Similar themes of natue taking over, although for different causes and reasons. The main characters in both films also strike a few similarities, one being that they suddenly find themselves involved in a situation seemingly beyond their control and that they both have someone very close to them, someone they would go to the ends of the earth for.
Both stories are set in a post-apocalyptic world and deal with nature, mystery and "tree-people".
King of thorns and Origin (Gin'iro no Kami no Agito) both have the theme of saving a doomed world. These two anime films contain antagonist elements of "nature" in which the protagonist are in conflict with.

Equally confusing and overdone ending. Just before the ending you really start to admire the movie/series but once the ending comes, it turned out you didn't knew anything and still don't know anything.
And also the vision of the end of world.
