School Rumble San Gakki

Coming from someone who went to read the manga after watching the entirety of the first two seasons, SchoolRum San Gakki felt incredibly rushed, in comparison with the manga which clearly had enough content for another full 24 episodes.

Instead it adapted some of the more important scenes (all of them were well done, though it felt incredibly disjointed at times, non manga readers may not see it though), due to perhaps popularity or budget, which we will never know heh. Perhaps of note is how the MC Harima developed over the very short adaptation - it was done very well and conveyed just how ... good the character development was in the manga.

Though overall, a rather lacklustre end to a great show that gave me 2 seasons worth of laughter, due to perhaps unexpected circumstances if anything. Do read the manga if you want to know how much you've missed! :)

The School Rumble San Gakki OVA anime is based on the last part of the School Rumble manga. The original series of School Rumble has 26 episodes each season, but this OVA has only two episodes.

The main criticism is that it's too short, with only two episodes. This isn't enough to properly conclude the story of School Rumble. The choice to shorten the final part of the manga for the OVA was a mistake. The pacing is too quick. If you haven't read the manga, you could be easily confused. The anime offers a brief and rapid summary of what happened after the second ... season, which, in my view, explains things a bit but not adequately. The OVA focuses on Tenma Tsukamoto and Oji Karasuma's story, which I think is well-executed. However, certain parts had to be cut to fit within the two episodes of the School Rumble San Gakki OVA.

They also cut several essential subplots from the manga, which affect the overall story of the third term and the final conclusion. Additionally, the promotional poster featuring Mikoto Suo wearing a wedding dress is missing in the OVA as one of the OVA chapters from the manga with Haruki Hanai having amnesia has not been included in the anime adaptation. The entire long-distance walk for third-term students is briefly summarized in the OVA introduction. All the humor, subplots, and other occurrences during the marathon have been omitted. Also, this hinders character development. For instance, Eri's feelings towards Harima at the end of the story, Mikoto's feelings towards Hanai, and Tenma's struggle due to Karasuma's disease.

The School Rumble Third Term OVA was enjoyable but disappointing, as many things were cut out. The decision to end School Rumble in just two 25-minute-long episodes was wrong. They should've ended School Rumble through a 75 to 95-minute movie or a 13-episode TV series.

This ending was obviously rushed but i doubt it would have been much better if it wasn't. The first two seasons had me rooting for Harima and hating Karasuma so the fact that Honda ended up with Karasuma and Harima ended up with nothing this season rubbed me the wrong way. Even if they had 20 more episodes to come to that conclusion I think that actually might have been even worse. One of the worst anime endings to one of the best animes.
