First off, I came across the series back when I used to scout animes I watched. I finally came to watching it. It was good. Once I saw it in FULL CONTEXT, it was better than I could ever imagine. So I will rate this series by 10 points.
STORY: The series follows the pattern of a normal magical girl series: Main character has a miserable life, comes across tragedy, finds transformation device, and becomes magical girl, with identity known to not many people. This series improves on the storyline by making more people respect the main character (with the character's best friend getting an overdose on respect), but sort of declines once you get to the idea that the main character is repeatedly f*cked by the talent agency. Overall, the story is very good.
ART: The backgrounds combines city and country into how I would picture Fukuoka. The art is shiny and magnificent, while sometimes, the art just disappears, making the room disappear all of a sudden. Outstanding, no?
SOUND: Clear sound. Makes you really get an earful of the full volume treatment. I would call the sound outstanding, but I'll rate it great, since Poemi's fast-paced talking makes the sound seem a little distorted.
CHARACTER DESIGN: Varing body shapes, artistic shading, and moe eyes? The character design is awesome all the way! OUTSTANDING!
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Simply put, character develops slow to none in this series. But screw development, the descriptions are good enough! But backgrounds are pretty bleak, like how Futaba exactly became prototype lesbian. I know it's supposed to be funny, but I just don't care.
MUSIC: A lot of the music comes from Excel Saga. Others are written by Yumiko Kobayashi. One even bacame prototype for a Naruto track. AWESOME!
WOMEN: A lot of the female characters are either cute or sexy, and that's really awesome that Ishino made the characters designed like that! But I could live my life without Shii continually groping herself.
WATCHABILITY: If you've seen Excel Saga, you'd get a lot of the jokes. But watching enough magical girl/hentai series would get you to understanding the jokes a lot clearer. But seriously. This series is watchable if you try. You might have second thoughts once hearing Poemi's voice, but the jokes will keep you glued to your seat.
PROMOTION: This got me to thinking about watching the series once I saw the English trailer. After seeing a lot of scenes cut out, I watched the original trailer. I respected the series more after that.
OTHER: Could really work on [as] if they had the right to air it. Or Excel Saga. That way, more of the jokes could be clearer. (BTW, [as] is Adult Swim).
but when I first saw images for the series, I thought the series was different, and made my own version with about most of the Aasu sisters replaced. I even went as far as to give Poemi fake parents (with KumiKumi in prison and Nabeshin the first villian, leading to a Star Wars V-esque reveal), make Futaba a magical girl herself, and imagine the series on FOX with none of the ADV VAs. I even thought Nabeshin was working for ACROSS! Good thing I scrapped thatidea before my brain overdosed on my own brew of awesome.
OVERALL: Awesome. Best magical girl series ever. 9/10. read more

This is a WTF show which appears to mostly be a way for the creators to make putty with the minds of the viewers. They do a decent job for only having two episodes to work with.
the 'plot' - The very fast speaking Poemi Watanabe is an aspiring voice actress. She is also a stalker who isn't given the time of day by the object of her obsession: K, a random schoolmate of hers who has funky hair. Poemi has a particularly bad day when her parents are murdered by an alien who then decides to destroy all of Tokyo. This makes Poemi mad so she switches costumes after being given a creepy fish(which she uses as a wand) and becomes a sort of superhero known as Puni Puni Poemi.
The show is a spoof of anime. I haven't even seen a lot of anime so the parodies/jokes are pretty straightforward. Puni Puni Poemi is such a strange show, with not even a moment of normalcy, that it was very rare that I laughed while watching it. That isn't to say that it isn't funny though because it does have its moments. I guess they felt like they had to rush the two episodes or something(at least, that is what it seemed like). The voice actors speak VERY quickly. I had to pause very often to get what the hell Poemi was saying. The voice acting/directing itself was a little annoying because of this but then again it's not the biggest deal in the case of a show like this.
I liked the artwork and how it shifted (quickly)through various art styles. If there's one thing I appreciate when it comes to art, it's versatility, so this show benefits from that. The character designs are decent for it only having two episodes. The animation is very bright and colorful which at the very least kept me from being bored in terms of its visual presentation.
To be honest, this show gave me a bit of a headache because of how rapidly it 'progressed' and of course the loud and equally rapid voice acting. But other than that, the comedy is a little hit-and-miss. I liked that it breaks the fourth wall and even references the show's staff and voice cast(most notably Poemi's voice actress Yumiko Kobayashi). It does leave an impression from the start considering its opening theme sequence includes some live action dancing by a mysterious woman. Also, this was one of the rare occasions where the over-the-top fan service actually made me laugh. What I liked most about the show was that it made fun of itself while not even attempting any drama. Thankfully.
Anyway, you should be able to tell whether or not this show is what you're looking for.

this is the follow-up project by director shinichi watanabe. only shared character is nabeshin but the style (extreme parody of japanese culture and slapstick humor) is the same.
Same studio, same director, same madcap insanity. Puni Puni Poemy is essentially Excel Saga compressed into two episodes.
Because the same people are behind both Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemy, they share the same spirit of random over the top comedy. Anime conventions are targeted in both series, with ES parodying a gamut of genres while PPP focuses mainly on mocking fanservice. Anyone who enjoyed one of these series is bound to enjoy the other.
Both anime are directed by the GDW -- Great Director Watanabe! If you liked one, then there's no reason not to see the other, but watch Excel Saga first because Puni Puni Poemi takes place after.
Both animes have their WTF moments....which makes both equally enjoyable. Puni Puni Poemi is just a short spin-off of Excel Saga with a different main character and more comical goodness that made Excel Saga a hit.
Nabeshin exists in both of these worlds and it's crazy as Excel Saga but in compact form.
It's by the same anime creators and some of the voice actresses overlap. They're both hyper and wacky.

Both of these series are out of their minds, insane and ecchi. I recommend them wholeheartedly. XD
Puni Puni Poemy and Bokusatsu Tenshi are a perfect match. Both are oddball comedies with hyperactive heroines running amok with plenty of ecchi moments thrown in for good measure. They have a rather tenuous plot that is compensated by a constant gag-fest that mocks anime clichés, mainly the magical girl genre in PPP and harem series in BT.
Each have ridiculous amounts of fanservice, violence, parodies, pop culture references, and have insane mahou shoujo protagonists. The manic energies for these anime is rather the same and the style of humour resembles one another as well.
