pupipo!), a boy who would give anything to get rid of his spiritual sight.

-Pupipo! is a cute supernatural anime, in an elementary school-type  setting.
-xxxHolic is a dark supernatural anime, focused on Yuuko's store, and a grown-up environment.
*Both animes are a beautiful watch, and the art style indeed seems to have a resemblance to one another. If you like supernatural animes, you'll like either of these. Enjoy!

Both shows are very disturbing (although in different ways)
Both deal with the supernatural
Both shows have female leads with very similar personalities - who coincidentally are both voiced by Colleen Clinkenbeard in the dubs of each show

However, Mnemosyne is much more...shall we say graphic than xxxHolic (whereas xxxHolic is more comedic), so keep that in mind.

This anime strongly reminds me of xxxHolic's adventures, where the female powerful character resembles a goddess and solves the problems and wishes of others, with limits based on the story's reality. 

Both series portrait strong female protagonists and mystery solving, with a wonderful and powerful storytelling based on myths, religion and gods. They also portrait spirits and supernatural entities.

If you like Holo's character you will most likely like Yuko and vice versa. 
Both shows showcase unique and compelling relationships, great characters, great dialogue, and complex themes. xxxHolic takes a  generally darker tone, is more modern, and more fantastical than Spice and Wolf. Spice and Wolf more obviously positive. Both shows fill a similar place and if you like one, chances are you will like the other. Just keep in mind that both are unique.

This may seem crazy, seeing that xxxHolic is a supernatural show and Kuchu Buranko is about psychological disorders, but if you look beyond their genre they really are rather similar.
Both shows involve the main characters and their sidekicks solving people's problems; both make you look at things from a different perspective; and both have problem solvers who are rather crazy, Irabu in one and Yuuko in another. Effective, but crazy.
Plot-wise, xxxHolic and its sequel are more developed as there are way more episodes, but they're both equally entertaining.

both are episodic, brilliant dramas, with lots of action, tension, horror and twists and turn to each unique story. both have excellently thought out characters and their influence on each arc. shigofumi is more violent and psychological, whilst xxxholic is more comedy based, however both are supernatural and have a dark meaningful insight into the ways of humans.

Both of these shows have a witch, and both of these witches are often referred by Witch of Dimensions (or the likes), are presented by butterflies, talk about granting wishes and receiving payments, and both are voiced by Ohara Sayaka.

They both have different types of spirits, although sometimes xxxHolic gets a little bit darker and psychological than Otome Yokai Zakuro. But both have plenty of humor!

For those of us who are watching Tsubasa Resevior Chronicle due to the appearance of Sakura-chan and many of CLAMPs other characters from works such as X/1999 and Chobits, xxxHolic is going to be something a little different, but as the story progresses, we see the connection between the two storylines. These are two sides of the same story, really, shown from very different points of view that only overlap when necessary, so there is no barrage of repetition. Fans of CCS, old and new, should be able to enjoy this series thoroughly. Though classic characters aren't as prevalent in this series as some would hope, the ideas that CLAMP has always worked with are still very much there. Magic, hope, destiny, and the ability to decide one's own future are all part of what makes this series a great addition to any collection.  read more

it kinda as the same situation of story, the same mix, yumekui merry involves dreams and supernatural stuff, xxxholic also deals with supernatural/magic stuff; it takes you in to a different worlds and situations both animes take you through weird and wonderful events.

Shinigami no Ballad. addpermalink

Both anime feature a supernatural "force" that helps people overcome their struggles.
As opposed to Shinigami no Ballad, xxxHOLiC has more comedy and of course a longer story, but I think that with Shinigami no Ballad only having six episodes, it livens up the subject matter and adds to the mystery. xxxHOLiC does, though, have have similar serious moments as those in Shinigami no Ballad. Overall, if you are a fan of dramatic or supernatural stories with a touch of Japanese spiritualism, you would probably enjoy these series.

Both are supernatural in nature and involve spirits based around asian mythology. Both also have comedy as well as action and adventure. xxxholic is more serious in nature than Inuyasha though,even though it does have some comedic moments. The spirits in xxxholic aren't visible to most people and the series is set in the modern world. Inuyasha is in a fantasy version of Japan's fuedal past where the nature spirits(yokai) are part of everyday life and completely visible to the humans.

Natsume Yuujinchou Shi addpermalink

I'd recommend the whole xxxHolic series. It's also about a boy who can see the supernatural and spirits bother him. Natsume Yujinchou is more focused on interaction with youkai though, while xxxHolic focuses on supernatural cause and effect. xxxHolic also has more action and is a bit darker.

If your looking for an anime with a supernatural setting that have certain individuals with strange powers, then either xxxHolic or Rental Magica maybe what you need. In xxxHolic we have the main Watanuki who can see spirits and in Rental Magica we have Itsuki who has the glam eye that see's the weaknesses in magic. Due to their power, they are forced to join a motley crew who handle the weird when it comes to the supernatural. Both series are a fun watch, and can provide you hours of information on the weird and supernatural of Japanese culture.

Supernatural incidents and creatures exist & the main character can see those creatures in both animes. Characters are more diverse, interesting and funny in xxxHolic. Natsume Yuujinchou is a bit more slowly paced anime.

Anime: Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World

On the surface, xxxHOLiC and Kino's Journey don't look like they would have a lot in common. The characters and circumstances are a bit different, and most of the stories that happen through out each series don't relate to each other at all, but there are some similarities between the two that can be shown through, mainly, the story.

First off, both series are very episodic, meaning that each episode could, potentially, stand alone by itself and still make sense to someone that hasn't really seen earlier episodes. Another thing is that Kino, from Kino's Journey, and Watanuki, from xxxHOLiC, develop their characters through the trials that they're put through and grow stronger as they go on through their travels.

For characters, I can see Doumeki, from xxxHOLiC, being very similar to Kino, from Kino's Journey, in the sense that they both don't have a very wide range of emotions. Doumeki doesn't show as much emotion as Kino does, however, and Kino does have her moments of caring deeply for people she doesn't know, like Watanuki does, but for the most part, Kino and Doumeki are similar.

Really, the thing that made me realize they were similar was their feel. Sure, xxxHOLiC is surrounded by more supernatural things than Kino's Journey, but for the most part, Kino's Journey and xxxHOLiC have similar emotional ties to the audience that make the audience watch more and care for the characters, even some of the minor ones. read more

Both have some magical kind of shop/HQ powered by exotic sources. Both have a male character whose main purpose seems to be cooking for others. Both have powerful female personalities.
