Let's just say Darker Than Black is much grittier and darker, and there are nothing assumed. It's also more intelligent and you can't find any over used cliche at all. If Witch Hunter Robin was an excellent show for you, then Darker than Black will be a superior show for you.

Very similar art style, and dark atmosphere. Deep psychological and a tad distopic with action. Also have the same director.

Both of these series have a very similar vibe. Both series follow a group of detectives solving crimes generally involving murder. Character interactions and personalities are also very similar.

Though for no real reason, I find that these two shows would appeal to those who prefer to be more on the... serious side of things, Witch Hunter Robin is about has funny as Hellsing (Which isn't saying much.) but it makes up for it in intrigue of the story line.

Both series focus on a group of people within an organizations that perform special tasks; Section 9 is to GitS as STNJ is to WHR. They both contain lots of philosophizing and the stories become very very similar it around half way.

Dark atmosphere, a girl that is "special" fighting against her own kind...hunting her own kind. The dark, silent male as a love interest and a mysterious past. Drama, blood, people dying. Story goes deeper than at first looks, and furher in history...this especially for Blood+

An organization formed, created for the purpose of hunting down dangerous individuals. The main characters belong to this organization as their daily tasks put their very lives in danger. Wizard Barrister has more comedy while Witch Hunter Robin maintains a gloomy mood. Nonetheless, they fulfill their premise. There's also hidden secrets and dark revelations that changes our characters' lives forever.

Wolf's Rain and Witch Hunter Robin are both excellent series in which the story is presented in a dark setting. Characters are both developed and added slowly as you progress through the series. Each contain extensive action scenes and awesome music to go along with it.

While at initial glance neither series seem similar - one having a rather fluffy tone and the other having a dark, Gothic tone, there is the fact both series end up drawing the viewer in with the characters and the mystery, not to mention they start off with a very episodic format and yet end up building up to a major ending which may or may not be unexpected.

both about agencies that work to make the world a better place. both have fairly dense and self pitying main characters; who are orphans; that have mentors that work to make them better people, in spite of their own questionable past.

paranormal powered crime fighter who are judged by not only their ability to complete the jobs they take on but their ages, backgrounds, life choices and other peoples biased judgments of them.

Both have 'Monster of the Week' themes. In Jigoku Shoujo, the main characters either capture the bad guys or the good guys. It all depends on the grudge of the one who pulls the red string.

Each series centers around an orphaned female protagonist, who is learning to develop her supernatural power, while fighting "monsters." Similarly, they both work for a mysterious organization which may or may not have their best intentions in mind. There is more action in Claymore, but overall the pacing of the plot development is similar.

Both have individuals with psychic abilities working for a secret organization and uncovering conspiracies. Also, both shows are filled with an atmosphere of mystery and sometime, betrayal.

Despite being completely different regarding plot, these two shows share the same "super-powered protagonist connected with religious organization fighting the ones of his/her own origin" kind of theme, dark tone and future setting. Both contain references to christianity and Inquisition (a lot more of those in TB) and, to some degree, revolve around the long, mutual history of "normal" humans and those of unnatural abilities/kind (people with special powers like pyrokinesis/telekinesis called "witches" in WHR / vampires in TB) as well as the long-term conflict between them, touching upon the problem of their coexistence.

Dark series that revolve around hunting witches.

Well, if you are looking to watch a story about witches pursued by a huge global organization claiming their powers, pain from not being able to live a normal life, dramatic scenes, and despair imposed by mad scientists and their immoral experimentation, then you are looking in the right place. Here are a couple of anime that reunite science and magic under the same roof which looks futurist. Turn on the first episode now.

These are both episodic fantasy/mystery. However Neuro is more comedic while Witch Hunter Robin has a darker feel.

Both are of the occult theme (Robin uses the Witch as its only occult element, while Mayonaka have a variety of lore and supernatural beings) Both anime uses a darker colour tone to brings out their occult theme, which sets a good cozy mood Both story concepts are about "officials" solving cases related to the occult Both MC are essentially young and "pure", trying to learn the ropes of their working environment Both MC have "powers" that they are learning to work with Both shows are largely episodic with an overarching story (Mayonaka is a relatively new story, and imo, the overarching story is still building up and will be  read more

The main characters in both shows find it hard to fit into society because they are a different species that resembles humans. They both struggle to decide whether they should side with humans or ghouls/witches. In both anime, the question is presented whether humans can coexist with creatures that are more powerful than them. There is also an organization dedicated to hunting witches in Witch Hunter Robin and ghouls in Tokyo Ghoul.

Both are about people with special abilities. Dark atmosphere! Keeps you on the edge of your seat. A lot of plot twists! Not to scary, but not a children's show. I really enjoyed both of these that I am alway rewatching them and seeing things I missed the first time around!

Both are anime theme Noir boogiepop phantom And Witch hunter Robin And Sort of a similar dark atmosphere and mix of the supernatural should definitely enjoy some of the similar elements.

Both shows are gripping, mature thrillers that share a dark and serious tone. WHR has a stronger focus on dark fantasy elements whereas Hero Mask has a more down to Earth approach (although it does have some sci-fi elements too), but overall, if you are looking for a good mystery thriller with supernatural undertones both shows will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

They both have the same vibe and art style. The music and sound in both shows are also pretty similar in my option.

Corrupt organization with agents that need to heed orders or they will be terminated.

If you have seen Boogiepop And others and like me was disappointed, you should see Witch Hunter Robin. It is also a mystery anime within a supernatural framework, but unlike Boogiepop it is actually good.

Witch Hunter Robin and Mars Red share a similar premise: government organizations are fighting fire with fire to deal with witches (in Witch Hunter Robin) and vampires (in Mars Red). The series follow witches and vampires as they protect humans from others like them. The series also have overarching plotline uncovering the secrets behind these government organizations. If you're looking for another anime with a dark atmosphere then might want to consider this recommendation.

Both have individuals with special abilities working together as a team, set in the modern times. Both shows also deal with prejudice of those with special abilities.

Witch Hunter Robin and Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files are series centered on paranormal investigations with episodic and long format mysteries/cases. The series also share a preference for having a dark atmosphere and some action sequences to keep things exciting. Although Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files is related to the Fate franchise, you do not need to be familiar with the other series, but it does help to understand the backstory of the main character. Witch Hunter Robin is an older series so the animation might not hold up for some viewers. That being said, Witch Hunter Robin and Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files should  read more

Are you looking for recommendations for a dark, paranormal detective anime? The Garden of Sinners film series is well known for its non-linear narrative that is not viewer-friendly unless you watch the films in chronological order. Witch Hunter Robin has an episodic format until the main storyline begins. Both anime therefore requires your commitment so that you can fully enjoy them. However, their dark, murder mysteries with some fair amount of action will easily keep your attention.

Witches? - check Secret societies? - check Mysterious artifact that is the key to enormous power? - check Girl on a mission? - check Lots of bullets flying? - check Witch Hunter Robin has a more serious plot than El Cazador de la Bruja, and the Nadie/Ellis combination is more like Thelma & Louise than anything else. If you like stories about witches, secret societies, mysterious artifacts, etc, then you should enjoy both.

Both are mature, episodic series (well "WHR" gets a plot part way through) with deliberate pacing. They are also both realistic (to a degree), have interesting main characters (Robin and Keaton are amazing! Great main characters, although their persoanlites are not that similur), and use suspense conservatively, but effectively. Neither series relie on suspense completely, but when it is used it is usally quite good. Oh and they both suffer from incredbly poor writing in the begining which damages the otherise exellence of the series. (Oh and "]WHR" has a terrible ending). Ok so they might not be that much alike, but I do think  read more

These two series give off a similar feeling. Like... the main characters are trying to help in the best way they know how sometimes it is enough and other times it is not.WHR is more focused on witchcraft while VKG is more focused on Vampires... either way they are battling against the human race and their own kind. Iif you like one you should like the other.

Although they don't share the similar atmosphere, both Witch Hunter Robin and Gatchaman Crowds involves an organization of individuals with special abilities. These individuals are gifted with power that enables them to engage in combat and hunt down others whom uses their power for malicious deeds. Witch Hunter Robin has a more gloomier atmosphere but both series has a taste of super power. Among other factors, there's a little sense of mystery involving the origins of both series' settings, characters, and concepts.

I guess the story outline would be not enough for claiming some special similarity, as it is already sort of a cliche (secret organization vs supernatural enemies fighting in a way that society doesn't realize...). Lead characters have not much in common (melancholic insecurity / aggressive overconfidence) but for me what makes those movies alike are pictures. Maybe Robin is not so 3D, and generally lower quality (TV-series against the movie), but there's some visual mood much in share. Low saturation and contrast for colours and dark settings and probably some more subtle factors can provide same feeling for both shows that personally I  read more

Both have mysterious atmosphere and characters with special abilities, both have one issue for an episode. Both have magic and paranormal stuff. Amon is like Yakumo. If you liked Witch Hunter Robin, you will like Shinrei Tantei Yakumo.

The similarities are pretty strong. The settings are very similar, a near future with lots of slums and crime. The serious feel of everything was very similar as well. Both series have people with special abilities and a young girl caught up at the center of it all. Conspiracies and corruption abound in both as well. I personally found Speed Grapher to be the much better of the two, with its much stronger emphasis on corruption and the carnal desires of mankind. If you liked Witch Hunter Robin I highly recommend Speed Grapher. However, if you liked Speed Grapher I don't feel that Witch Hunter  read more

Aside from the animation, the level of eerieness (which isn't saying much) and pacing are pretty much the same~ That and the fact that their dark plots had potential but could have been better if it wasn't executed in such a toned down way...but that's to be expected since it is a PG rated show~ If these were to have reboots, I'm sure the improvement in animation would really contribute to their overall feel
