Synopsis

The inhabitants of a harsh desert planet called Cerra have perfected a system of imprisonment without walls. Called "Lamination", this system of virtual slavery ensures that those convicted of serious crimes remain productive, if not free, members of society. Prisoners are hence called LaMBs.

The system has made both jails and death penalty unnecessary in a world where human ingenuity, creativity and labor continue to be precious commodities that cannot be replaced by robots or any form of "artifial" intelligence. This system has sparked off philosophical debate among the citizens of Cerra on whether lamination is ethical.

The story of LaMB centres around the life of a protagonist who can barely speak nor make her own decisions – she being one of the many felons sealed in a ‘laminated’ suit.

It was mentioned in the "Making of LaMB" that flash allows more flexibility and new style of animation. I don't know if their decision to make it using flash was for artistic purposes or the production team was only given a low budget.

Given that the anime has a really good storyline, the show/movie may have made more fans if the production team created it using traditional animation.
