First of all, I must say the stories of these two anime are very different. But if you're looking for an intriguing anime that gives you the same feeling you have when you watch Jigoku Shoujo (and vice-versa), Le Portrait de Petite Cossette is a good option(and vice-versa).
Petit Cossette, is a little bit more bloody. And naturally, Jigoku Shoujo, could afford to move on the storyline more slowly since it has more episodes, while Petit Cossette has only around 120 minutes. But both series build the mystery at a similar pace, keeping you interesting and wondering what's going to happen next.
Both series have stunning visuals, doll-like character designs (at times), amazing music, and are similar in tone and atmosphere. Both are dark, gloomy, and disturbing (Hell Girl is more disturbing). The animation and artwork in both series looks a lot a like. Both also have great music and background music that sound similar. Hell Girl and Petite Cossette are both horror anime series, with elements of drama. They both also have the same feeling and style to them. Both series contain a mysterious girl who lived houndreds of years ago, that we learn very little about, but can be considered both beautiful and creepy.
However Hell Girl is more of straightforward then Petite Cossette . Hell Girl is also easyer to follow, and more dramatic (not to mention longer). Petite Cossete uses it's amazing animation and artwork to tell a story, but Hell Girl has a story and it's just told with great animation and artwork (understand? Petite Cossete is an anime where the art is the most important aspect and it is used in breathtaking and interesting ways and tells a story, Hell Girl is an anime where the story is most important, but the artwork is still amazing). The animation/artwork may be a little better in Petite Cossette, but that's mostly because it's a short OVA, where Hell Girl is a TV series.
Although the stories are different, both use the supernatural to play out stories about the repercussions sins of the past have in the present with a dark, highly dramatic, horror-themed style.
mistery, suspense and 2 diabolic girls with a pretty design and a evil aura

Same feel. Lots of gore, powerful music, lolis, and a complicated but not fully explored plot.
I was surprised in the similarity between Le Portrait de Petit(e) Cossette and Elfen Lied in both plot and (unsurprisingly) blood.
Both have the immediate element of bloody catharsis and paying for ones sins, more so in Petite than in Elfen Lied, through forbidden love.
Although Petite is much more abstract (and possibly violent) and viewers may not particularly like it, i suggest you give it a shot regardless.
Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is similar to Elfen Lied in several, if not many ways. They are both about a girl seeking revenge on someone from their past. That similarity being more of Cossette than of Lucy. Both are seeking revenge on the love of their lives. Both have "unexplained parts" in their story lines. Both are very gory. Elfen Lied is for more mature viewers than Le Portrait de Petit Cossette because it has quite a bit of nudity compared to Le Portrait de Petit Cossette. Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is an Anime where you do, in fact, have to figure out several things for yourself, or you could even use your imagination to fill in the unexplained parts. Elfen Lied has very few parts like this, but in comparison to the Manga. The Manga has the entire storyline within it, but the Anime doesnt. Even still there is only one serious point in Elfen Lied where you have to fill it in yourself. But, if you like A LOT of blood. Then you should see Le Portrait de Petit Cossette. In my own opinion, this is not as good as Elfen Lied, but it comes close.
Theres a LOT of blood in both of these animes. Main characters are cute, innocent looking females. Both are violent and show some type of human torture. -Also a bit of romance in both o:

First would be how both the main characters, Victorique and Cossette have similarities in terms of outer appearances(dark-lolitas) so there would be instances that they give strong similar aura around them so as for Kujou and Eiri.
Second is that both animes also have elements of romance and mysterious/dark stories around them though Cossette no Shouzou is indeed a more serious type of storyline.
-Nevertheless both of the anime are very interesting and is worth the watch for fans who love the same genre of Cossette no Shouzou or Gosick.
I had the same strange felling watchin' both series

have alot of secrets left behind too...
Everything is so gloomy..
Nothing alike. But SE Lain was one of the first animes that came to my mind when I began watching Le Portrait de Petit Cossette. Even though their feels grow apart after the first episode of Petit Cossette, they both start in this intriguing way that make you sink right into the story, in their own 'confusing' ways.
Lain's focus is more towards a slow paced, mysterious, sci-fi(the internet). While Le Portrait de Petit Cossette clearly focus more on the horror(blood) and morbid romance. Despite all differences, they are both dark, intriguing series that pay close attention to the characters' thoughts and 'insanities', ones that might even trigger your own ;)

Horror series featuring a mysterious girl and an ordinary boy trying to discern and overcome the supernatural circumstances plaguing them. The plots are quite different, but the creepy ambiance pervading both is remarkably similar.
Same sort of visual style and similar feelings, also the use of dolls, art and odd imagery

I had the same strange felling watchin' both series.. mystery, dark and a little bit psychedelic.
I had the same feeling while watching these animes. both have dark and slow moving stories. While Hitsuji no Uta had kind of like a vampire mystery feel to it, Cossette had this gothic and ghost mystery feel. great animes for the goths and vampire lovers out there.

Both abound in surreal and frightening dreamscapes, Art Noveau aesthetics, references to European literary classics, and both feature music by Yuki Kajiura.
Same director, same musician. The nightmarish imagery is reminiscent of each other and both explores their own themes in unconventional ways.

Very similar, but the doll in Rozen Maiden is really...a doll.
They are both very similar in that they are both psychological thrillers and that they both have a level of drama to it. They both have very interesting stories that are very mysterious.

Le Portrait de Petit Cossette and Comedy are dark and brooding anime that take the supernatural element to a whole new level of psychological ambivalence. Both are visually challenging and original in their take of emotionally upsetting horror.
It's hard to compare either of these anime to anything else, as I feel they are both quite unique. But, even though Kigeki does not have the same goth feel, there is a similarity in mood and how these stories are told. Both seem to rely more on visuals than dialogue, each with their own sense of a dark fairytale, taking us into another, but still familiar world.

Both animes have a dark atmosphere that goes very well with the themes and storylines developed. Le Portrait de Petit Cossette's more romance-drama based, and on other hand Pet Shop Of Horrors is focused on mystery and human's psychological analysis.
Either way, if you like dark animes that have the power to give you the creeps and stll be very interesting, now you've two good recommendations.
It's amazing how Le Portrait de Petit Cossette reminded me of the same feeling I had when I first watched Pet Shop of Horrors.
They both start with this gloomy and slow pace, building up both mystery and drama, making you wonder what happens next. Although in its own way, Le Portrait de Petit Cossette has a bit more of romance to it, even though a morbid one... they both leave plenty of interesting information for your mind to digest while enjoying the series.

Both very supernatural and hard to follow shows.
I recommend you watch them slowly and connect the dots little by little, then you will find both shows very horrific and formidable, yet somewhat entertaining and interesting.
Both shows are equally good.
Both series use the same director, have similar, dark and gothic atmosphere and consists of massive variety of art styles.
Main difference is that Petit Cossette is supernatural drama, while SoulTaker can be defined as action-adventure title.

Dark stories that make the viewer really ruly think.

|
|
Both anime have dark undertones, with Cossette's being more apparent most of the time. While ef is more refined in artwork and storytelling, both are conceptually very well executed, and deal with dualism of relationships past and present.
|
|
|
Both are very dark, beautifully animated, and have spiritual/paranormal feels. Both involving a girl who at one point wanted to severely harm/kill the male protagonist but then learned to love him.

Ergo Proxy has a rather dark look on life much like Petit Cossette. It ask many questions about the torture of the mind and the ideas of why we are here. In my mind, if you like this, then you have a love of how the mind works and Ergo Proxy seems to have that.

Both series contain the theme of horror and mystery. Although Cossette no Shouzou slides into the more serious side, both anime(s) retain its dark atmosphere. Romance and drama is also present in both series.

|
Similarities are :A"strange" young girl entrancing a boy in both anime , many shots are similar as i believe they have the same director, both towards the gothic type of anime (Petit Cossette being more)also the main boys both work in antique shop.

Mystery that unveils in different ways. Both slow paced in their own ways. While Mushishi is much more of a relaxed, yet serious watch; Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is more of a horror(bloody) dramatic anime.
Very different in everything apart from the core feeling, but both intriguing in their own ways. (And I think I never said 'own ways' so many times in my life)

Vampires(NightWalker) versus Horror(Le Portrait de Petit Cossette). One might think I went insane when making this recommendation.
They're both dramas, in their own ways. And they both contain a sensible taste of romance. While Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is a much more crude, bloody version of the less dramatic NightWalker... they both give me the same feeling somehow.
As if they were supposed to be on the same category... a tad of drama, romance, and a load of mystery.

Look closely and you'll think. "These two animes are nothing alike". Le Portrait de Petit Cossette has more of a dramatic feel to it, while Ghost Hunt slides way more towards a comedy(Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is very VERY far from a comedy).
But for some reason, they both appealed to me in a similar way. So if you're looking for a horror, dramatic version of Ghost Hunt with a tad of romance, go for Petit Cossette. If you're in the mood for a more lighthearted supernatural anime, go for Ghost Hunt.

While in terms of characters and plot these two titles have nothing in common, they are both considerably "dark" in mood. Both titles are short; one a film, and one an OVA. If you like the horror genre when it comes to animation, they are both satisfying, but neither requires too much time to be sacrificed. Lastly, they are both very open to interpretation, which is nice when you want to watch something that will leave you thinking.

(Of course I mean the whole KnK series, not just the final movie.) These titles are similar in many ways. First, they share a gloomy atmosphere, occult themes, rivers of blood & lots of other horrors. Second, both are truly stunning artworks featuring all modern achievements in the field of animation. Third, the plot: the two stories are equally unpredictable, with unexpected sharp turns and mind-blowing endings, and also connected by themes of love, sacrifice and redemption. And last — but definitely not least — the brilliant music by Yuki Kaiura.
