Similar themes of human oppression and struggle. Both Lelouch and Eren seek to lead freedom movement in their own way. But unlike Lelouch whose character has elements of negativity, Eren is mostly a positive character.

Both have revenge based themes. Here's the similarities: Protagonist is wronged/traumatized (like Batman traumatized or worse) and gains an awesome power. Protagonist seeks revenge and uncovers truths and major plot twists. Protagonist realizes the truth which is the big picture and it outgrows his conquest for revenge. Protagonist declares war on society to change the world. Code Geass is more character development and Attack on Titan is more plot oriented if anything. You'll enjoy Lelouch more than Eren though (Eren final season is yet to be compared to).

These anime have very similar concepts. Season 1 of Attack on Titan is obviously just the beginning of the story so I think your going to have to watch all of attack on titan to truly see the similarities. However I think if you love Code Geass then you will also love Attack on Titan. Both story's have amazing twist. Its almost impossible to predict what's gonna happen in the future even if you watch the entire first season which is something i think both story's have in common. I dont really wanna get into spoiler territory (its pretty hard to not spoil talking about these 2 lol ) so ill just say if you love Lelouch then you will definitely love Eren. read more

AoT is super similar in the psychological aspect. Somehow both of these shows on MAL don't have a psych tag even though I think that's where both of them shine the most. In here we see Lelouch's character arc and how he changes throughout the show which unlike death note where Light changed almost immediately, lelouch is more of a stumble and gradual slope downwards. In AoT because it's over the course of 3 seasons we see a similar, often more gradual change in many characters asides from the main character. In season 4 there is a large change, and but each change and how quickly it happens correlates to what happened in the story. Instead of just a slow change that's impacted by story, AoT doesn't have that. It's almost entirely off the story, characters won't change much just over time but over specific events that have a lasting impact on them. It doesn't have to be slow, and it ends up feeling a lot more real when you see them change so significantly.  read more

Steins;Gate addpermalink

Both are very exciting anime, with lots of plot-twists, well-made and rich stories, great voice acting and lots of thrills.

In Steins;Gate you get to see time-travel and all its effects on the human mind and its possibilities.

While in Code Geass you see the ambition of a young man who gets the power to command anyone to do anything and manages to create an uprising against an empire (Britannia).

Both are mecha animes with very intense epic battles, the story plot between the two are both similar in a way to how they both want to make the world a better place and to become successfull in doing so. Theres quite a bit of mecha action and dramatic suspense with romance here and there, with some comedy to lighten up the moods. Very good animes overall.

Although the plot is a litte different, both main characters are very similar.
Hei possesses supernatural powers, wears mask on his missions and hides his true personality exactly like Lelouch. For both the most important are their younger sisters. Yin resembles Anya (similar hairstyle and emotionless). Both C.C. and Amber travel through the time, have many secrects and look alike (green long hairs, similar white clothes).

A man with a plan. Who goes all out with their ideals, using all their power to stop at nothing until they have reached the goal they've been waiting for since day one.

Full of action and military. Code Geass and AOT finales are something one could call an exemplary spectacle in the animanga medium. Would obviously watch from the beginning with both.

they are both about changing the world and both use mechas as a tool to achieve this goal... although code geass is smarter and has a genius protagonist, gundam offers loads of action and amazing mecha fights

Both are similar in a way that they have complex story line and mecha fights. They are both jampacked with action and political battle. Both their methods in aiming for peace is the same - that is to let the mass unite and throw the anger at them. It's like the main characters are the protagonists and at the same time antagonists. The artwork and animation are superb. The only difference is that R2 is a closure whereas 00 still has a sequel( Season 2).

Both Gundam 00 and Code Geass R2 share a common storytelling interest in dramatically portraying how an attractive cast of young characters attempts to change the world through the use of terrorism and the two series deal with the consequences of these questionable actions. This leads to sudden shifts in loyalties, the rise of new enemies and the loss of innocent lives as well as unexpected revelations that will impact the audience's perspective and challenge their emotional investment. One key difference, however, is that Gundam 00 places more emphasis on showing the development of science fiction technology and its implications, especially those related to the concept of GN particles, while Code Geass R2 introduces a number of new mecha but doesn't really give much attention to the technological explanations. Another distinction concerns how much of Code Geass focuses on the picaresque adventures of a lone hero who constantly uses over-the-top tricks against his foes, given that the story is predominantly told from Lelouch's perspective, which contrasts with how Gundam 00 places more emphasis on the collective actions of the core members of Celestial Being as a unit rather than on Setsuna himself. In short, you might get more out of Code Geass R2 if you are interested in the prospect of showcasing a tale of personal melodrama with exciting twists and turns. If you want a story that relies on old-school mecha elements and with stronger parallels to real world politics, then Gundam 00 might be closer to your preferences.

Both feature genius main characters who have a terrorist/rebellious hero alter ego. Both of these alter egos Playmaker and Zero are super popular and charismatic. Both seek revenge for their traumatic past.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood addpermalink

Both deal with someone with a specific view of the World trying to change it. Both have fantastic elements to it (alchemy in Fullmetal and "magic"/mechas in Code Geass) that adds a certain mood to the series. Both are very dramatics stories with lots of twists, but not without their comedic moments. Both are great shows, that will make you think, laugh and perhaps even cry.

- both shows have protagonist’s that are mostly child-to-teen like that shares a common  deep, secret pasts and are trying to liberate an area from foreign rule.
- both season have more lot of intense, factional plots and counter plots more than their prequel's.
- both have a faction that vying for control of different groups trying to exert their will on the grand picture of things. 
- both anime ended with a similar stereotype ending and epilogue.

Both of the protagonists (Lelouch/Koko) are young and very clever people who portray themselves as villains, using illicit methods in order to obtain world peace. The motivations to obtain their goals seem to depend, more or less, on some younger companions (Nunnally/Jonah). Both anime also involve lots of violence and strategies to execute their plans.

i wanted to bump this recommendation because the two series have a very similar style of plot. both stories center around politics and war. amongst the conflict, lelouche in code geass and luscinia in last exile decide to unite the world, all while being heavily misunderstood.

Aldnoah R2 is the spiritual successor to Code Geass R2, in my factual opinion. Geass made magic + robots THE in thing, and Aldnoah decided just to have outright magic robots. They are also, quite possibly, the only two series in existence that share an intense hatred of the word 'ORANGE!'

Magic robots are not even half of it, though. It is the cliffhangers to end ALL cliffhangers the respective first seasons end with and the highly logical way in which they are continued on from in these sequels that makes them one and the same, along with the shared character dynamics. However, a key difference is the added GENIUS of Aldnoah R2's cliffhanger continuation: unlike in Geass, it showed you what happened at the end of S1, in graphic detail, and then proceeded to have its lead, Blame Tryhard, climb back up the cliff he had just suicidally jumped off. In contrast, Geass just ended with a dramatic gunshot, THEN continued with a gravity defying lulz spinkick... and 'I'LL KILL YOU' revenge somehow turning into some kind of round-the-world straight jacket trip. Never again will my mouth be left so agape. In truth, I expected Aldnoah R2 to start how it did, simply because Geass R2 had already shown me SO MUCH of the joys that come with original anime mecha series. The caliber of writing just will never be matched. Period. 

Blame/Slaine is a lot like Suzaku, both in terms of character consistency and cliffhanger actions. Probably more accurate to describe him as a headless chicken merger of Lelouch and Suzaku in terms of his goal. I suppose if you take Suzaku's desire to sacrifice himself and Lelouch's brain, minus the brains, you get Slaine. There is also the princess obsession angle. Always has to be a Princess Moe stuck in-between the lead characters. Always. read more

There is only one anime I've ever seen which comes close to Code Geass R2 for the "ridiculous trainwreck" factor, and that's Kannazuki no Miko.  If you want something so silly you have to laugh your ass off and love it anyway, this is the anime for you.
