Hentai: Whether you’re a high school student, an adult, or an old creepy guy, chances are that you’ve probably seen one or several at some point in your life. This is a genre of anime that usually has one or more of the following: A lack of plot, zero character development, extreme sexuality, and extreme levels of bizarreness. You won’t find many good or popular anime that fall under this genre. The majority of hentai titles are downright terrible, but people still watch them. This shouldn't be surprising though. After all, porn is porn. Whether or not the hentai is actually good doesn't matter to most hentai fans. As long as they can relieve themselves, everything's fine.
Kima no Na wo Yobeba is different from most anime pornography though. Does it have a lot of sexual content? Yes, like any other piece of pornography, there is a lot of sexual content. What does this one have? Pedication, irrumatio, coitus, cunnilingus, rape, and so much more. Calling this title tame in comparison to other hentai would be an understatement; you could argue that its sexual content is just as extreme as that of other hentai. However, this sexual content isn't present to arouse the viewer. In fact, I felt uneasy every time the characters indulged in sexual acts (with the final sex scene being the one single exception).
How often do you watch hentai and feel perturbed by characters indulging in sex? How often do you watch hentai and feel a desire to avert your eyes from your computer screen? How often do you watch hentai and ask yourself, "What the hell is wrong with these characters?" If you're the kind of person that prefers to watch hentai with one hand in his pocket and another grasping for the closest Kleenex, this is one hentai title you should never watch.
The feelings the sexual content evokes might make viewers think this an hour of depraved, gratuitous sex. However, this isn't the case. At no point did the sex seem gratuitous. Depraved? Definitely. However, the sex had a purpose to it. Want to know what I hate about ecchi titles? They have all this fan-service, but what does it accomplish? It gives the viewer wood. But what does it do for the show itself? Absolutely nothing.
In most hentai, the sex is present to evoke arousal. In this hentai, the sex is present to evoke sympathy for the female lead, Mitsuko. She endures so much suffering and grief by the hands of the cruel, ruthless male students that inhabit this "civilized" school. In all honesty, they treat her like a cum dumpster. She, along with all the other girls at this school, are treated as objects. The only purpose they serve is to satisfy the sex-craving males. As these males satiate their desire, they're ruining the lives of innocent girls. The depravity becomes especially apparent once you witness the lengths these males take to get their daily (yes, it's that common) dose of pleasure. Mitsuko is quite resilient though. Despite her incessant suffering, she still manages to find a way to smile. The fact there's so little hope for her in the situation she's in only adds to this resilience.
Although you will sympathize with Mitsuko, this isn't the main emotion conveyed. The main emotion conveyed is shock-value. None of the girls that appear in this OVA are treated as human beings. Both their feelings and sufferings are disregarded by the male characters. The biggest source of shock-value is the fact these males able to commit such actions so easily. There is no hesitation, and there is no remorse for their actions. Although I loved Alex from Kubrick's faithful adaptation, these guys are nothing like him. Alex raped for fun (i.e. like a recreational activity), these guys did it for the pleasure. It's wrong to rape for pleasure, but raping for fun is— Calling these male characters assholes would be a huge understatement. There are no words within my vocabulary that can describe the level of depravity this hentai has displayed.
Not all of the guys are obsessed with sex though. There is one exception and that is the male lead, Nakagawa. As he constantly witnesses savage acts occur around him, he's the only person to behave as a decent human being should. Considering how most of this society is behaving, one would expect him to act no differently from everyone else. Nakagawa, like most men, has sexual thoughts of his own though. By acknowledging the fact that all men are susceptible to lust, another human characteristic is added to Nakagawa. Is there any adolescent that can say the thought of sex has never crossed their mind?
When I first began watching hentai, my favorite part was always the soundtrack. No matter how uninteresting the hentai was, the soundtrack was the one thing that was always done right. Then I came across bad hentai and realized how far from the truth this idea was. Fortunately, this hentai's soundtrack isn't terrible. It's nothing special either though. The ED sequences are fitting, and the background music is sentimental. The background music is poorly placed half of the time though. Sentimental music playing as girls are forcibly being pleasured by (or pleasuring) multiple guys? That isn't fitting in the slightest.
As for the human condition, determining insight to this may require interpreting the dream motif. Throughout the OVA, Nakagawa refers to the world he's living in as a dream. The reality he's living in is so unlike what it should be that you can't really blame him for his way of thinking. Every day is like a nightmare. In this nightmare, human beings seem to have disregarded the emotions that make them human. The opposite sex has been objectified. And no one seems to be doing anything about it. What would you call this nightmare? A dystopia.
If you can't stand controversial subject matter, this is NOT the anime for you. If you just wiped the dust off your Kleenex, this is NOT the anime for you. If your right hand is your best friend, this is NOT the anime for you. If you spend your free time covering yourself up in vaseline and rolling around on the floor pretending you're a worm, this is NOT the anime for you. If you watch this anime, I highly advise reading the manga's synopsis afterwards (one idea that seems to have never been explicitly stated will become clear). If you read this synopsis beforehand, you won't feel bad or have the sudden realization.
This anime may fail as a piece of pornography, but it does succeed as being something else: A meaningful piece of animation. In a medium that seems to be devaluing meaningfulness, titles like Kima no Na wo Yobeba are becoming seemingly harder to find. read more

Did you know notice how she changed and cried after being given back her humanity in the form of clothing?
If we have nothing to start with then we have nothing to lose.
The dignity that her clothing represents is the truth that we run from.
“Humans are cruel, savage creatures. No matter how you wanna dress it up and disguise it...” Rorschach from the movie Watchmen.
You can call me out for quoting the obvious, but you can't deny the reality this hentai title displays; boldly, bravely, and uncensored in its attempt to depict the truth of our nature.
You can sit and hide inside your vanilla world and ideals, but you can't hide for long.
Truth is like the sun. Lies bring darkness but that darkness only lasts so long before the sun rises again and clears the lies that we tell ourselves in order to hide from the reality that is man and woman.
We can point fingers at this anime all we want, but the feeling we have inside is 'truth' wanting to be freely spoken and not disguised with our false ideals.
Art: 10 points
Very clean art.
Sound: 8 points
The sound of her crying sounded very real.
Character: 8 points
The characters were very gritty and real.
The switch between slut and normal school girl is easy to do, but that fact that the makers of this anime go ti t right when other have go tit wrong is a case for a few extra points.
Enjoyment: 6 points
I would have enjoyed it more, but watching real rape is not my thing.

Ruthless savages: That's what men are depicted as in these titles. Consumed by lust, they don't hesitate to make the lives of others miserable. Both morals and emotions have disappeared without a trace. In one, the source of the problem is society. In the other, the source of the problem is in the roots of human nature. These two titles wallow in depravity, but that's part of what makes them tragedies. I felt uneasy watching these titles, and that's not something I can say about most hentai.
