Both based off video games in the same "Tales of" series. They don't have any direct connection besides the name, but both are great but short shows.
Both animations are from the Tales Series. In addition, both animations are very brief retelling of the plot that occurred in the game.
Well they're both part of the Tales of series. And Phantasia is actually a supposed sequel to Symphonia.
They're both really great series and have lovable characters. Symphonia has just been made but it's very nice...especially after just seeing the first episode.
So if you did like Phantasia, definitely check out Symphonia. And the games too ^^
Although Tales of Phantasia is better both are OVA's made from games.
They are both based off the Tales series videogames. Classic traditional swordsmen main characters, a heroine, and comrades out to save the world from evil or disaster.

These two series have a LOT in common. Mainly it's about team of brave heroes who will rescue land from dark forces during big battles with using swords and magic. It contains colorful characters, as visually, as well as in development. Both based on "Tales" game series.

In both shows there's a lot of action and (as in one the protagonists use magic and in the other alchemy) a lot of special effects. Also, you'll enjoy these anime more if you're already a fan of the series (TOP videogame, FMA:Brotherhood series)

Oddly enough Tales of Phantasia takes place in the same world as Tales of Symphonia but 4000 years later or earlier( i forgot)
