Even by todays standards a very enjoyable show...

There is not much to say about this classic that hasn`t already been said.
The tale of a boy who is thrown into this conflict, that is bigger than
himself, defined a whole genre and changed the anime landscape forever.
For its time the art and animation is simply amazing and the stora is mostly well paced.
Tomino managed to create a for its time extremely realistic show, that managed to portrait the philosophical aspects of war in a way prior shows just didn`t attempt to do.
The beautifully remastered edition in HD should be exprienced by any
anime fan at least once in read more

Here we have an anime that truly revolutionized the mecha genre, in great ways. This show brought about more realistic plots for mecha animes, and made the whole mechs being used by the military much more popular. This is a title that most, if it all, anime fans have at least heard of.

The story is good, nothing to remarkable. The story is your typical good vs evil storyline. Some characters have their own little story lines, like Char and Sayla, or rather Casval and Artesia. Speaking of the characters, they are great. They have their own personalities and don't feel generic or bad. read more

Here it is... Tomino's animated directed love child, which is one of my favorite anime of all time. The very first Gundam series has spawned a revolution of countless spinoffs, sequels, video games and movies.

Surprisingly enough this anime was not popular during its' initial airing and wasn't until later that this became more of cult following. Clearly while watching, the show takes a lot from Space Battleship Yamato by the characters, art, and overall plot development of the story. However, compared to Yamato which focuses on the ship, MSG focuses more on the characters.

Our main hero/pilot called Amuro Ray actually changed the game in regards read more

The original Mobile Suit Gundam - often known as Gundam 0079 to avoid confusion with later installments - is a clearly flawed work. However, it is a highly impressive and progressive work given its age, and we owe a lot of what makes anime great today to its existence.

Of course, being highly influential doesn't excuse its flaws. The most obvious is its terrible animation, which isn't a case of it aging badly - it was made on a shoestring budget, and the animation was very bad even for its time. This is forgivable, as a great story doesn't necessarily need good animation to thrive (although read more

Anime: Aldnoah.Zero
Aldnoah copies so much from Gundam that it may as well be Gundam.

Humanity has been broken up into two factions: one on Earth (and colonies, in Gundam), the other in space (and Mars, in Aldnoah). The half of humanity living in space consider themselves superior to the 'inferior' Earthlings to the extent they think of them as a subspecies. They're basically space Nazis fond of red uniforms.

War starts as a temporary peace gets shattered and a young male / school kid finds himself in the middle of it from the get-go. Through a set of circumstances, the respective leads end  read more

Anime: Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
Code Geass main character ( Lelouch ) and Mobile Suit Gundam main antagonist ( Char Aznable ) are a lot alike, they both fight for getting revenge, they're intelligent and make good strategies, and they have little sisters to fight for.

Anime: Taiyou no Kiba Dagram
Fang of the Sun Dougram has a handful of parallels to the original Mobile Suit Gundam series but in return, the execution and storytelling is tighter, more detailed, and more mature. Not to say Gundam is bad! But if you want a real Gundam for adults? Dougram is it. Classic Ryosuke Takahashi rocks.

Anime: Kikou Senki Dragonar
If you want to see an anime with a striking resemblance to Mobile Suit Gundam's story formula but with good humor and light hearted atmosphere, then give this a try.

Anime: Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu
Both uses military tactics during large fights and combat, both are about 2 sides fighting for their ideologies (kind of...), both are very old anime.

Anime: Soukou Kihei Votoms
Both are works of worship in the real mecha genre (or real robot).
They also have protagonist that are better than the conventional. Amuro Ray as every newtype possesses superior qualities while Chirico shows incredible resistance (and more but I prefer no spoiler)
