Fluximation is collection of thirty/forty-second clips that act as an animated interpretation of numerous songs off of Utada Hikaru's English language J Pop album Exodus.
Being an interpretation by the animators, it doesn't ignore the viewer and leaves us to interpret a lot of things as well. Most of the clips launch us into a set story or are symbolic or just exist for the purpose of existing. So, there is no real story. There are several self-contained episodes that focus on different people and things, and each reflect in some way or the other an aspect of the song. Some are directly understandable, others are not, and most are just wonderful eye candy to catchy songs. I do commend some of the shorts for being great interpretations or offering a deeper background to the song. Whether it's about a woman who is utterly frustrated by her boyfriend, or having meaningless relationships and being terribly lonely, or even about discovering yourself, these short stories are pretty interesting and definitely keep you interested, mostly due to them being succinct.
As for the art, it was spectacular. Namely the clips for Wonder 'Bout, Exodus 04, Crossover Interlude, and About Me were visual delights from these visionary animators. Excellent art, excellent direction, amazing use of colours and great animation. I couldn't find fault with the art styles used for each short. Even those that were weaker than the strong ones were still very good, so overall, this is a wonderful looking anime.
From poppy songs like Easy Breezy to the amped up The Workout to heavy songs like Tippy Toe and Hotel Lobby, the music for Fluximation was great. Especially if you like Utada Hikaru, you'd think this was a great soundtrack. I am not being biased, as I've only really heard a few songs of hers prior to watching this--the ever-famous Passion or Sanctuary, but I must commend her as an artist. As for the music's relation to the anime, it suited the clips well and went with the energy, be it slow or fast-paced.
There weren't any real characters in this anime. The clips raced by so quickly, there was hardly time to flesh out any of the characters seen. But there are some interesting ones; characters who would make you interested in their stories or the things they have to say or show to us.
Fluximation was great fun to watch. It was quick, had beautiful animation, and great songs. The music may not be recommended to all as it is mostly pop. But for those who love Utada Hikaru or those who enjoy poppy music on the whole, this is a great compilation and interpretation of the artist's work.
Definitely worth a watch if you're into the more technical aspects of anime, such as art direction, animation and sound. read more

Both Passion and Fluximation are collaborations done by the anime production company Studio 4°C and the pop singer Utada Hikaru.
While Fluximation features only snippets of Utada's songs, Passion is a full-length music video. You'll get great music coupled with some stunning and artsy artwork (though be aware that Passion has an extended live action segment; Fluximation is purely animation only).
