Plot wise (esp sci-fi elements), these two shows are somewhat similar: both shows start with main character wakes up in a vastly different and dangerous environment than the place they used to live. Through the course, they gradually adapts to it and learns the skills to live. Later, some organizations revealed that both main characters have the special ability that they need for mankind to survive the future. In the end, those shady organizations got out of control and destroyed by their own creation, the main characters end up living in the planet they adapt to. Also both shows mainly have two parts, either a different focus in Blue Gender or a time skip in Jyu-Oh-Sei, where the two parts are quite different from the previous part.
Blue Gender is geared towards male viewer with strong mecha and military element, while Jyu-Oh-Sei is more towards female viewer with some dramas and more appealing character design. Both shows also touch upon the subject of birth and life.
Both are about a boy forced into an unfamiliar world and must adapt to survive. Yuji is awakened in a future Earth ruled by giant bugs, while Thor is stranded on a planet ruled by carnivorous plants.
Both are post-apocalyptic, both have messages regarding to our Mother Earth, and both have extremely "hippy" endings.
Blue is MUCH more adult oriented, and Jyu has an adventure feel about it.
Both main characters are introduced to a different world where they have to fight to live. They eventually adapt to the world and learn what's necessary to survive. Later, the main character is found to have a gene that is the link to mankind's surivival.

Both shows revolve around mecha fighting bug like monsters that are invading earth. Muv-Luv focuses less on the bug killing and more on the politics and relationships behind the mecha that nations make to protect themselves from the bugs. Blue Gender is pretty much all bug killing goer with some romance tossed in. Both are worth watching if your into mecha battles and alien invasions.
- Earth under attack by giant insect like creatures
- Mechs are the weapons of choice
- Characters faced with grim realities
muv luv gives me that feeling that its the prequel to blue gender so if you like one you will like the other
they both share how they fight to keep alive, Blue Gender is more about what happens to incecs after mutation and Total Eclipse is from when they invated earth. They are both worth watching

Both animes begin with a human from the past that has been put into a cryogenic capsule and awakens into a distant post-apocalyptic future. Both main characters have a destiny to help the present world.Origin is more about the conflict between an failed experiment that made the nature go out of control and technology, whereas in Blue Gender the conflict is not internal, but external, the humans fighting against aliens.
I found the plots very similar, almost as if Origins was a retelling of Blue Gender though there are enough differences to make both worth watching. I enjoyed one as much as the other.
Both anime have a main character that is unfrozen in the distant future to find the world as they know it has ended.

If you like post-apocalyptic anime like Blue Gender, then Eva's for you.
These are both post apocalyptic mecha shows that focus on the darker side of human nature and also have there fair share of blood in them.
the main difference come in the form of the enemys as they are giant bugs in blue gender and "angels" in evangelion.
personally i'd say BG is slighty better but only because shinji is a douche, anyway you should check both of these out because THEY ARE AWESOME!

I can't quite put my finger on why Blue Gender reminds me of Gantz. It may be the characters, the style, the adult-orientedness, the sci-fi, the constant fighting, etc... In general, both anime "feel" the same.
Warning about Gantz though...has nudity and sex in it...I just skipped through the parts though and it was fine.
Blue Gender has sex, violence and good old fashion monster bashing, it differs from Gantz on a Gaming level and being death but overall, I promise that if you like Gantz you'll like this anime, hands down. Also, if you see a reconmendation saying that this series here >>> Zaion: I Wish You Were Here <<< is similar to Blue Gender, thats just bull crap because personally, as a man who loves blood, sex, and monster bashing anime, Zaion: I Wish You Were Here is nothing like Blue gender. Im sure anyone who watches or ever seen this anime hasen't seen it just for the romanace. Honestly now. If you want romance? go watch Sailor Moon or Host Club.

Same voice actress, similar feelings and mood.
Both about a strong blonde haired female lead (coincidentally with the same Japanese voice actress) who goes around a world and fights off a type of monster. Blue Gender is pretty muchi the Science Fiction version of Claymore.

Blue Gender and Chrome Shelled Regios are set in an apocalyptic event in which the planet has been dominated and the humans are set as food. Also the main characters in both anime refuse to fight in the beginning but later find a resolve to fight for what they believe is worth protecting.
Only difference is that Blue Gender has Mechs and tends to be more serious
While Chrome Shelled Regios uses Kei enhanced weapons and has some light comedy to balance out the seriousness but both are still amazingly awesome shows
Killing giant bugs with military hardware.

Both are sci fi animes and both have an interesting storyline! (: I watched Strain first and then Blue Gender and I really loved both of them. both also involve characters that die off easily at the beginning of the series.

The main leads are unexpectedly thrusted into a predicament that radically alters their being and sense of self throughout the story.
In both cases, the lead had a COMPLETELY different lifestyle that, while not perfect, was something they were, near-constantly, desiring during the story.
However... the lead(s) go through a self-journey to realize the changes and to make peace with them. Resulting in remarkable and inspiring developments.
Both are also bloody, gory, violent, and look and sound PHENOMENAL.
KnK 4 is part of a chain of movies that, while entertaining by itself, should be watched in order to get maximum comprehension. The aspects and plotline however, greatly correspond to Blue Gender's main character's journey.
Blue Gender, in addition to many more themes, deals with the hero's struggles to adapt, and comprehend with whats going on. His disposition virtually changes, but, like KnK 4, his primary existence remains...

People living on the moon because the Earth has become uninhabitable and a relationship between a boy from Earth and a girl from the moon. The moon is ruled by a totalitarian government that restricts information and individual freedom.

Both are helmed by legendary director/creator Ryousuke Takahashi, both have exquisite animation and feature mecha.
The Mecha genre is treated more of a way to connect into the soldiers minds directly, than being used in awesome cool fight scenes(though that happens too!)
FLAG is significantly realistic in setting, tactics used, and storytelling.
Blue Gender has sc-fi aspects that blend into it's story. It also contains explicit content.

Both deal with a disease that threatens mankind and the repercussions to those who are frozen waiting for a cure.
|
|
|
Both have huge insects and plenty of action
|
|
|
Machines used to kill biolological bastards, of to disinfect bugs, both rely on technology that sometimes turns the table in either their favor or opposite, with a darkside story that comes only with one resolve.

Action, violence, drama, ecchi, monsters...

Both are made for an adult-audience.
Both are about the human condition.

Apocalyptic, bugs/alien, mecha, survival. Very similar anime.
|
|
|
Both series involve a small group traveling a great distance in order to get to a specific point on the globe inconveniently far from where they started while fighting an alien species that has dominated humanity. This changes halfway through Blue Gender as the focus shifts a bit, but the alien presence on Earth is still unwelcome. Blue Gender is the darker of the two series, but if you enjoyed the traveling a great distance while fighting things that want to kill you aspect, you should consider giving the other one a shot.

another end of the world type anime

Similar feeling, the earth have been infected with monsters in Blue Gender and a virus in Zaion which turn the user into a monster. The two main characters in both anime have a similar relationship too as they are mostly treated as tool.
I think Zaion have better romance but Blue Gender is overall better because the serie is longer and have more solid content.

Blue Gender and Ergo Proxy are set in futuristic dystopias, and follow the journey of two key characters, a no-nonsense woman and a man trying to grasp his identity. We see these characters grow and change as they form a relationship with one another, and it is this development that pushes the stories forward. Both series contain a political element and address issues such as social class and morality, offering the audience much food for thought. Definitely two titles for the scifi fan.

Both animes are about earth with very few humans on it.
|
|
|
I am not sure how the others think, but what come up with my mind is these two animes are quite similar in background. Both stories are about the destroying Earth, only a few people survive and most of them are living outsider Earth. The Earth is not suitable for human living but is recovering. The reason behind the dying world are both due to human. The main characters in two animes are both having baby at the end of the story.

|
Both are about humans vs bugs. Starship troopers (aka. Uchu no Senshi) is about the earth being attacked by an unknown bug life form located somewhere out in the vast space galaxy. Blue Gender is about the earth being over run by over sized killer bugs and humanity fighting to maintain whats left of their own existence from being wiped out.

|
Post-apocalyptic animes where humanity is fighting for their survival. Both anime have their own individuality and similarities between plots and characters. If you want action, mecha, and romance; then these two will fulfill your needs.

If you liked the realistic depictions of soldiers without superpowers and post apocalyptic scenario of Blue Gender, then Gundam: 08th MS Team is a must watch. An interesting conflict with many types of realistic weapons and mecha with a distinguishable romance story makes 08th MS Team a good watch.
|
|
|
Both have the same monsters and eggs in a nest.. and they analize them on a computer same in both animes
|
|
|
Aliens, drama, mecha. If you enjoyed the Godzilla plot of Patlabor 3, then you must check out Blue Gender.
|
|
|
Both anime series are set in space and have excellent character development. The romance, the conflicts and the realistic depictions of what a future space base would look like makes Blue Gender an interesting watch.
|

|
In both series, the Earth has been laid to waste by horrific bug-like monster aliens that tend to kill lots of people and be very hard to kill. Only a few people (usually our mains) have any chance at all of beating them. One of the goals of both series is to take back the Earth from the invasion.
