Primarily, both involve animals and have short episode lengths - Chi's Sweet Home with episodes around 2:30 minutes each and Damekko Doubutsu with times around 5:00 minutes in length. They're both sweet and comedic, and both are meant for children. Damekko doesn't have the 'Awww' factor that Chi does, however, but they are both similar in other respects.
They are both pure cuteness with a bit of humor and the episodes are extremely short (although Chi's Sweet Home are much shorter). Both have to do with talking animals and are pretty random with no real plot. Both are great to watch in one long boring day.
Comedic "children's" anime about animals, but Chi's Sweet Home deals with cats only. Both also have a very short episode length, although Chi's Sweet Home is about 2 1/2 times longer, overall.

They're both anime about cats. Although She and Her Cat is somewhat 'dark' compaired to the light heartedness of Chi's , I found them cute anime. She and Her Cat is an OVA while Chi's Sweet Home is a series. Must watch!
Both are told from a cat's point of view.

Both consider about daily life of a "pet".
Cute comedy shows with animals as the main characters. The animals can talk (but Chi does not talk with the humans) and have funny adventures. The families who keep the pets are very similar too - mother, father and a son. Higepiyo may be bit more for older kids, while Chi can be enjoyed regardless of age.

The daily life and adventures of a pet. Hamtaro is aimed even more towards kids, as the anime gives these animals more personification than the animals of Sweet Home.
From what I've seen, they both seem to be cute, funny kid shows. They both deal with the lives of an animal; their adventures and relationships with their owners.

Dark Side Cat and Chi's Sweet Home are both about cats and are shorts.

They are both really a series of 5 minute shorts about everyday life, in the case of Chi it's a cat, and in the case of Kaa-san, it's about children mainly. The art is a little cuter in Chi than in Kaa-san, and there is more of obviously autobiographical aspect in the Kaa-san series, and also there is more of a continuing story with Chi (this also applies to Chi's New Home, by the way). But both are a story of funny, cute, even touching moments in the daily life of Chi or a mom.

Both are laid-back series with lots of cats :3

Both kid's shows short in length, both feature cute animals, both occasionally heartwarming and almost always comedic.

Both set in simple surroundings and settings (although AY is more simple than Chi), both feature animals in fun, comedic, heartwarming, and dramatic (less in Chi) scenes in they're series.
Although Animal Yokocho features three animals from "another realm", Chiizuu just features a normal cat . Chiizuu follows more a realistic plot based on things that really might happen or does happen with cats, while Animal Yokocho is full with weird stuff (hence: "another realm" earlier). Both very enjoyable for young kids, and adults.

They are both funny(how can kitties and fairies who know absolutely nothing about life not be funny?), they both have a slice-of-life feel(fairies learning about Japanese customs and a kitty living with a regular family learning rules), and they are both completely adorable! How can kitties and fairies not be adorable?!
