Petite Princess Yucie follows the adventures of country-girl Yucie as she is admitted by chance to the prestigious Princess Academy, where the daughters of royalty and nobles attend to learn magic, dance, etiquette, defense, art and music.

There, she experiences many things in her quest to collect the "fragments" of the Eternal Tiara in hopes that she may become the legendary Platinum Princess, who is chosen every 1,000 years.

Yucie, along with the four other Princess candidates who are initially her rivals but are won over by her offer of friendship, must grow in heart--if not in height--to become worthy of the Tiara.

Yucie is a spunky heroine who is a genius of smiles, and who, despite her common lifestyle, is actually the daughter of a noble and former hero who has retreated from courtly life and lives in the countryside.

You see the words Magical Girl in the key words and what is your main thought? Maybe something like Sailor Moon where you have a 10 minute transformation scene, or maybe even Card Capture Sakura where she runs around trying to capture all the spirits of the cards. Well, this show is a little bit different (although there are transformation scenes). Instead, we have a girl who grew up in a pretty normal household. Sure her father found her in the woods but he treats her exactly how someone would treat a real daughter. He fusses over her, tries hard to have her wear pretty read more

Puchi Puri Yuushi, perhaps better known by its English title of Petite Princess Yucie, is a nice little series that is often overlooked for more popular shows, yet it’s just as deserving of attention. The story begins on Yucie’s first day of classes at the Princess Academy, a school for young girls from the five different worlds who want to become princesses or like princesses. The thing is, Yucie isn’t a young girl but a 17-year-old trapped in the body of one! When she finds out that one student will become the Platinum Princess and obtain one wish, however, her mind is made up to read more

Okay, as a whole we are all different sizes in this world. Some big...some small...some average in height. Nobody really ever expects to remain the same height they were back when they were ten years old right? Well poor Yuushi, it seems like things didn’t quite work out for her in this department. "Puchi Puri Yuushi" takes place in a more mid-evil fairytale time, and comes with a lot of cuteness along with it!

Story: 8/10
Our story is all about a young girl named Yuushi (Yucie in America), she was found abandoned by her foster dad, who later finds out that this girl is different than read more

I'll let it be known upfront I am not a big fan of "magical girl" shows. Although I used to watch Sailor Moon when it aired on TV, I never really got into it. And although I watched some of Cardcaptors, when it aired on TV I really really hated it. So yeah was never big on the magical girl genre. I mean really a bunch of girls with magical powers, fighting bad guys with secret identities? Really? The power of love and good intentions defeating evil with ease, and lots of girly stuff abound. I think I'll pass. I am a dude after all. read more

Anime: Princess Tutu
Both Princess Tutu and Petite Princess Yucie are magical girl shows, that will appeal to many people, even those who dislike said genre. They have great emotional stories, interesting characters, and wonderful production values. These are the "best of the best" in regards to magical girl shows. They are similar in tone, atmposhere, and style. And although the plots are vastly different, I think fans of one series would like the other as well.

Anime: Nishi no Yoki Majo: Astraea Testament
These two shows focus on the element of queen candidates, the only difference is that The good witch of the north has more romance while Puchi Puri Yuushi is a bit more childish, and I would recommend it more to children. While The good witch of the west, in my personal opinion is better, the only downfall is that it is more rushed then PPY.

Anime: Nanatsu-iro★Drops
Nanatsuiro Drops and Puchi Puri Yuushi both have cute, 'fluffy' settings with magic as a theme. They also both focus on romance, although the romance is more prevalent in Nanatsuiro Drops. Both of the main characters in these series have to deal with "rivals" who are sometimes viewed by the main character as friends and overcome emotional struggles as well as physical ones.

Anime: Sugar Sugar Rune
Puchi Puri Yuushi/Petite Princess Yucie and Sugar Sugar Rune Similarities:

-Both have a spunky heroine
-Involve magic, and fantasy elements like unicorns, dragons and fairies
-Both about young girls wanting to become royalty, with tests and tasks against other girls (Yucie is actually 17.. but looks like a 10 year old so this is a little different)
-Friends are close and rivals
-In both the characters have to collect magic items to become Princess/Queen, in Yucie they collect fragments of a magical tiara and in Sugar Sugar Rune they collect crystal hearts

Overall they are both cute shows with similar elements, if  read more

Anime: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
These magical girl shows share a heavy focus on friendship and sisterhood along with some romance.
Finding the princess (who must also be a warrior) and protecting her are important in both; instances of time travel/alteration can be found in both.
Sailor Moon and Puchi Puri are two shows that pack quite a bit of substance despite many people dismissing them as childish.
