Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is a 25-episode anime based on the ongoing manga with the same name. It's original run lasted between October 2nd, 2007 and the 25th of March, 2008 (on Japanese television, of course).
The genres include: shounen, supernatural, comedy, drama and mystery.
Let's get started then.
Story: 10
The story of Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is very original. A demon from hell (Nougami Neuro) who feeds on riddles and mysteries has run out of food, since he ate all the mysteries in hell. Therefore, he decides to leave hell and travels to the human world. There he finds Katsuragi Yako, who is deeply saddened by her father's death. Neuro forces the poor girl to become a detective, then he disguises himself as her assistant, so that he can get easy access to his food. Through the series,we follow Neuro and Yako as they solve various cases, sometimes with the help of Godai, who has underground connections. Most of these are pretty random, but there are some very nice plot-twists too.
Animation: 9
Madhouse (who also made Death Note and Black Lagoon) simply never fails to deliver. I have never seen a series done by Madhouse lacking in the animation department. Neuro will not make you disappointed, either. It has a very unique style of animation and the character designs are awesome.
Sound: 8
The OP of Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is "DIRTY" by Nightmare. It's a, to say the least, special song which actually fits very nice with the feeling of the anime. The ED is "Kodoku no Hikari" by Kagami Seira. It's not a bad song, but it doesn't catch my attention like the OP does. The BGM is good and well-executed to fi with the series, which it does.
Character: 10
This is where this series truly stands out. Almost all characters are very thought out and interesting. Of course, it's the main character that will get most of the praise here. Nougami Neuro, a demon from the underworld, is one of the best protagonists i have ever come across. He is fun to watch with his superior intellect and inhuman powers. His "777 tools of hell" is probably the weirdest arsenal of weapons I've ever seen. Katsuragi Yako acts as a sort of cover for Neuro, as the detective, but she gets some great development throughout the series. Godai is the ex-mob with many useful connections. He is the jack of all trades for "Katsuragi's detective office". There are of course more characters, but these three will be enough for this time.
Enjoyment: 9
As you might have understood from the score, I enjoyed this anime a lot. Even the random cases are very enjoyable. The main plot that gets thrown in later in the series is very exiting and interesting, although I have to say that the ending was pretty predictable.
Overall: 9
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is an easy series to overlook, but it is in my opinion one of the best series from the fall anime season of -07. This is definitely not a show to miss, although I can't promise you you'll like it as much as I did.
I hope you found my review helpful, and if you didn't please tell me why, so I can improve myself until next time. read more

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro... perhaps one of the weirder animes I've seen. However, this anime hit my taste buds right on! Honestly, I'm a big fan of detective fictions, main characters that are seen as intelligent, and overall weird motifs and this anime is PERFECT for you if you agree with any of the above.
Story:
Overall, the story is enjoyable, and not one second was disappointing. The plot was nothing too intense, so those of you looking for drama might think this is faulty. The plot definitely pretty mild compared to other animes such as Death Note, or Code Geass, but the main idea for each episode really, was to show us one mystery per episode and let us wait for that kick-ass catch phrase "The culprit is... YOU!" Anyways, i find it very hard to be disappointed after each episode because each episode was vacuum packed with great comedy, and mystery. One flaw I would have to critique on is Neuro's deduction and concluding was extremely unnatural... Personally I try to solve these mysteries too as i watch along, and you could probably pick out the culprit pretty accurately, but to determine the tricks behind the murders is quite the challenge because the show tends to pass over evidence a bit too fast due to its time limit of 20min per episode.
Art:
I'm usually not too critical when it comes to the art of some anime, but for sure this one stood out. You really don't appreciate the details of how well this anime was drawn until you go on and move to another anime to watch.. Many of the characters are drawn with a high degree of detail from eyes, hair, and to clothes. Specifically using Neuro as an example, you can see the streaks in his hair, the patterns in his eyes, tiny details like those triangle stuff that are attatched to the ends of his hair :S, and a unique blue suit that pretty much stands out from the typical crowd throughout the show. Another thing that caught my attention was Sasazuka, or Godai's eyes, because they were heavily outlined. It pretty much is used for characters to emphasize the "toughness" in their personality.
Sound:
I don't remember any great insert songs in the series really... But notably the opening theme was what caught my attention. They used the song Dirty - Nightmare to open up their series, and the lyrics match quite well to the story. Not to mention it sounds pretty dark, which undoubtedly matches that dark, demonic atmosphere. Unfortunately, the ending song was not something worth remembering. They used the ending song as an insert for one of the episodes that had to do with one of the characters singing it. Not my taste in music X_X kind of a bad singer too.
Character:
Most UNIQUE characters made in combination to create the comedic, yet mysterious mood throughout the story. Neuro is quite the sadist at times, though you would see this from a very comical perspective rather than a cruel one. Though, from time to time you do see him look pretty creepy with his claws and fangs, or his gigantic bird head >.>... Actually, his comical face creeped me out in the first episode too... But you would notice the irony of it all as you progress through. Yako on the other hand, was kind of boring =/. Well she was average on most parts, but her interesting points were that she was a total pig when it came to food X), and i guess her its also her ability to understand humans and psychology so well. These 2 characters create a great team together, as one person goes and catches the baddies, while one lures them renderless purging full of guilt. I can really go on talking forever about the characters in this anime, but these 2 guys were the key magics.
Enjoyment:
Definitely enjoyable throughout every episode. Whether it be the really funny episodes, or the really serious episodes. Once again, there was the occasional flaw in logic and deduction you might catch on to if you tried to pay attention and solve the mystery yourself, but most of the time the mysteries were pretty creative and many times made you say "wow! what a crazy method!" For the times where the mysteries kinda sucked, the comedy part suffices.
Overall:
Overall was worth watching from start to finish. Many of you may question the weirdness while watching first episode, but thats actually the best part about this whole series. The weirdness eventually catches on to you, and when you finish the series it really does make you leave a part of yourself in the anime. The ending suggests possibilities for a sequel, since Neuro has yet to eaten the "ultimate mystery," and i absolutely cannot wait for season 2 :D

Kuroshitsuji is about a demon butler, Sebastian, while Majin Tantei is about a demon detective, Neuro. Slightly different, but very similar characters. The shows both contain a similar atmosphere as well.
Parent/parents murdered, and the main character has help from a demon to solve mysteries leading up to the main mystery of who killed their parent.
These anime are incredibly similiar. They have the same dark, mysterious mood; they’re both about a character who serves/helps the protagonist; and, most of all, Neuro and Sebastian are the same type of character. Clever, skilled, cold, human in appearance but not in fact, smiling but then being creepy and evil any minute. Neuro=demon detective, Sebastian=demon butler. They also repeat their “symbol sentences” (I already feel this mistery under my palate [Neuro]/I am a butler and a demon [Sebastian]) several times.
They have similar main characters--Sebastian is a demon butler while Neuro is a demon detective. Both anime have a slightly creepy and mysterious mood, and the main characters are both extremely clever and skilled.
There are Demons in both shows. They're both funny too! They are also Detectives.
Both series focus on a (sexy) demon protecting a human kid and the two of them solving mysteries.
Where Kuroshitsuji is a very dark anime MTNN is more humorous (in a sadistic way) and maybe easier to watch for guys as well when Kuroshitsuji mainly focuses on female audience.
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro and Kuroshitsuji, in my opinion, are very closely related. Every episode is filled with a mystery and hold you to the very end! The differences are: Neuro's a detective, Sebastian's a butler. MTNN takes place mostly in Japan. Kuroshitsuji is in "back in the day" England. And Yako and Ciel are two totally different personalities, but even though they are the "main" focus of the story and are different from one another as it seems to me, Neuro and Sebastian are one in the same. Demons from Hell, looking for the best thing to eat, in Neuro's case it's the perfect mystery and for Sebastian it's the perfect soul, and they are very comical in a serious and, maybe cynical way. They go hand and hand~!
If it's mysteries, demons, and all around loveable characters you're looking for, both of these animes are for you!
Both main characters are focused as demons-one that eats souls, and one that eats mysteries. This says a lot on how they differ, but there is a similarity between the Black Butler Sebastian Michaelis and the "Detective's Assistant" Neuro Nougami. Perhaps it's their personalities. Of course they alter, but it's amusing how alike they are. Shortly after her father's death, Yako runs into the demon Neuro, who plays the role as an assistant flawlessly, but little do those around him know that he is really just feeding off the real assistant, Yako's, name "detective." He's the one who solves all the mysteries. And feeds off of them. While Sebastian, a gallant butler in black, serves as his master's servant. After Ciel lost everything he had, he sealed a contract with this demon, and until the end of his goals, Sebastian will serve him. With the hope of having a long-awaited meal. And so the two face many predicaments.
First of all, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro isn't really popular, which I think is weird because it's a really nice anime! It reminds me of Kuroshitsuji because:
- Sebastian & Neuro both are demons.
- Sebastian & Neuro both have special powers or are almost invincible.
- Both have a dark story with comedic stuff in it.
And I think both have a pretty mature story, it isn't childish. I really recommend to watch Kuroshitsuji and Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro.
Both series has a strange male protagonist (Demons) who is clever, independent, cold, and possesses supernatural powers. Seemingly, a pact exists between that main male protagonist and his partner.
Both series' style of story telling seems to have a dark comedy taste to it with strange sequences and various twists. There are plot twists that are presented in a strange way. Additionally, both series contains action, drama, and some violence.
Both series' supporting characters also play roles in the series in various mysteries.
Both are about sobrenatural and both are very funny

The central characters in both of these anime are a detective (albeit forced in MTTN's case) and his/her supernatural slightly creepy "assistant" with unusual abilities. Both assistant characters seem to have a kind of hunger for solving mysteries, though not literal hunger in Un-Go's case. Both anime are episodic mystery stories with a twisted premise. MTTN has an active element of (dark) humor though while Un-Go appears to be more serious.
You could say that both Supernatural beings that go around with the main character who is a detective eat mysteries.
Both feature an opposite gender partnership inwhich a 'odinary' person is a detective - they are acompanied by an inhuman 'mystery solvers' who gets excited when a mystery crops up, they then use their special abilities to get to the bottom of a case.
Within Un-Go, the mystery element surrounding pretty much everything is maintained in order to unravel later, whereas within 'Neuro, plot progression and character development are established at the start and continue threwout.
Both are about a detective and their supernatural "sidekick".
human who works with demon to solve cases
Well, its also a detective anime with a supernatural being called Inga who assists the protagonist to solve crimes (and gets his appetite satisfied in return)
To me, these two series go hand in hand. Both titles involves supernatural mystery with a very bizarre main protagonist who often makes strange jokes and has a peculiar sense of humor. Yet, they do help the main protagonists in their tasks especially in cases where their lives are at danger.
Both series has a taste of mystery as well as cases involving supernatural phenomenon.
Both series has humor but presents it in a twisted or dark way occasionally especially with the main protagonist.
For fans of detective fiction.
