Synopsis

Eighteen-year-old Tsukasa Mizugaki has failed his college entrance exams, but after pulling some strings, he manages to land a job at the Sion Artificial Intelligence Corporation. SAI Corp is responsible for the creation of "Giftias"—highly advanced androids which are almost indiscernible from normal humans. However, unlike humans, Giftias have a maximum lifespan of 81,920 hours, or around nine years and four months. Terminal Service One, the station Tsukasa was assigned to, is responsible for collecting Giftias that have met their expiration date, before they lose their memories and become hostile.

Promptly after joining Terminal Service One, Tsukasa is partnered with a beautiful Giftia named Isla. She is a Terminal Service veteran and considered the best in Giftia retrievals, contrary to her petite figure and placid nature. Time is fleeting though, and Tsukasa must come to terms with his feelings for Isla before her time is up. No matter how much someone desires it, nothing lasts forever.

Prepare Your Tissues (for your tears, not R-18 lol)

Heartache! Heartache! Heartache! So, before embarking on this emotional journey, be sure to have a box of tissues handy. Plastic Memories is a bittersweet anime that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you with a lingering sense of melancholy.

Deep Meaning

Beyond the surface-level romance and sci-fi elements, Plastic Memories delves into profound themes of life, loss, and the ephemeral nature of memories. It explores the complexities of human relationships and the bittersweet beauty of fleeting connections.

Character Development

The characters in Plastic Memories are well-developed and relatable, each with their own unique personalities, struggles, and aspirations. The central pairing ...

Mixed Feelings
Plastic Memories has one of the best opening episodes, bringing us into a really promising world. It brought the themes of bereavement, and set up the ideas of conflicts arising from people seeking to avoid that pain. I cried on the first episode. Unfortunately, the full series is the biggest waste of potential ever.

The anime quickly switches from a sci-fi drama to a rom com. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but the romantic elements are really hurt by the fact that the characters are very flat and setup for the romance between Tsukasa and Isla is unnatural and perverted. Tsukasa has an unhealthy ...

I went into this anime with the expectation that one of two things would happen: Either it emotionally destroys me, or I'm massively underwhelmed and unimpressed.

So what went wrong with this anime? Why the low ranking? Because like most anime it tried to hard be "funny". My main example of this is in an early episode where right after a very emotional scene we then cut to the main two characters in the car, and our android girl fully admits that she can not hold her bladder for much longer. Why? >> Not only is the moment ruined BUT WHY DO ANDROIDS EVEN HAVE TO ...
