Marin and her sister Urin live in the sea. One day they find a ring fallen into the sea. They get out of the sea and meet a girl Kanon, the owner of the ring. Kanon tells them she doesn't want the ring anymore because it was given by her boyfriend whom she just broke up with, and she throws it into the forest. Marin thinks Kanon is still in love with him and looks for the ring with her sister. But Urin accidentally breaks a seal near a shrine...

Man's relationship with the sea has always been one of awe and fear. Awe from its immensity and depth; fear from its power. Because we cannot explore it easily its mysteries that captivated our ancestors still resonate even today despite our technological advancements and control of our surface environment. Umi Monogatari ~Anata ga Itekureta Koto~ tells the tale of two worlds fated to be apart but still must coexist as part of the same planet.

Umi Monogatari's story is part magical adventure and part romance. Marin and Urin are mermaid sisters from the sea world. One day they discover a read more

Welcome back, Friends, to magical girl month. We've looked at Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha and Magic Knight Rayearth. This week we're going to look at a magical girl series based on a pachinko game. This is Umi Monogatari: Anata ga Ite Kureta Koto, a series written by Tsukiji Toshihiko and brought to us by Zexcs, the same studio that brought us Cheesesteak Suppository also called Aku no Hana, but I don't like to dignify that pile of excrement with the literary reference. Let's take a look at Umi Monogatari and hope that it's better than the one other work of theirs I've reviewed.

This Anime starts out very slow paced and peaceful, but that changes as the story developes

Story: The story is pretty simple and reminds of Kannazuki no Miko. It's not very unique, but surely something for people who like slow paced anime. But to be objective, the story is pretty stereotyped. It was still enjoyable though. The fanservice was bad placed too, but there were some surprising moments for me at least.

Art: It was fine, nothing special, nothing bad. The quality design had no real strong or weak points, very balanced and it also didn't increase or decrease.
It was likable though, it may had no strong read more

Umi Monogatari is an interesting anime, at times it seems like a harmless "slice of life" show, with vibrant characters and pretty nice visuals. Although once the story actually starts to show its true colours, you realize the show is not as light hearted as it seems and in 12 episodes, it feels as if the same themes get used over and over and over again.

The plot is very simple, along time ago a dark entity / witch (whos name is Sedna) was sealed in the sea as well as on land, One of the characters accidently releases the seal and the 2 main characters read more

Anime: Nagi no Asukara
An obvious similarity - sea themes! People from the sea interacting with people of the land, plus their interpersonal relationships.

Anime: Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch
Beautiful girls who come from the sea... while Mermaid Melody is about mermaids, singing and shoujo-romance, Umi Monogatari isn't quite so child-orientated and is rather relaxed in its pacing etc.

Anime: Uta Kata
Both are at first very simple, but become darker at the end.
And in the two there is a friends relationship on summer.

Anime: Aria The Animation
Both depicts stories of sea maidens, both have a slow development and a serene ambient mood.

Anime: Ano Natsu de Matteru
Drama between friends and similar "summery" feel!

Anime: Tayutama: Kiss on My Deity
Jealousy, fighting bad things, basically the same plot set-up.
