SynopsisAya, Yoji, Ken, and Omi are the four young men who comprise Weiss Kruez (WK), an assassin group who eliminates certain menaces to society. Each member has his own trademark fighting style. Aya is adept at fighting with a katana, Yoji has mastered the art of strangulation via strings, Ken is lethal with his metal claws, while Omi specializes in a wide array of projectiles. Under the command of a mysterious man known only as "Persia", the WK is dispatched to take care of drug rings, terrorist factions, and the like. But as things go along, they discover that most, if not all, the bad elements they have dealt with are somehow connected to the Takatori family. The Takatori family is rich, powerful, and influential. It seems if the problem is to be nipped in the bud, the WK would have to put an end to one of Japan's most prominent clans.

:::FULL REVIEW::
Weiss Kreuz is one of those anime shows that you've feel you've seen before. And you're mostly right, the overall story has been done by every box-office smash, b-movie, independent movie, anime, TV show, and even children's programming. But what this resembles most of all is some "mature-ish" version of Power Rangers. Four main characters that specialize in their own fighting style working for one mysterious entity. Out fighting one conglomerate trying to find the truth all while unleashing some justice in the world. Sounds like something you've seen before right?
Well if things are pretty much rehashed iterations of other shows, how does this one fare? Horribly. The little missions they take on every episode are all cookie cutter and VERY cheesy. Something you would expect from an 80's anime, not an anime that aired in 1998. Even the dramatic scenes are completely predictable and laughable as well. Well if theres any reward for this story it would probably be for "the most use of vehicular manslaughter in an anime series." When you expect the story is getting weak or going no where, a revving engine followed by screeching tires and people screaming will soon be behind. It's pretty funny how they manage to throw so many cars into crowds or people getting run over.
The art is something to be believed. Aura Battler Dunbine and DBZ did a better job getting animated than this show did. While I was watching this show I could have sworn this was made in the 80's but for a show to look this bad so late in the 90's is just embarrassing. Especially when theres so many vehicles in this show, none of them resemble any car and they're animated in like 4 frames or less. It doesn't even look like they tried to make this show look good. Don't be fooled by the art on the anime profile, it looks ten times worse in animation form.
I gave the sound a "Mediocre" rating because it sounded like this is where most of the effort was put in. They tried to portray a chaos during their fights and for what it's worth it wasn't that terrible. But its hard to rely on the sound effects when the corresponding artwork is so disgustingly poor. I was even surprised by some of the voice actors of the show which played their parts pretty well. I'm sure you'll be able to spot some popular seiyus in this show if you manage to give this show a try.
The seiyus did their job on getting their character across to the audience, but unfortunately the characters came off cookie cutter and predictable. I mean, their base of operations is a flower shop *~* Their character specialties are pretty hilarious too. I mean how can one persons specialty be choking people? I understand the feeling of want to choke people every now and then, but using that as a form of killing is kind of counter productive don't you think? The other three members use a gun, sword, and claws pretty standard for an anime. You'll laugh at the "RAGE" when you see it. If you'll remember anything from this show, it'll definitely be "RAAAAAAAAGEEE!!" ^_^
Overall, it was so bad, it was VERY hard to keep watching all the way through. I was hoping something was going to make it better but all i got was RAGE. I was definitely laughing more than anything else. If you love poorly made action flicks or enjoy laughing at points where you're not supposed to laugh, give it a go. This show is worth a few laughs if you can stomach everything else. read more

Story: 4/10
I gotta admit, I was intrigued by this anime because (like any girl) I'm a sucker for the pretty boys, but pretty boys don't make good plots. Too predictable, too "safe" and definately TOO stupid. I can't stand an anime I can easily predict and doesn't have enough substance to keep me interested. Sadly this anime lacked all of the above and more.
Art: 5/10
The art wasn't TERRIBLE but it wasn't the BEST either, it was more average than anything. The facial expression lacked emotion, the women were poorly drawn (how any of them fell for those women is beyond me) and it was just a boring style of art. Just too bland for my taste sadly and it wasn't balanced properly, meaning the men and women should be equally good looking or bad looking. This shows the artist has the ability to be diverse in his/her art, and not focus on one gender or the other.
Sound: 3/10
The opening and ending were alright, but the music within the anime was bland and the insert songs SUCKED. I hate to say that but lets face it the VA's for the main characters are not meant for singing. They could've gotten better voice actors, Aya's voice was hardly fitting I find, and Omi's was far too underdeveloped.
Characters: 5/10
You can't really sympathize with them, well you can sometimes but it's hard to really connect with them when their kinda devoid of a whole lot of inbetween emotions. Their either one way or another, the only one that's typically indifferent is Aya and he's so bland, rice is more appealing. Omi tries to act too grown for his age, Yoji is just your typical male player, and Ken is so boring thinking about him makes me sleepy. The characters are only good looking, there is nothing deep and profound happening beyond the surface.
Enjoyment: 5/10
I was being nice frankly, I enjoyed the first 9 eps after that I felt more like I was forcing myself to finish rather than enjoying myself. It's really an anime I wouldn't suggest (and believe it or not a friend of mine suggested I not watch it, should've listened). So enjoyment was kind of absent after episode 9 sad to say.
Overall: 4/10
The anime had more potential, it could've created more original characters, a better plot, and done better with the music score. It just felt like they were sorta tight on money so they grabbed a couple people off the streets, gave them the lines and called it a day. It felt like little effort went into it. So I am unfortunate to say that this wasn't the worst anime, but it's certainly on the top 20 list. read more

More specifically, if you were intrigued by the concept of the Twelve Heavenly Generals in the Martial Fist arc, then you may enjoy the similar group, Weiβ. Both are underground assassin teams that target criminals who escaped the justice of civil law. There's also the same angst-ridden back stories to some of the characters.
And if the supernatural element of "Tokyo Majin" excites you, then check out the antagonist group to Weiβ (White), Schwarz (Black) whose members have ESP powers and work in the shadows.

At the very beginning Night Head Genesis reminded me so much of Weiß kreuz! They share the same ambience, melodrama, and even the artwork styles are similar (although Genesis is much more consistent than poor Weiß).
While there are no assassins in Night Head Genesis, both anime do revolve around unique sets of people and professional organizations; for instance, Arc is comparable to Eszett. The plot is carried out in much the same way as the Missions of Weiß - that is to say, with story arcs that are all connected by an overall scheme in the end. The arcs in Genesis are not as action-packed as Weiß, but the fight sequences watch the same.
The Genesis brothers reminded me specifically of Aya and Omi from Weiß, but of course there is the feeling of Schwarz about all the characters in Genesis simply by their ESP and desire to alter society with their supernatural gifts.
Definitely if you've seen one anime, you'll enjoy the other title.
