Both contain a character with painful memories and them dealing with it by avoiding some sort of art, whether its musical or visual. The same mood gets sent whenever both shows start digging into the past and each give hint by hint to what happened.
both are romance, both have a bit raeted to painting, and not being able to paint, in ef and in canvas it is becouse of an experience in their past. canvas is more harem.they have a similar art style, but ef being newer has a bit better art.
In both stories there is a talented painter that cannot paint cause of a painful experience.Futhermore both animes are Drama-Romance type.Although, Ef is a much better anime overall.

pseudo sequel to memories, plots focus on a new set of characters although the mysterious Yuko Yui relationship will revealed.
Several references to ef memories characters. Same high quality animation, music and voice acting as you would expect from original.
I would say the painful elements in melodies are a lot darker but overall a great series.

Same music, similar art. Great twists, nice romance. Just except this is a movie.
