SynopsisHirasawa Yui, a young, carefree girl entering high school, has her imagination instantly captured when she sees a poster advertising the ‘Light Music Club’. Being the carefree girl that she is, she quickly signs up. However, Yui has a problem, she is unable to play an instrument.
When Yui goes to the clubroom to explain, she's greeted by the other members: Ritsu, Mio and Tsumugi. Although disheartened at Yui’s lack of musical know-how, they still try to convince her to stay to prevent the club’s disbandment. After playing Yui a short piece which re-ignites her imagination, they succeed in keeping their new member and guitarist.
Along with the tasks of school and homework, Yui begins to learn the guitar with the help of the other band members, experiencing many mishaps along the way. However, with the school-festival drawing near and Yui getting stuck with her practice, will the Light Music Club be ready in time for their debut?

K-ON! is inconsequential fluff. One might compare it to popcorn or cotton candy: a tasty treat, but if you're looking for a meal, it will leave you looking for something more substantial after it's done.
K-ON! follows the tried and true formula of cute girls doing cute things. Based on a 4-koma comic, the series is about several high school girls who form (technically join, but all the previous members graduated) a light music club and follows their activities. The music itself often takes a back seat to the antics of the girls, and audiophiles may find themselves somewhat disappointed if they go in expecting detailed attention to techniques or references to real life bands (there are a couple, but few and far between). There are two concerts in the thirteen episode series, but neither is as impressive as the one from the Live A Live episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (one of Kyoto Animation's earlier shows), but still very enjoyable. The most common scene in the series features the main girls sitting in the club room snacking on tea and cakes while discussing various mundane events, particularly with the more dedicated girls trying to get the rest to practice.
The girls all have their own distinct personality. Yui, the main character, is the some clumsy and adorable airhead. She joined the club hoping to play an easy instrument like the castanets but ends up playing guitar because the club needed a guitarist. Ritsu is the energetic idiot of the show, drummer, and club president because she was the one who dragged everyone else into the club. Mio is Ritsu's long time friend, and the sensible, serious one of the group. She writes the groups songs, and plays the bass. She is also the most moe character, being the prettiest, easily embarrassed, and terrified of ghosts and yucky things. Mugi is the pianist. She comes from a wealthy family, and thus is a source of amusement by displaying the difference in wealth between rich people and normal people. She is also the provider of the tea and sweets that are regularly consumed at the club meetings.
There are a few regular minor characters, too. Ui is Yui's younger, but more mature and reliable sister. Yui has a friend named Nodoka who joins the student council, which means her role is essentially to let everyone know that Ritsu has forgotten something regarding paperwork for the club. Sawako is a music teacher who is recruited as the club adviser in one of the more memorable scenes of the series. Also, a late addition to the cast is Azusa, an underclassman who is much like a miniature version of Mio.
Character designs are generally cute, with the kind of big round faces typical of most Kyoto Animation works. Background art is consistently good, as is the animation, which should come as no surprise. When characters are shown playing their instruments, there is generally more attention to detail than seen in anime to the point where the sound properly matches the characters actions. The singing at the concert features the same style animation as Live A Live, where you can just about lip read the lyrics (if you know Japanese, of course).
The music used in the series can generally be described as light and fluffy, both the background music and the couple of songs the girls play at their concerts, with the exception of the closer, which rocks a little bit harder than rest. The voice acting fits well all around, with Yui being notable for regularly coming off as someone who isn't all there, fitting her character well.
I don't want to close saying this show is like Azumanga Daioh with a music club, but that's about the easiest comparison I can make, and not too far off a description. read more

Another blockbuster from Kyoto Animation studio. Forming a music band that is a pretext to eat cakes and drink tea in nice atmosphere. Enjoyable and positive comedy with big accumulation of moe.
Kyoto Animation has at least two recognizable anime series. After Lucky Star and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya we have K-on. This time we don’t have loli student who talks about food or girl who search for aliens. This time the pretext is… a music band. Yes, Kyoto Animation knows how to attract millions of otaku. For K-on has so much fans as adventures of Haruhi or Konata and the amount of bayed guitars during emission has increased markedly. We have another phenomenon.
Yui Hirasawa is a very lazy and irresolute person. She would like to join same club but she doesn’t have any interests or talents. She arrived to the light music club by accident. The activities of this club fits Yui , who don’t like to overwork herself. She meets tree other girls, who also arrived to the club by coincident. Four of them tries to improve their play on the instruments, but after a moment of practice they sit by the table with cakes and tea. Even when a new member appears it don’t change anything.
There are five members in the music band. First guitar is owned by Yui, a sweet and drowsy but cheerful girl. On second guitar plays Azusa, band’s mascot with large avidness and graceful appearance. The bassist is Mio, a quiet a and shy girl, who get scared vary easily. Percussionist Ritsu is a person with thousand ideas and energetic personality. The last member Mugi, who plays the keyboard is the sponsor of all cookies and tea. We also have four tangential heroines. There are non male characters.
Every character movement or sentence fits the fans exceptions. Girls have very cute lifestyle and are very adorable. Yui sleeps in weird places, eating lots of sweets and acting lazy. Azusa as the youngest member have role of bands mascot, obviously with cats ears. Mio blasts everyone with her shyness and scariness. Ritsu capers around all the time. Mugi is a motherly type from rich family.
Persons who want to watch K-on because of music will be disappointed. The club activities are constricted to eating cakes and drinking tea, rather than practicing on instruments. They won’t write many songs or perform concerts every evening. Don’t expect any masterpiece lyrics either. The band plays very light music with trivial contents, singing about rice for example. It can be classified as sweet pop-rock.
All music theme is contained in short conversations about this subject. Problem with hurting fingertips, controlling instrument or catching the right rhythm are one of those enjoyable additions. That can encourage many people to try some instrument practicing. Besides the portrayal of instruments is incredible. The guitars looks so much genuinely that we can recognize their analogue in real life. The character movement while playing and the instruments images from different angles are also fantastic. Though the concert scenes are limited because of time accomplishment.
What else can attract to K-on besides tons of moe? Namely positive energy which bright up this title. Smile don’t disappear even for a moment. Carefree life of our heroines and the atmosphere will build up everyone’s mood. Days in the club are passing slowly, which is very relaxing. K-on don’t kill with laugh. You can find more funny titles. The humor is light and accommodate in characters of club members. We don’t have stupid gags or punching in the head.
Graphics are done very well, as like as the instruments that I previously mentioned. Colors are lively and apparently sloppy drawn outlines are adding some dynamism in the animation. The facial expressions of characters are also very positive. Even though the club members are in high school they look very young, but it can’t be sead that is a typical loli look.
The background music is very positive and don’t disturb on with any frustrating themes. The opening song is characterized by excessive cuteness and portraits perfectly what K-on is. Quick guitar sounds and squeaky voices can get your mind mixed up. Songs that girls are playing in the anime can be counted on one hand. If sweet pop-rock songs happens to fit someone’s taste there are many albums that contains band’s music not featured in anime.
Someone that don’t want to watch anything with moe will doubtlessly avoid this anime. If it doesn’t bother, many spectators will fall in love with the characters and bias positively with this mellowed title. Regardless, I wouldn’t categorize K-on as a music title this much. The designation that fits it more is “About girls who spend their free time in a funny and enjoyable way”.

carefree girls with slice of life/school life.
Both made by KyoAni, both deal w/ 4 girls, both are moe shows
Both made by Kyoto Animation, graphic styles are similiar
both tells a story about four girls, both are school comedies
This is very similar because both animes have four main charaters and slowly start to gain more charaters toward the end. They both express chibi scenes to make childish comedy which i could help but laugh at. The only differnce is that K-on is based around learning music and Lucky star tries to referance anything they can while at school.
Lucky Star and K-ON focused more on the drama/slice of life and comedy.
So, if you found Lucky star worth watching, then so is K-ON.
There are also character that act for the "moe", the serious one, etc.
Both of these Animes share a good amount of comedy as well as being slice-of-life shows.
Not only that but all four of the main girls from each series have a similar personality. Like...
-Konata=Ritsu, both of them seem to have a hyperactive attitude and act not as normal as others. -Kagami=Mio, both share a good study habits and are really smart. Plus they can act really strict .
-Tsukasa=Yui, both of them don't really like to study that much and they really like to eat sweets.
-Miyuki=Tsumugi, they both come form wealthy families and they also have a sweet personality.
Both animes follow four average girls on their "journey" through high school. both sets of girls look rather young for high schoolers, but face similar struggles as those that real high schoolers face. Also, while K-ON! has more to do with music, both have great songs! These comedies are both so great and if u like one of them you'll definitely like the other!!! hope this helps!!!
Both shows are from the same company, and feature four girls in a slice of life
They're both a slice of life anime with 4 cute girls and are made by Kyoto Animation.
Just replace "about weeaboos" with "about people who are shitty at music but think they're good" and you basically have the exact same anime
It's humorous, sweet and beautiful look, as Lucky Star.
Randomness all over the place xD Lucky Star is better though.
Made by the same studio, both have very similar type of humor, both are about a group of girls in high school and both are moe
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the charcters from lucky star all of a sudden created a rock band? well here you go. you can even see the characteristics of each of the characters being almost he same. The seiyu are different and not as well know but they are all rising starts in the anime business.
K-ON and Lucky Star are very similar in many ways.
Firstly: the characters are similar. Examples: Mugi and Miyuki are similar because both are rich; Konata and Ritsu are similar because both are crazy; Kagami and Mio are somewhat similar because they try to control the crazy ones; Yui and Tsukasa are similar because they both forget things, sometimes important things.
Secondly: In both anime, The story is revolved around 4 girls. In Lucky Star: Konata, Miyuki, Tsukasa, and Kagami. In K-ON: Mio, Mugi, Yui, and Ritsu. There are also teachers involved and other girls.
Thirdly: In both anime, the theme is comedy and school, however K-ON is music and Lucky Star is slice of life.
That concludes my recommendation.
K-ON and Lucky Star are both slice of life moe comedies that mainly take place in school. The characters are extremely similar, for example:
Konata-Ritsu
Tsukasa-Yui
Kagami-Mio
Miyuki-Tsumugi
Moe and funny what more do you need in any show. Both shows are lighthearted and fun to watch.
The story centers around four high-school girls who go about their daily lives, with various themes at the center. K-ON! is very similar to Lucky Star, but replace the 2ch references and otaku culture with music.
Lucky Star and K-ON! Has Similar characters, not by looks but by attitudes as well. It doesn't have the same storylines. But if you watch Lucky Star or the latter, you will feel the same atmosphere in both animes. They are produced by Kyoto Animation as well, giving you the same amount of humor, Lucky Star brought us.
They have a simple plot and they are really random. They focus on high school girls and their teachers; even the lead characters are similar.
(Kagami - Mio
Konata - Ritsu
Tsukasa - Yui
Miyuki - Tsumugi)
K-ON is pretty much Lucky Star with musical instruments. Both are made by the same company. If you liked Lucky star you will like K-ON also. (Judging by the 1st 3 episodes only)
K-ON! and Lucky Star are both easy-going, slice-of-life anime that have practically matching character personalities. K-ON has a hint of a story-line, but ends up with the pointless and random almost every episode, just like Lucky Star. If you loved one, there is no way you'll not love the other.
both animes are about skool girls
and they are both really funni
K-on is simply LS ripped off. Devoid of all its simple charm and pros. If you have to eat sweets at least choose these that won't make your stomach ache.
Same studio, similar narration and humor.
There are four main female characters (until Azu-nyan came on later in the series of K-On!) and very few male side characters for both anime. Some of them have similar traits too: Yuki-chan (Lucky Star) is prim and proper like Mugi-chan and Yui is somewhat an airhead like Tsukasa. The girls in both anime are energetic, happy, cute and random. Both anime are in the comedy genre.
They're both fairly random anime about a group of four high-school girls going about they're everyday life and having fun together. :)
both are EXTREMELY hilarious!!! just girls hanging out, talkin about stuff and doing things that makes you laugh!! the characters are very similar...
Yui- Tsukasa
Mio- Kagami
Ritsu- Konata
Tsumugi- Miyuki
the teachers who hangs around with them have the same personality as well, the 4 main characters treats them as if they're the same age....
Sawako- Nanako (they're also teachers who doesn't have any boyfriend so they have nothing else to do xD)
If you liked Lucky Star, you'll definitely love K-On!
The characters are all loveable, and its comedic aspects and slice of life genre will definitely appeal to all viewers :)
Just as random. Lots of moe and slice of life. They're both animated by KyoAni, and they're both so freaking funny!
K-on! is just like Lucky Star in so many ways. Even though the plots are different, the main characters have a lot of the same personalities and traits and it centers around their school life. It is also just as funny as Lucky Star =P.
Lucky Star and K-ON! are just the same. They are comedy series about a group of girls having fun and enjoying their lives. Both are slice of lives, and very enjoyable. Also, the characters are kinda the same. So, if you liked one of these two, just watch the other one, and you'll know what I mean.
They are pretty similar in how they both function, I can't say "If you like Lucky Star you will definitely like K-ON" but I can say you should give K-ON a try.
Both have the school girls and the funny moments without any real drama and tons of humour about their everyday lives.
Similar characters, similar animation.
They are both moe slice of life anime about school girls.
Both are totally random animes basically about what happens in the group of friends daily lives. They are light and fluffy. K-ON! revolves mostly on music while Lucky ☆ Star is really random, without a main topic.
-Group of school girls going through high school.
-Group of friends.
-Lot's of cuteness.
-Similiraty in the cute scenes.
Note: K-On! is also about a music band.
Talks about the daily life of high school girls. Lucky Star and K-On! are both relaxing and humorous animes. Lucky Star is pretty much K-On!, except without the music and has a lot of parodies of other animes.
High school, friendship, randomness, you'll love this anime serie.
In the both shows there are 4 moe girls with similar personalities.
Slice of Life comedy, heaps of laughs and great fun to watch
Slice of Life comedy and stuff.

A Channel and K-ON! are both slice of life comedy anime about four girls. The characters of A Channel also might remind one of the K-ON! girls. Both series also have a lot of music in them - in K-ON! it is from the girls in their music club, and in A Channel it is in the insert songs each episode.
Becoming Japanese national standard for bishoujo anime, both shows are, in short, the flagship kind of anime for male consumers.
They are cute girls anime based on manga series from Manga Time Kirara (Carat) and they share the same formula.
Kirara style in short is to have group of girls doing cute things and show affection for each other from time to time in a not so lesbomatic way.It was proven popular in the last few years judged by the success of K-On! And Hidamari Sketch.
So much for news reporting, while I’m still at it lets take a look at the actual similarity.
Well, you got four girls doing cute stuff, they do it in a suggestively but not openly lesbian manner, they both share school life setting, they are both slice of life comedy, they both are similar. Love K-On!, watch A-Channel, obviously.
The same 'school girls + slice of life' formula, of course! Both are pretty heavy on emphasizing the close bonds between the girls so they beg comparison a bit more than other series in the genre. And while K-ON! has the light music club as a central focus, A-Channel's inclusion of an insert song in each episode gives it a bit of a musical theme as well.
This anime gave the same feeling as K-ON! Same school setting even though in A-Channel the girls are not in a music club and same spaced out characters.
Both anime have 'cute girls doing cute things' with merely implied yuri scenes. Both are slice of life anime with the same type of comedy, mostly random humor. The characters are extremely similar with all-female cast. Both follow the regular days of students, its setting being in school.
same formula, both are slice of life comedy anime with 4 girls
A-Channel is basically a less interesting version of K-ON without the music and with less interesting characters. Not to mention the annoying insert songs...If you liked A-Channel, you'll love K-ON! If you liked K-ON, you might still enjoy A-Channel for the similar themes.
A-Channel is the show you should be watching in the current "off-season" for K-On, pure and simple. If you enjoyed the heavy focus on character interaction and the simple charm of four high school girls just being themselves, then I can't offer you a better show that is current enough than A-Channel. And let's not beat around the bush: this sort of stuff is cute. There isn't a more tasteful way to put it; you just get this "feel-good" sensation upon watching shows like this and I know if you were a K-On fan you indulged in that. A-Channel has some stronger girl-to-girl romantic overtones but it should be nothing out of the ordinary for a viewer of K-On. There isn't much to say on the matter so if you were looking for a more complex explanation, then I can't give it to you but I'm sure that if you understand what K-On was marketing to, I won't need to elaborate.
A-channel is so very similar to K-ON, it has the same entertainment.
Both shows follow four moe girls that do moe things. Its like a western sitcom with japenese moe to spice it up a little.
The characters are so similar. Literally, as i watch the first episode of A-channel i was thinking "That one is Yui, that one is Azusa, and that one is Mio."
They are so similar.
If you like one you will like the other, end of story.
I liked both.
Shares the same genre - comedy, slice of life, school. All girl cast. Mugi's VA also voices Yuuko.
I think the characters are very similar and Mio Yuuko mainly because they are so cute and also Run Yui seems to be on your way.
If you LOVE/LIKE moe characters, an intriguing slice of life, light hearted comedy and just plain cuteness, you'll love both of these animes! Both are about the lives of a group of girls, just having fun and enjoying life!
Both Moe-Blob shows with no real substance. Main characters are both air-heads, and the other characters are similar (if not seemingly the same) in terms of personality to each other. The art is different, and K-ON! Has better music and animation. The character Designs are very different, but they both suffice.
Both have a high school setting and are heavy on comedy. In terms of characters and "moe" they are almost identical ^^ Neither of them have much in terms of depth but if you liked watching one of them, you should check out the other.
Both animes are based on a group of girls in school who are affectionate about each other and the things each of them do together as friends.
actually same thing, some of the characters seem to have the same personality...but on my criteria I prefer K-on! over A-channel. K-on! has more to say than A-channel. :)
Both center around 4-5 girls and their school life. And both have a strong focus on comedy. They also both have a good deal of yuri undertones.
