Both are based on several classic japanese stories, with each story having different art styles.
They're all epic horror stories based on novel books. Both of them use different styles of animation
Both series are anthologies composed of different stories handled by different creators. Aside from the similarities in structure, both take a very classical and characteristically Japanese approach to storytelling, with Aoi Bungaku basing all of its stories in well-known Japanese literary masterpieces and Ayakashi's stories dealing with Japanese mythology, folklore, superstitions, and ghost stories.
They both compose of different stories and styles.

Both features ancient Japanese ghost stories
Ayakashi is more like literature while Hundred Stories are collection of ghost stories rumored in the Edo period.
Both stories features the tragic ends of malicious people who harm others for their own selfish gains. However, unlike many other moral-of-the-story horror tales, these two does show the various moral dilemmas of any situation. There is sometimes no true good or evil.
Besides that, they both share distinctive art. In Ayakashi, each story has its own art style to fit the tale. In Hundred Stories, it tends to be surreal, with stark colour ontrasts. All in all, it's not your basic run-of-the-mill Anime art.

Stories are told in that same calm manner, like typical Japanese ghost storytellers do. There is little dramatics in the narration which is good, since it lets the anticipation build up slowly and the mind gets to run on its own.
That's how I like my ghost stories.
However, in Ayakashi, the stunning visuals speak for themselves. In Kaidan Restaurant, your imagination is merely aided along by the friendly subtle scenes which comes across as creepy rather than full-blown scary.

Very similar mystic atmosphere . Interesting and breath taking scenes . Great plot and various tragical stories are combined in Ayakashi. The very anime is a combination of 3 different chapters , and i`m sure that if you are a fan of Mononoke`s storyline , Ayakashi will be great choice for you !

The rather dark feeling is interesting and feels very similar. The only thing you might have problems with is the artwork. Other then that, the story line is a lot like it.

Both animes are about Ayakashi or Yōkai in the world of humans. They both highlight the incompatibly of humans and Yōkai with each other. Natsume is somewhat episodic while Ayakashi is collection of three classic Japanese horror stories. If you like the Book of Friends and horror anime you will love Ayakashi.

Demons, helping people get rid of them.

Ayakashi and Shigurui are both cruel animes. However Ayakashi is about legends and Shigurui is about humans not about ghosts. Both animes include Samurai way of life and their women who suffer a lot.

Both Ghost Hunt and Ayakashi deals with supernatural events and ghosts. Ayakashi is an anime based on Japanese folklores and legends about ghosts and demons and Ghost Hunt is more of a detective anime. Nevertheless, fans of Ghost Hunt will surely enjoy Ayakashi because of the interesting and at time horrific stories.

Both adapt classic japanese stories: Uta Koi is an interpretation of love poems and Ayakashi adapts three horror stories.

they have the same style of animation...i can't help but noticed from the first scene.. the mysterious male lead (ayakashi's neko/cat story) with mind-boggling events/things happening... only difference is that gankutsuou is a full-blown story..whereas ayakashi is a collection of stories..i think i can say gankutsuou is also a little of the horror genre

Both anime deals with the supernatural world and both anime carries a somber/dark mood. Ayakashi deals more with Japanese old folklores, while Vampire Princess Miyu revolves more around the world of vampires/demons in the modern world. These two anime contain multiple stories that involved the live of humans and monsters/demons--demonstrating that not every story has a "happy-ending" and that for the most part many stories ended in tragedy.

Although Wasurenagumo is not a horror, but is about Japanese legends too. And I think you might like it as much as Ayakashi: JCH
