Mononoke is the continuation of the third part of Ayakashi, and in my opinion, the most interesting part of it, filled with mysteries and enexpected spins of the main plot. So if you once liked Ayakashi and its peculiar style, then you'll definetly like Mononoke for its unconventional and somehow experimental approach towards the design of an anime.
Both are based on several classic japanese horror stories, with each story having different art styles.

they have the same style of animation...i can't help but noticed from the first scene.. the mysterious male lead (ayakashi's neko/cat story) with mind-boggling events/things happening... only difference is that gankutsuou is a full-blown story..whereas ayakashi is a collection of stories..i think i can say gankutsuou is also a little of the horror genre
Ayakashi and Shigurui are both cruel animes. However Ayakashi is about legends and Shigurui is about humans not about ghosts. Both animes include Samurai way of life and their women who suffer a lot.
Both Ghost Hunt and Ayakashi deals with supernatural events and ghosts. Ayakashi is an anime based on Japanese folklores and legends about ghosts and demons and Ghost Hunt is more of a detective anime. Nevertheless, fans of Ghost Hunt will surely enjoy Ayakashi because of the interesting and at time horrific stories.
Both anime deals with the supernatural world and both anime carries a somber/dark mood. Ayakashi deals more with Japanese old folklores, while Vampire Princess Miyu revolves more around the world of vampires/demons in the modern world. These two anime contain multiple stories that involved the live of humans and monsters/demons--demonstrating that not every story has a "happy-ending" and that for the most part many stories ended in tragedy.
