IGPX and Air Gear have similar sports. Both the IGP and A-T involve ranked teams competing, battling, and maneuvering obstacles. The mechs in IGPX are really just a larger, form of a human on an A-T. Both are shounen animes with battle/racing and big emphasis on teamwork as an ambitious leader tries to take his team to the top.
Both involve sports, action, & romance towards the end

Both feature giant robots in a tournament-style competition.

both about racing and action

The first episode will make you think of IGPX because of its similar mech design, spartan computer generated environment and a never ending highway chase. But then you'll start wishing you were watching IGPX instead because Viper's Creed is entirely unremarkable.
In fact, I think I might have done IGPX a disservice by comparing it to Viper's Creed.

Both plots revolve around racing competitions, although in IGPX is futuristic while Capeta is more in the present. In Capeta, there is more of a Hikaru No Go type rivalry going on with the main character than with IGPX, which was to me more a struggle with sudden popularity.

Racing takes place in transforming mecha-type vehicles.

both focus on a male protagonist concerned with getting better at piloting mechas each with it's respective sports element fare. REALLY GOOD !!
