A psychological thriller that focuses on human nature and violence. It puts people into a situation that tests their morality in order to survive. The main characters are very similar and they are both action-packed and mildly disturbing.

Elfen Lied and Gantz revolve around shock value and how it can be turned into a narrative devise. Both push the envelope in terms of graphic violence and excessive gore with plenty of nudity to boot. EL has peaceful interludes that keep it from becoming utterly without hope while Gantz hardly ever slackens its pace of bloody action. These series manage to horrify and move the viewer, in EL the cute character design makes the massacres all the more poignant while Gantz's mostly realistic design adds an air of verisimilitude to the insanity.

Darkness, gore and absolute dispair. If you like that kind of style, check em out both. Both mediocre though, they're worth watching for the insane carelessness and hate of most characters in both series. Plus Gantz has titties.

If you take away Gantz's fondness of boobs/nudity/twisted humour, the death games between humans and creatures that crush men like insects - not even the respective main characters being safe - makes Gantz & Shingeki one and the same. The despair the cast convey when confronted with the terror of a threat beyond human understanding sticks the two together like glue. There's very little out there that can make people feel the same sense of dread as its characters do, whether on page or screen. The casts of the two are forced into 'do or die' confrontations with freaky creatures, knowing either it or themselves  read more

Both Bokurano and Gantz are about a dreadful game that entraps its players and submits them to inhuman torment. Gantz is considerably more violent in terms of credible gore while Bokurano is more pervasive insofar as the violence is mostly psychological yet in both there is an overwhelming feeling of unfairness and unavoidable doom. The mystery that surrounds the nature of the game is similar in both series, Bokurano eventually provides an explanation that ties up with larger than life consequences while Gantz remains enigmatic through and through.

Both "Gantz" and "Ichi the Killer" are shocking, disturbing, dark exercises in ultraviolence. Both series will show you disturbing images you probally don't ever want to see, but like a train wreck, you can't look away. Also both surprisingly have a large amount of dark humor. Half the time your watching these anime series you will be laughing, and the other half you will be repulsed. They are both full of gore, sex scenes, screwed up scenes, and show more blood then most other anime series, in a shorter time then though possible. The music in both series sound very much alike. From background music to  read more

Contains a lot of violence as well as a good amount of fan service.

Both of these series deal with the concept of Human life and essentially how much it's worth. They both are commentaries on how people devalue human life.
report Recommended by JackCox
Violence, darker, shallower nature of humans portrayed. Violence may be pointless sometimes
report Recommended by puvijain
There are a few similarities between them and give off the same vibe while watching. They both are: - supernatural -brutal and tragic -not afraid to kill off characters -slow paced -mature in content -a lustful teenage boy as main

Not sure if Alice in Borderland or another season of Gantz with a little less "alien"! Both are a roller coaster ride of action, struggle for survival, drama, starring Unknown-being-thing toying with people and main character who is having an existential crisis due to feeling useless and helpless.
report Recommended by TheAssassin
violence, blood, nudity... even the animation is quite similar!

Blood.Gore.Unfairness. both are packed with those ,and will leave you depressed for a rather long time. both are a must see

ACTION ACTION ACTION ACTTIOOOOOONN!!!! both of these are jampacked with enough action to leave you wanting more and more and more.....very addicting. gantz is a little on the ecchi side though

Gantz and Red Garden have very similar plots albeit a little more different, They both feature peope who have died and are given another chance to live if they defeat certain monsters. However, if they die, they die forever.

Waifus, aliens and fight for better tomorrow. Did I mention waifus? You'll like them.

Two friends have a railway accident and they are brought back to life. And weird things will happen.

Similar theme: Action, gore, blood, killing, and a mystery element too. A mysterious entity brings together a wide variety of people. They are forced to play a game. Battle for survival is on the line.
report Recommended by AnimeFan500
Both are very negative and depressing animes. The main protagonist in both animes are normal ordinary individuals who become leaders and always find a way to survive.
report Recommended by bonkler
Both anime are adaptations from manga that have been made by the same mangaka Oku, Hiroya. Both anime feature "out of this world" power that the main characters get. Similar style of weapons.
report Recommended by SugarVenom
In Gantz you also see a group of people fighting ferocious aliens (well this time without any known reason, the aliens are actualy peacefull until someone attack them). Most important of all you get to see how the main character fights until he reaches his limits and tries to become even stronger, faster ...
report Recommended by JudgeRuthless
This show is exactly like gantz "arena". The only small diffrence is the teams are fixed before the battles start, they fight other teams and not aliens, also they have to get weapons themselves. To make it short, Bus Gamer is the realistic (real life) version of Gantz. The reward in Bus Gamer is cash and not points ... Anyways but animes are damn short, so you will maybe want to read the manga when you finished the series to see what happens after that. :(
report Recommended by JudgeRuthless
Both involve characters being forced into a game without any escape and death in the game means death in real life. However Gantz is set in the real world whereas SAO is set in a virtual world.
report Recommended by DemiFiendRaven
Although the main theme in both anime is absolutely different, the one important thing make a huge similarity - overloading amount of BLOOD, GORE, DEATH and true (not like in ShinNoKyo) using of trope EVERYONE CAN DIE. So if you bored from wacky, childish animes and bulletproof main characters, you will be entertained by both of this series!
report Recommended by surnev
Both are violent, bloody series that show the dark side of humanity in an unflinching manner.

#reincarnation #with special quest/mission fulfillment requirement to revive back into real world #death awaits failure of quest/mission #teamwork #real death #gore #main character with delusion of grandeur and main character syndrome #main character with selfish trait
report Recommended by HarimaKenzy
Dark and gritty with a fair amount of violence, as well as genetic mutations/evolutions in humans/robots that may give them monstrous qualities. Speed Grapher is more about corruption and vice, while Gantz is about violence begetting violence, but a fan of one series is likely to enjoy the other.
report Recommended by PirateKingz
Similar sci-fi feel with a lot of gore and nice looking guns.
report Recommended by Rekyz
Both are stuck inside of a game and confused if they really are dead or alive. They have to battle there way out by playing along with the game.
report Recommended by Jackster27
In both anime, characters are transported into another place where they have the goal of earning their freedom/life back. In Gantz, they have to earn points which can later be exchanged for rewards and in Jigokuraku they need to find the Elixir of Life. They are also fighting for survival with unknown deadly creatures which resemble deities.
report Recommended by Destinesia
Both shows involve players completing post-death games within a confined area, and with a time limit. The games are not all what they seem to be. Gantz is the more intense show, as all the missions involve eliminating a target, and there is gratuitous violence. The World Ends with You (Subarashiki Kono Sekai) places more emphasis on modern Tokyo culture, and enemies dissolve when they're defeated.
report Recommended by Gippy
If you like violence, blood, and gore that comes with martial art, then this is one for you.

I can't quite put my finger on why Blue Gender reminds me of Gantz. It may be the characters, the style, the adult-orientedness, the sci-fi, the constant fighting, etc... In general, both anime "feel" the same. Warning about Gantz though...has nudity and sex in it...I just skipped through the parts though and it was fine.
report Recommended by legos
In both animes the mc's starts out as an wimpy kid kinda, while as the show carries on they become more badass and gain a lil bit of personality change. They are also about aliens..giving them a similar atmosphere.
report Recommended by DXXTHWXSH_
Character models, gory themes and even the odd ed music is certainly nostalgic of gantz.
report Recommended by Nipsirc
Both essentially feature the same episodic development for the majority of the anime: school life moments -> monsters appear -> extras get dismembered in a veritable fountain of blood, splatter and gore for half the episode -> main characters finally decide to fight monster and win within a few minutes -> wash rinse repeat. Blood-C has a somewhat more sensible ending, not necessarily better though.
report Recommended by flumculus
Both of these animes presents many forms of human reactions to psycological violence.

intense action and lots of people killing and dying left and right
report Recommended by bonkler
Both are very violent, have a Sci-Fi Horror theme and deal with a disturbing side of humanity.
report Recommended by Inudrew
- Both are psychological - Both contain gore and nudity - Both have a very, very, very similar protagonist, a pathetic loser that thinks about nothing but sex. - Both have supernatural elements, aliens in Gantz and imaginary objects in ChäoS;HEAd - Both are very hard to watch but they keep you entertained somehow
report Recommended by Kazami
Exploitative series with violence, bloodshed and sex. Only major differences is that A Kite doesn't deal with aliens, is more shorter and has the hentai tag.
report Recommended by parallelle_slip
Both series are action heavy and feature intense, over the top fights against often surreal looking enemies. Contrary to One-Punch Man, Gantz is played serious and is a lot more violent however. People who enjoyed the fight scenes of One-Punch Man more than they did its humour might find more of what they're looking for in Gantz.
report Recommended by Carrot_
Similarities: + The same exact simple art style and kind of blurry lines. + Cool and exciting fights + Somewhat sexual + Both have lots of trippy and weird scenes, timings, and character reactions. Dissimilarities: - Gantz is far gorier, more serious and mature than Ikkitousen, even in the comedy aspects, Gantz humorous bits are considered pretty dark.
report Recommended by Kazami
both are survival themed action stories with lots of chaos happening and anyone that can die at any given moment as well too.

While these two have a different setting to them, they both have a similar vibe. Both anime are filled with action, violence, blood and gore. Both have a dark and moody feeling to them. If you like one, you should the other as well.
report Recommended by Genocyberfanboy
These two ultra violent anime have a similar dark tone to them as they are both filled with extreme blood, gore and nudity. They both have characters with bio suits fighting powerful evil monsters. If you are into blood & gore, these series should be enjoyable for you.
report Recommended by Genocyberfanboy
It is similar in many ways like both of them creature which are very dangerous to human. Killing monsters with weapons and skills and both have very cool & amazing weapons. Both have some gore moments. Both are action and sci-if. If you love gantz you will love god eater.
report Recommended by A_Z_INSANE
It is similar that characters die and go "to another place". In Serial Experiments Lain they go to the Wired and in Gantz to a room where they must complete missions to kill Aliens. Both also deal well with the psychology of the characters and their plots. Watching it, you can see more similarities between the two. The biggest difference is that Gantz is an action anime.
report Recommended by ProxyLain
Similar theme: Action, Gore, Blood, Killing and they have a Psychological element as well. Both main characters (Yuri Honjo and Kei Kurono) get trapped in another world, which has been set up by a mysterious entity, with situations put their lives at risk, including enemies and deaths. High-Rise Invasion is more of a shonen style and supernatural powers, while Gantz has high tech weapons If you liked High-Rise Invasion then you will like Gantz too
report Recommended by Cykurofan2007
Both of these anime have characters using bio suits fighting other powerful evil monsters. They both deal with themes of the darker sides of human nature. Not to mention, these two anime are filled with action, blood, gore and violence. Definitely recommended these two anime for anyone who enjoys dark violent anime.

With characters being teleported to an unfamiliar location meeting new beings and fighting to survive it can be percieved as being similar

Mnemosyne is commonly referred to as torture porn. While I disagree that it is as explicit as that, Mnemosyne is still an extremely violent, mature, and sexual show with great story and characters. Another series with similar qualities is Gantz. If you're looking for an equally vipent, bloody, and explicit series that takes itself a little less seriously, then Gantz is definitely one you should check out.
report Recommended by FalseShepherd13
A similar idea of the game taking place in the real world yet having seemingly no communication or help from anyone that is not part of it, essentially being invisible during it.

lets see both main characters who start off with a trashy low life beginning and have a similar death in common at the start of the show and are brought back to life to some capacity. both form teams and battle monsters gantz :aliens Yu yu Hakusho: demons.

(alright for the record if i compare the Persona 5 animation i also at the same time mean to compare the game but video games ain't in the myanimelist so this will have to do) both Gantz and Persona 5 have the concept of a troubled teen along with some random acquaintances get teleported in some astral projection type method Gantz through death and after that, the Gantz ball's decision...Persona 5 through cell phone app and they also meet in a designated spot before taking on missions...in the world they get teleported to they have to battle alot  read more

w-well you see i just watched gantz and the first anime that come in my mind is 11eyes when people are fighting when the time come up and beat some monster.. thats all...but just watched and you can see what im saying note:-nudity for adult only or people who has adult mind...

A dark world, cool music and cool fight scenes, a game-like setting where your life is at stake. Both series are fast paced and make you think more and more about moral questions as the story progresses.
report Recommended by Lopika
Although the messages offered by the two are different, there's something slightly similar between the two as concerns the style of splatter scenes that both provide, such as the humans' behavior for the respective situations.

A second chance to continue living after death, but with a condition: very hard fighting to survive. Main characters are being forced to kill enemies for their own lives.

Fortunatelly Netflix's Ultraman is not another 'Power Rangers'. For me it is very similar to Gantz series: superpower from space; bad and good aliens, naïve main protagonist etc.
report Recommended by LordCrane
Older teen is forced to frequently fight in a separate dimension under the control of an otherworldy creature. Gantz is darker/more mature and about survival ... while C while remaining a serious show is less dramatic/dark and is all about money.
report Recommended by NurseJoy904
I think Gantz and Hellsing Ultimate are quite common in both the blood and gore department as well as with the dark comic element in both series.
report Recommended by JackCox
In both animes there are shool students fighting monsters while risking their lives. Both animes have a unique, quite serious feeling in them and a rather dark atmosphere.
report Recommended by Juxian
Both series have a serious haunting mood coming from the hunter and the hunted setting. Kakurenbo's monsters also resemble some of the ones in Gantz. Give the kids in Kakurenbo guns and add some gore and you basically got the same thing.

Same kind of mysterious anticipation SF story where characters are playing a game and must survive.

They're both rather experimental in terms of anime productions something that's not seen too often

1. Both series share the same philosophy of killing in order to live. 2. Both series have a lot of bloodshed. 3. Both series have an excellent character development. 4. Both series are tragic. 5. Both series have a somewhat romantic thing going on. (Not the usual kind of love.) 6. Both protagonists are being manipulated. 7. Both protagonists have very strong qualities. 8. Both protagonists have some kind of resemblance.

Gantz begins when a boy decides to help an old friend, to save a homeless man from being hit by the train. The boy did not help either, as most of the people present there, he does not really care about the beggar. They saved the beggar, but they were both killed by the train. And now to have a second chance to live, they have to win a game in which risk their lives. Both are bloody horrors where the main charcther is suddenly surrounded by horrible deaths when introudeced to a new place,Gantz is more of a Action where as Another is more of a Mystery.

In both of these series, after death people are put into a strange place, where they're forced to take part in a deadly game which real purpose they don't know. The reactions in face of dying (again?) are similar.

In both: - group of chosen people need to fight with space-invaders - the defense was organised by strange creature (but in Gantz he organized the trening of group, in Nobunagun he create the Organization) - scenes of the death Both are: good mix of serious themes and trash-horror action. Gantz is more dark, but Nobunagun have more interesting MC's personality

Gantz and Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica are very similar in the story line. Gantz is way more violent and has some sex, but basically, in both anime they have to go to a different dimension(basically) and kill something because they are being told to. In both animes they have to survive, some might make it, some don't, and the ending has a twist.
report Recommended by xxxcreep
Both shows are similar in their psychological factor and could be characterized as weird. Although Gantz is a sci-fi series with a lot of violence, nudity and splatter it is quite similar in the fact that both shows use symbolism and require from its viewer to think and question what they see. You will need to think about what people's characters and their relationship to each other and their environment represent. If you liked the "weird" aspect of Gantz and you like in general mind f***ks than you will like Utena.
