Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterunda. (The Anthem of the Heart)

Jun Naruse is a chatterbox whose life is colored by fairy tales and happy endings. However, influenced by her deep belief in those tales, she is too naive and trusting, and her words soon shatter her family's bond when she inadvertently reveals her father's affair. Naruse is scarred for life after being blamed for her parent's divorce, and her regrets soon manifest into a fairy egg—a being who seals her mouth from speaking in order to protect everyone's happy ending.

Now, even in high school, Naruse's speech remains locked by the fairy egg. Even trying to speak causes her stomach to twist. Though unable to convey her thoughts through words, she is unexpectedly chosen to perform in a musical alongside three other students: Takumi Sakagami, Natsuki Nitou, and Daiki Tasaki. Naruse makes her way to the club room to reject the daunting task, but changes her mind when she overhears Sakagami's beautiful singing.

Perhaps the fairy egg "curse" does not apply to singing, and perhaps Sakagami is the fairy tale prince she has been seeking all along. Will Naruse be able to convey the anthem of her heart?

Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterunda. was created by the production staff of the 2011 anime series Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai., and the two works are set in the city of Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture. It earned 1.12 billion yen in the Japanese box office according to data from the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan.

The movie was one of the Jury Selections in the Animation Division of the 19th Japan Media Arts Festival. It was also nominated for the Animation of the Year award in the 39th Japan Academy Prize. A live-action film adaptation opened in theaters in July 22, 2017.

It's been a long while since I last watched Anthem of the Heart but, I'll try to write a decent review out of it. Story wise, it's nothing out of the ordinary but, it does has it's own charm. The representation of growth within the borders of lies and youth was what I'd say interesting the most. I also appreciated the fact where it shows not the typical romance trope which truly brought out the slice-of-life in the whole story. Mixed Feelings

I'm a sucker for cliché anime movies.

SPOILERS TO BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN IT WELL !!!!

With that being said, this movie didn't hit the spot for me.

The mood set for this film led to believe he was setting her curse free. A little girl trapped within a shell, putting an imaginary sipper over her mouth, only letting her heart speak. We can see by her gestures that it is definitely her heart speaking and most of the time we can assume what she was saying by just looking at her facial features. Skipping over to the middle of the film he opens his feelings with her, ... playing his dad's favorite song as the ending for the play, mixing his saddened emotions with the gruesome ending. He knew she liked him, knowing the lyrics to the musical were her feelings. This dude is totally fucking unaware of his surrounding goddammit. Could he notice all along that the entire musical was written as it happened? She had those words trapped in her heart, and her hand wrote them down without the need of her talking. She also made HIM the prince. So far the mood was going in a great direction, he seemed to like her, using songs that had a personal meaning to him into HER story. Word by word, he began to crack her shell. We are told all long this shell of hers holds a curse, if it's broken it can be assumed it will be liberating to her and we know that because in the ending when her shell breaks her words escape from her heart. But where the fuck did this go to honestly. She found out he was still in love with his ex, the one person that was ashamed to be around him, to be called his girlfriend. The ex didn't deserve a second chance. If the authors were going to fuck up this ending so much, might as well make her kill herself at the end and follow what the ending to her musical was. Anyways continuing. So far we have it very clear that he was the one who was cracking her shell but I noticed something. When her shell breaks it's not that liberating it's not beautiful and it's his fault. He cracked her shell and stopped mid-way making the yolk come out through the cracks instead of in one piece. her heart yearned for him. The last words her heart spew out were “ I like him” “ I love him” “ I'm in love with him”, so the shell is her heart all along right? He broke her fucking heart. And then a dude that was never in the mood, never in the picture, had nothing to do with the feelings she had, had nothing to do in what was happening confessed to her? Hopefully, she said no because wtf. and also was I the only one that noticed the egg sounded a lot like the dude?

If you want to watch an anime with plots that blow your brain then you should watch this anime but if you want to keep your brain than don’t:

The first start of this anime is quite good because of the pain that main character Jun has to suffer but i don’t like the egg thing because it’s nonsense they just could let her like feel guilty and swear to herself that she will never speak too much to hurt people around her
