Synopsis

Mixed Feelings
There is an air of sophistication here many full-length movies strive to accomplish. Wei manages to instill emotional catharsis through the smallest of details. He's able to portray longing and change of mindset without a word being uttered. The work also feels proud of its own artistry, glorifying Chinese painting in every drawing. It showcases such aesthetic as much as it can without ever interfering with the narrative. It's genuinely rewarding to see an artist growing his own style to degrees in which he's comfortable to indulge in it without putting the viewer in a weird spot. Simple yet wholly effective.
