Music, music, music. Both series have great music scores to keep you entertained, not to mention the underlining drama that eats away at each character. Even if you're not a fan of the drama, you'll probably end up enjoying the music in some sense~
Both are good music series. Competition of two bands, romance, drama, and of course good music. Must see both
Nana feels like the love-child of Beck and Honey & Clover. If you liked Nana, I'd suggest Beck if you liked the struggling band/musical aspects of Nana. And vice versa. =)
All about the music baby.
Nana and Beck tell us about the musical industry and everything concerning the creative process. We'll meet naive novices and tycoons of record labels, rookies and stars. Although in Nana the story is focused on love and relationships, it's also about the life of musicians, including live shows in small clubs, the recording process, promotion and music videos. If you want to know more about the musical industry you'll enjoy watching these series.
Both series are done by Mad House, both have their good share of drama and music, overall the atmosphere is similar.
Similar characters, similar struggle of a new band trying to show this world their talent.
Prominently-themed in Indie rock music and relationship experiences through growing up.
Music and life.
Both are great anime about a group of friends trying to make a rock band.
Slice of life, drama, and romance are the predominant elements of both series (Nana is more girl-oriented, though).
There is also the competition between 2 rival bands.
We see the characters growing up during the series, and struggling to make their dreams come true.
Also, both anime are by Mad House, and Takumi and Ryusuke are similar.
Both anime have a theme of music, BECK is more of a music fans anime while NANA is more centered toward a shoujo audience . never the less both anime are amoung my favourite. Although I feel BECK is my favourite anime of all time NANA is the closest anime you will get related to rock music. (next to BECK that is)
Both NANA & Beck are focused on music. NANA has female main characters and the serie centers around them. Also, they're already in their twenties. Beck on the other hand has young boys as main characters. Their both great to watch and have their own amount of music and drama.
Both are music series.about competition of two bands with romance and drama, a slice of life feel at times and good comedy and good music.
both are portraying a struggling rock band for their path to popularity, their love problems, friendship... although, nana is a more emotional, and from a girls point of view, while in beck, except their music (and all around it), we do not get to know their other side: family. both have some great music, that will stuck to your mind hours and days later. enjoy!
Rock and Punk go hand by hand.
For boys - Beck. For girls - Nana.
There both are about trying to make it big in a band and falling in love.
Revolving around music and in a way relationships. Beck is more of an anime I'd recommend if you enjoy having your adrenline pumping. Captivating, slow at times but worth every minute of every episode. Catchy music.
Nana, more if you want to have your heart thumping, rising, tears in your eyes. Yet still some essences of adreanline. Creative characters, good story lines. Overall both series are MUST-WATCH for all music fans be they pop music, indie, rock, heavy metal, punk.
Both are well-received anime centered around drama and music. Both have fantastic soundtracks.
Wow, both of these series reminds me of one and the other in a variety of ways.
Both series features music as a prominent theme. They have a band who are trying to make a name of themselves in the music industry. But more than that, there is a complex friendship between the two main characters in both series.
Beck and Nana are like brothers and sisters imo. They have comedy, romance, drama, and is presented in a mature way that is more than the typical shoujo/high school romances.
Both series also has that slice of life feeling detailing some of the events of the characters' every day lives whether involving their careers or their love lives.
If you like Beck you might just enjoy Nana. They both have rock bands and awesome music and are pretty realistic. The only difference is Beck is light, comedic and shounen. Nana makes you cry its Shoujo.

they are similar in terms of music
School life and music of a band.
Both animes have some similar histories about music, a lot of musical references and of course a little band wanting to get bigger. There some other references but if i say it could be a spoiler so, watch it and make your conclusion. ^^
Both about soon-to-be musicians, Beck is a more serious take on it, while k-on is more comical about it.
an anime about a band. what can be better?
Both of these series focus around a band struggling to 'make it big'. BECK is the more mature of the two animes, while K-ON has all the comedy.
Well apart from that K-on is about a club of girls playing, this time it's about a local band in Tokyo trying to become successful while working through their hardships of making it to fame while having some twists in romance and suspense in the plot itself.
Beck is K-On if you get rid of the moe and add guys, its more serious, but its damn good
Both anime have a great music, and the main characters are both fast learner.
The only diference is the "modus vivendi" os the caracthers, but if you like the artistic life and enjoy music.
Both animes obviously have to do something with musicians, however, while K-ON is concentrated more on moe style designs and a more comedic tone, Beck has more of a realistic approach concerning art and is all the more serious with it's story line.
If you watched one, you might or might not like the other. Both are inspiring to the musician.

The similar part is that both anime are for high school students who play music.
The difference is that Sakamichi no Apollon is more about the love stories of the characters and is full of cliches, while Beck is more about music and characters' development as persons through music.
Similar premise, just replace Jazz music with Rock music as the main music focus. Characters are all in high school as well in both, however Beck takes place in present day.
Musical and school story. Both.
Tbh, I found these two series quite alike in terms of their pace and feeling when watching them.
Both Beck and Sakamichi no Apollon (also known as Kids on the Slope) explores the theme of music and how the main characters of the series embraces them.
Both series' artwork is naturalistic and has realism that reflects the older ages compared to the more modern 2000's style.
Both series has a slice of life theme in it that features comedy, drama, and romance.
Both series are a breath of fresh air so give it a shot.
It's not only about music. BECK - ROCK, Sakamichi - JAZZ.
But also it's slice of life about musicians lifes. About problems of everyone of us, because everyone've got plenty of them. It's about how hard is love, friendship and keeping your existence in society.
Both of these titles are set in the present and feature high school kids as the main characters. There is a great deal of high school drama, but at the end of the day the characters best relate through music. Beck is much more lighthearted and funny; kids on the slope tries to be more thoughtful. Both are excellent animes.
Both series are about MUSIC. It`s not just a good OST: music is the heart of anime.
In my opinion, there are only two kinds of animes. Drama and Action.
Beck and Sakamichi share a feeling through the whole series. The action is slow and you can't expect a bloody gunfight every episode. The characters will always be presented as very simple, but the more you dive into the understanding of the characters meaning in the series, you will obtain that everyone has a light and a dark side. The character you thought were a ugly scumbag, will maybe turn out to be the nicest character in anime history! Judge the book by the content, not the cover.
Also, both animes has a love to music. Beck is for all the rock/pop-lovers, and Sakamichi is for 60's jazz. Both animes will create a big view of both genres, and you will understand why the music-culture is very important. If you don't like this kind of music, you should consider watching either Beck or Sakamichi.
Last but not least, both animes aren't just about music. Actual themes is also friendship, love, hard work and accomplishing goals and following dreams!

Both shows are centered around music. Drama isn't exactly similar in the two of them, but you'll probably end up enjoying the relationships developed between the characters. Koyuki could maybe be representative of Chiaki, as they're both struggling for a career in music.
Music + Anime you say? Then you definitely must watch these XD
Nodame Cantabile is more of comedy based - so if you feel that the music presentations in it weren't enough, then watch this anime called Beck - a band that will rock your world with awesome music displays.
their both revolve around music..
also a music anime series.
Both are GREAT anime about VERY NICE music, that's it :)
Enjoy, musicians and music fans =D
Both anime reveal the journey and struggles of pursuing music.
Music is a strong influence in both Nodame Cantabile and Beck. In these two series, it plays a prominent role in shaping the main characters' lives and their futures. They share their understanding of music and their passion for it with other characters while at the same time learning about it themselves.
Both series has a similar feeling that reflects the mood of the series as being more slice of life revolving around the main characters.
But more than that, their appreciation of music leads the characters to meet new people and learn more about the world and even more about themselves.
Both series also has comedy, drama, and romance.

Both are slice of life shows dealing with music. The main characters are kind of similar and they are also members of bands. There is more drama and romance in BECK, while D. M. C. has more comedy.
This anime is also about music, so if thats what you want, then see it, but besides the fact that they ar both about musicians, these anime havent got anything else in common.
DMC is about music? Beck is too!!!!
All who like electornic gutars and Rock must see it!!!
While both are very obviously music orientated, I wouldn't go as far as to say they are similar anime (Beck is slice of life/comedy, while DMC is more ironic). However I will strongly recommend you following up on DMC after watching Beck.
If you are into music and have a band, both this series is for you.Beck is more onto drama and more serious and DMC is comedy but im sure you will enjoy watching this both.
for the people who are fond of playing instruments and had their own band to pursue and reach their goal in music industry
Beck is a story of high school kids trying to make it in a world of rock. They have to deal with teenage drama, but are able to do so without being overly serious. Detroit Metal City takes it to the next level and beyond. It is completely over the top, too funny; if you aren't on the floor laughing something is seriously wrong with you. Definitely not for kids this anime will make you want to violate Tokyo Tower...

It seems to me that if a person liked the story of Kaikan Phrase, they'd like Beck too. They're both stories about mostly strangers coming together and working towards their dreams of being a famous rock band. They were very similiar but Beck was done better, I think.
Music from Λucifer (Lucifer). The first half of the anime is devoted to how the group forms and the many hardships they face in becoming a band. The second half of the anime picks up on the manga, following the romance of Aine and Sakuya. Good music.
In both anime amateur rock bands try to make it big in music industry, and plots mainly focus on the struggles of those who are involved.
Both are abt bands who dream of making it to the big time. Great musicand drama are included

They have the same feel, animation, and general story line. While Beck seems to appeal more to the Male audience, Paradise Kiss seems to be more towards the Female aspect
Similar animation styles thanks to madhouse doing both of them. Similar plots.
They have a very similar direction, dialogues, & general feeling to them (in fact they're both produced by Mad House, and they have the same director, Osamu Kobayashi).
In both the protagonist wants to change his/her life, grow up, and mature.
Beck focuses on music and is male-oriented, while ParaKiss is a Josei series and revolves around fashion (but music is also present, thanks to Arashi).
Beck and Paradise Kiss have the same kinda feel. They are made by the same producers and kinda have the same drawing style. Also, both series are about fame. Beck is more about music, Paradise Kiss is about fashion. They are both really great and enjoyable. Still though, Paradise Kiss is josei (shojo) while Beck is more seinen/shonen.

Bakuman is the Beck of manga. Similar slice of life feel with similar progression. The main character both were once going through life aimlessly.
As the shounen demographic has evolved, new genres and styles have been introduced that bring variety to what was usually sci-fi or fantasy. Two examples of this are Bakuman and Beck, which tell stories of a characters pursuing their dreams in a slice-of-life setting that is capable of inspiring many, even outside their target audience. They both add realism to shounen and make it easier to relate.

Both Music themed shows. Both have the lead with amazing talent. Both have the "Ultimate Band" they look up to and become friends with over time. VERY similar.
Both are music titles with the classic drama, comedy and romance. On Beck though, the band plays a more important role on the story than in Gravitation.
If you liked Gravitation, you'll love Beck. They are similar in kind but Beck turns out being better in my opinion.

They have the same mood: both slice of life anime about music and friendship, since in both there’s a group of friends who build up a band together.
Both also have some romance and comedy.
Also, both of the male protagonists are called Tanaka.
Black Heaven is about the ROCK. About feeelings you can`t get in other ways. It`s just you, your instrument and nothing`s between you and the Universe..

Both are essentially indie movies that were animated. Both Koyuki and Sato are stuck in a very bad mind set in the very start of the shows, and I believe that Koyuki could have ended up like Sato if not for his music passion.
If you like the Independent movie-like feel of NHK, then check out Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad a show about a band that takes the world by storm.

Even though one is about cycling and the other is about a rock band, there's a similarity in the personality and story development of the main characters -- quiet, unassuming guy finding a new niche and a group of friends through a new interest -- that might appeal to people who who liked the relationships more than the subject matter. Both Shinozaki (Over Drive) and Koyuki (Beck) end up having a natural aptitude that's brought out through the combined efforts of a charismatic brother and sister pair, etc, etc, etc. The shows really are similar in the general sense (not so much in art or subject matter, obviously).
The plots are totally different but they are both quite realistic stories of teams joining together and fighting to be their best. If you like the realistic style you'll enjoy watching both of these. And even learn a bit of stuff about music and bike riding that you didn't know before.
The main Character in both animes is clumsy and under confident. They both think that their not good at anything.
Despite them being about two separate things (sports and music) both Koyuki and Sena are rising stars in their respective shows. But BECK doesn't have Hiruma in it.
Both are great counterparts to each other. The iDOLM@STER is mainly rooted in telling a sweet story about upcoming idols, while BECK is more focused on telling a dramatic, sometimes heart wrenching tale of the rise of a rock group.
One is fluffy, one is realistic. Both are about music and very entertaining.
Both are music anime, where a group is formed. To get somewhere you need to give your best - that kind of feeling. Beck is rock, Tari Tari choir music though.
Both anime's share amazing music. While Beck is more rock inclined, Macross Frontier is more J-pop inclined. Macross Frontier does not focus very much on the musical aspect seeing as how it is an action mecha romance anime, but the music does appear quite a bit, and the music is such a perfect compliment to the already amazing fighting mecha scenes. If you love music, I highly recommend watching both of these. Be wary of the genres each specialize in.

so what the similiarity these one with the Beck?
first, it was band form.
second, i'd love an oldschool genre
third, they were are ROCK
the slight difference was the theme. if you catch my drift...
Music-themed anime and manga, but much more realistic. If you like Slice of Life themes and Music anime, then you'll like this. :3
In both anime main characters at the beginning don't have a goal in life, but by meeting someone they find it. Both anime have fishing in it, although Beck is about making a band, while Tsuritama focuses on the fishing itself.
Both main characters in these shows are normal students who have a hidden talent, but they don't know it until they meet a certain someone.
Both are working-towards-a-goal kind of anime that can change your life as well :)
Both main characters are looking for something exciting in their life. DRRR is about secrets and myths, BECK is about music. Funny thing is that Mikado from Drrr uses screenname Tanaka while Beck's main character's name is Tanaka ^^
Ok, so technically their not related in the slighest but both of them have amzing soundtracks that need to be heard
Beck has rock music...if you like Ai shite night you'll love Beck
Beck and Piano no Mori are both wonderful musical tales about love of music, perseverance, and self-belief.
Both have a similar slice of life feel and both are done by the same director, Osamu Kobayashi
Takemoto and Koyuki are both struggling to fulfill their artistic dreams while maturing and confronting the obstacles of life.
Beck has a strange dog, Tokyo Marble Chocolate has a strange mini donkey. Two strange animals trapped in otherwise realistic slice-of-life series.
Both are slice of life, coming-of-age stories about young teenage males. They both involve drama and romance, though it is more of a main focus in "Ocean Waves". "BECK" focuses more on music.
Both anime have preety simmilar "From zero to hero" feel, and bullied, hard-working type main character.
Furthermore they were both made by Madhouse Studios, however Hajime no Ippo is way better animated, but yet Beck has better soundtrack.
Well, check by yourself and hope you like them.
Both about music, and more just...(If i will tell you more it will be a spoiler ;D)
A college student has a girlfriend on her way to pop idol stardom. He manages to get involved with her mentor/rival and his girlfriends manager, not to mention a couple girls girls from college. He's really kind of a sweet guy. He just can't say no.
Major characters involved in popular band but it drifts more to the super natural than to the music scene.
The relationship between the male and female leads are similar since both are mismatched couples coming of age.
Both series are done by Madhouse, and are slice-of-life style stories about people trying to become famouse musicians. In Chance Pop Session the girls are trying to become pop idols(Obviously), while in Beck the band is trying to become a famouse band (Obviously). Both series are heavy on the drama, and are slow paced, but not boring. Also both series have high use of music, and good soundtracks(although Beck's is a lot better). Beck was made more for the males in mind, Chance Pop Session was made for the girls but neither are "extremely" girly/manly or anything. Also Beck has better animation, and the artwork loosk a lot nicer (attention to detail, better style, better character designs), but Chance Pop Session isn't ugly or anything, but Madhosue could have done a lot better, especially sense it's only 13 episodes long :( . It's kinda clunky at times, and the art seems very plane, and boring, although it has it's own little chamrs. But Madhouse really could do better. Nice character desings though, even if they are a little generic .Fans of one series probally would like the other.
