These animes are similar in that they both mention signing a contract with the devil (Millenium earl in d-gray man) to turn into a demon

They both have quite similar atmosphere, similar clothes style, feels like the same era. And they both concentrate on mysterious Demon sword.

Elemental Gelade has human weapons called "Edel Raids", which is really similar to the Demon Swords in Seiken no Blacksmith. Both main characters have the same point of views about their special weapons :)

Both have strong willed female characters and alloof male characters, not wanting to have a part in the matters until they are forced to. Elements and swords are also involved, not to mention action scenes.

Both of these anime are placed in more medieval times. They're main characters both have strong weak points, but can make up for it in some sort of way. They both seem to have a lot of action in them as well.

I personally believe that both of the series have good sword fights, though in truth that is subjectional to ones opinion. To me, the sword fights show a wide range of movement, which I also find to be realistic.
