Synopsis

Ever since the death of his grandfather, Yasuji, Kousuke Kumagaya has grown distant from his close friend, Natsume Tonai. Having grown up together like siblings in the same apartment building, the two now find themselves at odds with one another due to Natsume's inability to let go of the past. This rift is further exacerbated by the news that their former complex will soon be demolished.

Hearing about a ghost that is supposedly haunting the old complex, Kousuke's friends drag him into the demolition site to look around. When Kousuke finds that Natsume is also there, they get into an argument over an old camera that once belonged to Yasuji. This results in Natsume running off with it, but just as she is about to fall off the rooftop, a torrential downpour envelops the entire building, flooding the ground around it.

The young children now find themselves drifting at sea with the apartment building acting as their ship. Unable to communicate with the rest of the world, Natsume and Kousuke must reconcile their differences if they want to stand a chance at finding their way home.

Such a studio colorido film. One of my top fav anime movies. I just started loving it by the bond they have amongst natsume,noppo, and kausuke portraying their emotions so Determinatively and their rescue actions, all those nostalgia of apartment bringing up their true unbounded love for trees. Even though it's a fiction of hoping that trees gives life. The truth had already been there in many reality. Apart from studio ghibli, I really love and appreciate colorido movies!!

I love these genre of films and this is truly unique in my perspective.

Mixed Feelings

This anime movie is an unknown Netflix movie and it's normal that it's not well known because when you look at other anime movies, you feel the fluidity, but when it comes to the movie called Ame wo Tsugeru Hyouryuu Danchi, we encounter an extremely boring movie, but I must say that sometimes it is also beautiful. The reason for this in general, I will explain in the review immediately.

The story of the movie is generally interesting and I can say that it handles it well. Whether it is the character development of the children and with a good duration, of course it can be ... handled well. For example, in the Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel trilogy, which I find Overrated, they cannot introduce the characters or even process them, only action, but since this movie uses its time well, we can watch it very fluently, but the drama between the characters is extremely boring, so I could not get emotional in the drama scenes. I think the characters are generally flat and I would like the voiceovers to give better emotion, but I don't know, this version is also good but boring. In fact, the reason why this anime movie is boring is that it is a children's movie, so many topics are told in a childish way and I think it is a family movie that explains a child's situation in a good way. I like this kind of heartwarming movies a lot, so it increases its score for me. However, this heartwarming subject is told in a boring way as I just said, the anime has a dialog problem in general. If the narration was better, maybe it would have been better for me, that is, this movie cannot tell the subject that Vinland Saga tells in 1 episode, so it is extremely boring. In fact, it has a very good plot, that is, we see the drama of a child after the loss of someone and how he will try to live without him, his family problems. They could actually handle it very well, but I'm sorry, this anime has a really boring narrative.

As for the characters, for some reason, except for the main character and Noppo, the male characters could not be handled and cared about, but the female characters are very prominent, and as a Monogatari fan, I am quite happy with this, who cares about male characters anyway, right? After so many jokes, it's time to get serious. First of all, I think the character development of the characters is explained very well and you love them all in a way, but we can't love them too much, but I add plus points here because they are not monotonous characters (male characters are monotonous, forget about them) and the dynamics between each other are done very well and we even see how much they develop. Also, Natsume's character sometimes behaves in a very annoying way, but it's still good.

By the way, I can say that I really like the drawings for some reason and I think the animations are pretty good even if they are not top notch. Other than that, I still don't remember anything among the soundtracks, so Mushishi is still the best soundtrack. Also, the background drawings were very good and the sea drawings were definitely very good, for example, in Vinland Saga, the seas looked like shit, but since the main theme of this anime is about a building standing on the sea, they did the sea drawings well. Also, I really liked the character designs and the expressions they gave were just fine.

My last thoughts about the movie were that it was a good anime movie that was not bad, but of course I prefer the Haruhi Suzumiya Movie, but I think this is an okay snack anime movie, so I recommend it to everyone, see you.

I don't know what it is with anime's these days having such an intriguing plot and meaningful theme but then just completely butchering the specifics. On the surface, Drifting Home is a story of childhood friendships and maturing as you learn to move on. The kids in the film find themselves at an old apartment complex that is set to be torn down - only for it, and them, to be transported into the middle of the ocean.

You'd think that the characters with such a close proximity and nowhere to go, there'd be plenty of opportunity to explore the bonds between the children. And ... you'd be mistaken. Instead, it spends the majority of it's runtime inching towards any sort of character arc. The supernatural elements are explored instead, but in a rather incomplete manner that still leaves more questions than answers. It feels like the metaphor was lost and instead focused on too much practically rather than what could be implied with it.

There's a total of seven children who get stranded, two of which are the main focus of the show. I cannot for the life of me remember their names and I only took a 4 hour break after watching to begin writing this review. So yes they weren't memorable in the slightest. The boy is the mainmain character, we see the events through his eyes almost predominataly. His character arc is incredibly simple, goes in hand with the theme of the show of maturing, but specifically in terms of understanding others. He doesn't really feel like the main character though as the female lead goes through a more interesting arc in my opinion. She has to learn to overcome imposter syndrome, grief, guilt, and ultimately mature and move on by letting others share her burden - opening up. Her arc was more fleshed out but it only really became the focus, or even started during the final act of the film. There's another girl character who has to learn to stop being stuck up, and then her friend who just seems to be a vehicle for stuck-up-girls development. The other two boys are irrelevant and the show would be no different if they were gone. The final boy is just, weird. It goes with the supernatural stuff and the show could've done without it as this gets too much focus and serves as nothing other than a literal metaphor.

The animation and artstyle is incredibly pretty to look at, and the soundtrack was very well made - perfect music for a lot of moments that did make them quite moving.

Overall this movie doesn't really do anything or tell any story. It's should've decided to either keep the supernatural elements a metaphor or fully embrace them - rather than not committing to either resulting in this awkward mess.
