SynopsisFollowing the line of the precedent OVAs (of the same name) This anime goes around the normal lifes of some elementary school (5th grade, 2nd class room) kids and their adventures, while turning to teens. Their games, stupid jokes, and the misunderstadings around their premature attraction to the opposite sex. Ryota Satou is the main character here, but his friends are almost as important as him since the school wouldn't be the same without them, specialy the girls who the majority of time appear to be mature by their ages but in the ends they are as childish and even more "dangerous" than the boys.

If you have not seen the OVA I would recommend not watching the OVA until finishing the TV series. That way you will not feel let down. It was like Tenchi, I first saw Tenchi in Tokyo and enjoyed it, then I saw the OVA and was blown away.
For what it's worth I rather liked the TV version. The OVA had the ecchi and more perverted stuff apparently, but I don't think they're really missing that much from this one. Maybe the TV censorship is just getting around to everyone. I'm not the least bit surprised. I won't only blame Xebec for that. They're censoring anime nowadays too.
The animation, I didn't mind one bit actually. Maybe I'm getting too used to the blobby-animation techniques by a lot of Gainax anime and something like Death Metal City that doesn't worry too much about sticking to a static look. But honestly, I really liked what I saw for the most part. A lot of cute 5th grader antics and some Minami-ke-esque realistic-faces parts always turned out pretty funny for me.
The characters are cute and their interactions fun in a childish way. The animation when they get serious and they are drawn as teenagers adds an interesting element. The loli echii undertones throughout the whole thing make me wonder what exactly the creator is trying to say or who the audience is intended to be.
Not sure what to say honestly about this anime. It's fun but silly. It has child like situations but throws in adult like interactions. It seems to have some romantic element in it but then at the same time it down plays the romance and up plays the echii innuendos. Not much of a story, just a good-ole-fasion slice of life told through the eyes of seven fifth graders.
After what I thought was a really rough start, the series finished up nicely after they found their pace and speed. I also liked the opening and ending themes which were sung by the entire cast and quite catchy.
Once you've finished the series, vote for your favorite song here:

A light-hearted story of a normal, average day told from the perspective of the 5th graders themselves, That sums up Kyou no Go no Ni (Today in Class 5-2). It's a enjoyable show, with enough comedy to last you quite a long time. While there's not alot of actual "plot", there is however, the hilariously mischievous cast of 5th graders that we get to watch, being themselves.
Story: (7/10 - C)
There's not really a story, unless you count each day a different plot a story. There's three periods per episode, 3 different events unfold. Whether it's being locked in a storage room with the girl of your dreams or rocking out with a broomstick, each episode leaves you giggling uncontrollably. It's pretty straight-forward: 5th graders being 5th graders.
Animation: (8.5/10 - B+)
I was fairly impressed by the overall pacing of the animation. Each episode was very well drawn out, not leaving one detail untouched. The character designs were, to be blunt, cruddy. I'm not a fan of animes with characters with big eyes (Clannad is a prime example, mostly visual novels), which is an immediate thumbs-down.
Sound: (7/10 - C)
Other than the OP "Nisemono", most of the theme music was pretty bland, or just not enough. There what i call "School Beats", mainly used for shows such as this one.
Characters: (8.5/10 - B+)
Ryota Sato is your average kid, mischevious and always pulling pranks. Take that and multiply it by 6, and you have the whole cast (Minus some of the females). Most of the cast keeps this behavior for the entire show, but i really enjoyed it. Most shows have these same kinds of characters, but they end up failing because of one thing: It DOESNT work for them. It works for Kyou no Go no Ni because it's a school comedy with some ecchi overtones.
Enjoyment: (9/10 - A)
From start to end, i started watching Kyou no Go no Ni with one thing in mind: Let it stay light-hearted the entire way. It did, and i couldn't explain how enjoyable this show was. If you're looking for light comedy, look no farther. Kyou no Go no Ni is a pleasant experience, just right.
Overall: (8/10 - B)
The Good (+): Excellent Voice acting (All voiced by girls, btw.), Catchy OP song, something to lift your spirits with.
The Bad (-): Lack of character development for most of the characters. Cruddy character designs followed by mixed up Ending themes that randomly appear out of nowhere. read more

Humor in both animes are character-driven and non sequitor. Episodes are each divided into free-standing scenarios. Azumanga Daioh is entirely female-centric, whereas Kyou no Go no Ni is grounded on awkward(ly comedic), inappropriate male-female interaction.
If you want a good laugh and Kyou no Go no Ni made you laugh, then you should start Azumanga Daioh. Even the structure on an episod is similar, short - funny "episodes" pasted togheter to form a 20/25 minutes episode...

both have main characters around the same age, have sort of short mini episodes, and have comedic elements.
