SynopsisThe story is set in the 22nd century where space travel, planet colonization and anti-gravity basketball are practically everyday things. Planet Earth has become uninhabitable, and therefore people live in colonies on the surrounding planets. On a school field trip, a mistake causes the protagonist, a young transfer student named Luna, her pet robot, and six of her classmates to be thrown through a gravity storm and crash land on a seemingly uninhabited planet. Without any experience of untamed nature, the motley crew is faced with a challenging struggle to stay alive until rescue comes. If it comes... But is the planet really uninhabited....? |

"However painful it may be, Or however tough don't give up, Live through it... until the end"
Story
Madhouse brings something quite different to an industry filled with cliché filled plots, ecchi or fight scenes as an excuse for a story. In a distant future planets have become unfit for life leading humanity into furthering development for Outer Space life throwing this futuristic story in an era where Space Colonies, Talking robot pets, Light speed traveling, and Anti-Gravity are as common as your friendly corner Starbucks.
But what happens when on a field trip 7 kids (and the unexpected presence of a talking robot... to some) get separated from the world they know and are thrown in a planet which has remained the same distant from the Flow of Time (Dist... Wit... I watch too much Clannad) to our futurey-ish adapted friends it will only get worse as this planet might not be as serene, tranquil, and peaceful as they thought, caught in between working together and death, their adventure on this island might not be a check-in/check-out situation rather the ultimate test of their lives whether they like it or not.
Art
The art is not anything to write home about its simple, though at some points I had to pause to stare at the beautiful serene visuals such as the lakes and sights the lush planet offers other times you'll be staring at badly drawn characters and lazy movements conflicting budget I think so.
That's the thing if I could describe the animation of this show in one word it would definitely be... Bipolar, not kidding some episodes the characters look really good and even well-detailed and then 2 minutes later they don't... and then they do... well you get my point.
Sound
The background music is soothing to the ear in almost every scene you probably ignore it but the soothing melodies blend with the occasional (very rare actually) stunning visuals and of course with the important scenes as well as the silly ones and the somewhat serious ones.
As for Voice acting I have to admit most of them do a stunning job and even make their characters a bit more like-able good examples of this are Luna, Kaoru, Menori, and Shingo ... as for the remaining voices they're not so hot as the rest but overall the most dreaded performance goes to Sharla's VA she sounds un-childlike, really old and her inability to show emotions is clearly seen although she jumps from that to mid-way decent sometimes but this is overshadowed by the bad performance throughout the run of the show.
Moving on the opening of the show its good, calm and the lyrics really click right in with the shows message, as for the Ending its good, both opening and ending are good and serve their purpose altough I don't see anyone wanting the in their library, could be wrong though.
Character
The characters at the beginning don't really make a strong impression half of them whine every 5 seconds while the other half always keep calm and mostly always find a way to help out later on some of the whiny group prove to be useful while others really never shine and always screw up.
Later on some characters start opening up and letting their feelings out or their past while some had messed up lives some of them are just cry-babies so this show is split in a like-able group and then there is the somewhat like-able group.
Enjoyment
I have to say for me to watch a 50+ episode anime without getting bored halfway is rare but UPS manages to keep you wondering and guessing (the subtle mystery element which is present in almost every story) obviously is one of the main driving points of the show as the planet turns as dangerous as it is beautiful.
Blended with beautiful music and a somewhat unique story not to mention the unexpected plot twists you see in anime you can surely expect this one as a good choice for your next watch or the one after that but just make sure you don't miss out on it.
Overall
A true gem unseen as it's lost in all the manure around it some will find it and treasure it many never have the luck of stumbling upon this, it really is unique in many aspects and I cant really say I've watched an anime similar to this one or that even grasps half of the magic this show blows in your face.
And I guess even after reading my ups and downs on this at most you'll add it to your "Plan to Watch" or ignore completely everything I said ... don't! trust me watch this you will probably love it as much as I do. read more

Uninhabited Planet Survive is basically a story set in the future where humans are forced to live in space colonies due to Earth being uninhabitable. It focuses on a group of children and their adventures when their space ship unexpectedly crashes during a school field trip onto an uninhabited planet.
Well, its a story of survival on a remote island after a shipwreck or a plane crash (think a child's version of Cast Away and Lost), but add elements of sci fi into it and you can imagine the basic premise of Uninhabited Planet Survive. Personally I really enjoyed the story of this anime, as it touches on many of the topics of actual survival in the wild if one was to unexpectedly find themselves stranded on a remote island (for example, having to find food, fresh water and shelter), but also had more fantastic themes often involved with science fiction, like monsters and aliens. However, this anime is obviously targeted at a much younger audience as all the characters are of elementary school age and as a result are oftentimes at an elementary school children annoyance level :p. The characters are realistic, although a little bit expected, with the typical rich brat, the classroom president type, the slow witted ox, the nerd, the girl that is always scared, the mysterious emo male, and the peacemaker (whom is the main character of the anime) and her pet robot.
Overall this anime is recommended to those of you who like stories of survival as well as discovery, but dont mind the characters being like your younger siblings. The real strength of the anime lies in its story, as the plot was well paced and you really get a sense of being part of this group, which is a lot of fun especially when they discover new things about the planet. read more

In both anime a bunch of kids end up stranded on an uninhabited planet or a strange island. They have to do their best to survive there while trying to find a way to get back home.
A group of children who were in a trip find themselves alone in a strange world.

Both stories feature a basic "lord of the flies" story of a group of kids finding themselves stranded without adults and needing to find a way to survive their situation and eachother. Ryvius took place on a space ship with a large cast of children trying to survive military attacks over a huge misunderstanding. Uninhaited Planet focuses on a much smaller group of kids that crashed on a wild planet after the ship they were taking their field trip on blows up. It follows their trials and tribulations as they encounter wild monsters, pirates, alien organisms, unexplained phenomena, and even their clashing personalites.
