Synopsis

Haruhi Fujioka is a studious girl who has recently enrolled at the prestigious Ouran Academy. One day, while looking for a quiet and peaceful place to study, she stumbles across a seemingly unused music room. Upon entering, Haruhi is welcomed by the members of the well-known Host Club: a club in which attractive boys amuse girls from across the entire school. However, when Tamaki Suou—the founder and president of the club—startles the bright scholarship student, she accidentally breaks an expensive vase.

With repayment looking difficult for Haruhi, the Host Club members come up with the perfect solution to the girl's problem: work for the club and ultimately become a Host herself! Mistaken for a boy by her peers, Haruhi has to entertain various female students while coping with her fellow Hosts' extravagant personalities.

Background

In addition to this anime and the source manga, Ouran Koukou Host Club also received a visual novel adaptation for PlayStation 2 in 2007 and Nintendo DS in 2009. Furthermore, it spawned a live-action TV series and film that were released in Japan in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

The character development in Ouran High School Host Club is simply fantastic. These episodes really allow you to understand the characters and their problems. For instance, Kyouya who appears to be self-centered is actually a multidimensional character. The twins are also interesting as they try to find their identities while at the same time fitting in with their peers.

On the other hand, certain parts of the show are not as interesting. The middle episodes are a little bit dull, and the plot doesn’t actually get interesting until later. Second, most of the characters do not really change throughout the series.

This is the first anime I ever watched so it holds a special place in my heart. It is a comfort show to me for that reason but as I’ve gotten older and have seen many more anime’s that I loved for various reasons besides it being the first one I’ve; going back to it I didn’t find as much enjoyment I agree it was problematic in numerous ways.

I would recommend it to people but would warn them that there’s some interesting to say the least scenes, “jokes”, and terms used. I’m not sure if it’s different in sub and was some sort of weird ...

Ouran Highschool Host Club is one of the most terrible anime I have ever seen. First off, the soundtrack is downright awful. We have upbeat, bland music playing at the most unfitting times. And also, this anime is just trying to shove the "emotions" down your throat. It's like the violin is trying to hunt you down and kill you. Every second of this anime is absolutely cringe-worthy. We have stereotypical characters there for the "love drop." We have the bland, composed guy, the money bags, twins with the characteristics of sandpaper, and some other useless side characters.
