Groove Adventure Rave

Groove Adventure Rave is a 51-episode anime based on the manga with the same name by Mashima Hiro. It lasted between October 13, 2001 and September 28, 2002.

The genres include: shounen, comedy, action, adventure and drama.

Story: 8
Groove Adventure Rave doesn't have the most original story. It's roughly like this: Haru Glory, a 16 years old "Rave Master", must collect all five Rave-stones to prevent the world from being destroyed by the terrifying power of Darkbring, which caused Overdrive, a huge explosion which destroyed 1/10 of the world 50 years before. So, basically Groove Adventure Rave seems like your average collect-'em-all anime where the main character ... grows with every item he finds. And, yeah, that's basically it, but there are also very interesting back stories and under it's stupid upper layer, there is an interesting story for the ones that start watching "Rave", but I can't go into it further without spoiling.

Animation: 8
The art for Groove Adventure Rave is above average. It's nice and fluid, but the producers didn't think much about the backgrounds that sometimes look pretty awful. They stuck to the original designs by Mashima Hiro very well, and the art catches the goofyness of the anime.

Sound: 7
Not much to say here. The BGM is pretty bland, and the OP's and ED's are pretty boring. The voice actors on another hand were very good. Especially Tomokazu Seki as the main character Haru Glory.

The characters for Groove Adventure Rave are very good.
The main characters are Haru Glory: the Rave Master who has to collect the five Rave-stones to save the world (he is pretty much your average shounen male lead who gets stronger and stronger in order to beat the bad guys), Elie: the mysterious beauty with amnesia trying to remember who she is (the most interesting character whose past is unknown), and Musica: a Silver Claimer (meaning he can bend and shape silver as he wants) who is searching for a very special ship (your regular, arrogant cool-looking guy).

Enjoyment: 9
Despite it's lacking story, I really enjoyed Groove Adventure Rave. The last arc was not as good as the others but is still very good. I was entertained the whole way and I definitely recommend Groove Adventure Rave to anyone who's just looking for a fun anime to watch.

Groove Adventure Rave is a shounen-anime, and a good one at that, but it's not the best one ever. Remind yourself of that before watching it. Still, Groove Adventure Rave is a very good anime and will keep you glad for a while.

Basically, this anime is about good vs evil like many other animes. The leading characters are Haru and Elie and Plue maybe. Haru is a boy who has left the village with his so called dog Plue to vanquish dark bring(evil stone power) which is currently in the possession of Demon Card an evil organisation.
Elie has lost her memory and she is trying to retrace her steps to get her memory back. Both characters awkwardly meet and agree to help each other out.

The drawing is not all there but the story and gags kind of help in my opinion, as you will understand once you ... watch it that some scenes seem as though they are from dbz and some are just too far fetched.

All in all I give it an 8 and it is worth watching in my opinion. Just don't be too picky.

After seeing most of the reviews of this show, not much is explain why people love it or hate it(but mostly people love this)with the exception of one that is top rated at the moment. Here is my review of rave master and hope this is helpful to you.

Story:7/10
The story is very typical as its just a certain boy who is destine to go and stop a great evil but must collect something in order to get stronger and stop it. So why is this enjoyable? I'll tell you why its because of its back story and how the plot progresses. There is so ... much back story that explains what going on and goes deep to make this not bland and shows a lot of time is put into this. As the plot goes on, the objective changes. Collecting rave stones is still there but its how they collect them that is change and that I'm not gonna spoil it, but lets just say its surprising even to me. This clearly show that this is gonna last like 100 more episodes but then they end it with a cliffhanger. I ask why!? How come this show doesn't get more episodes like fairy tale as that still ongoing and lets not forget this is base off the manga of the same creator who made the fairy tale manga that the anime fairy tale is base on. I should also say that the anime is a little different to the manga which might disappoint some people who read it but to me its not a huge deal as I expected this but at least give it a non open ending! Now I know people might say its glad to end it because it might of drag like the other ongoing shonen jump titles and I can understand that but not to me. Also if you wan't all the answers to certain plot points they mention, you'll have to read the manga and I hated when they do that! So overall the plot I say its good but could of been great if they ending wasn't so open and gives the answers to are questions.

The art is generic but is above generic. The characters looks is just like the manga which is nice. The animation is also very fluid and seems to be done well. But the backgrounds looks very crappy as not a lot of detail goes into them. So overall the art is very good and fits well.

Music:8/10
The score is pretty decent. The BGM is pretty bland but fits when it comes to humor and serious moments. The ops and eds are good and can be pretty catchy. In the english dub version we don't get but the score use really show they care. The BGM in that fits since the anime is goofy and seems to go well in the scene but its still pretty bland. The op they use is just one of the best dub themes I heard. Well to me anyway. So I give both of the music a score of 8 as they both might have some music you'll like.

English dub vs english subs:
Now the subs is really well acted as Tomokazu does a good job of being Haru as he captures his personality very well. There is also Ayako who voice Elie which really capture her sprite and dignity even when she doesn't know who she is. The rest also did a good job so no need to go in detail but what about the dubs. For one thing it is very corny almost to the point of bad and seems to be for kids(which is no surprise since this is licence by Tokyo pop and this aired in cartoon network) but thats the charm of it. The actors manage to work around it. And I notice that one of them is voice by Tom Kenny who voice spongebob and he fits so well with the scripts he is given. Also I notice that the jokes are very funny to make a teen laugh. So I say check the dub but if you can't stand those kinds dub then stick to the subs.
Winner: English dub if you are into funny goofy stuff, Or Subs if you wan't well acted voice works.

Characters:8/10
Now the characters are pretty generic at first. They all basically follow a certain shonen stereotype as we seen in many other shonen anime. But as the plot goes on, it give lots of development for are characters. Plus there is also some things we don't know about them which keeps us hook to these characters and hope we get the answers. One example is Elie as the more close she wants to know who she is, the more we wan't to know. The villains show a lot of threat and plus some show that they might be good but we don't see that until its shown. But there are some characters we don't get the full knowing of them which is a shame because I'm really interested into these characters. So overall the characters are not as generic as you think and you'll probably have one of these as your favorites.

Rave master is a shonen anime you should check out. It will keep you happy but its not great do to some lacking in areas like in plot. But give this a watch as this is one of the better shonen animes out there.

The story is fairly basic: Boy must find magic stones to defeat the villain. But man, oh man, does this Anime get it right. It starts off fairly slow, but picks up real quick. It stretches out rather well over the course of all 51 episodes, and does it's job. The ending, on the other hand, does leave a bad taste in ones mouth, for reasons that should be obvious if you've seen the show.

Art: 8/10
The art is fair game for a show this old. It's old, and you can tell, but somehow, it ages well. It's got the old-school hand-drawn element to it, ... but it does so with some flair.

Sound: 9/10
The music for the show suits it, in my opinion. It suits the moments that it plays in pretty well. Also, the [ENGLISH] opening and ending themes WILL get stuck in your head for a while, so be warned.

Characters: 8/10
The characters, for the most part, are enjoyable and lovable. From Musica's hard-ass attitude, to Elie's ditzy, and sometimes hot-headedness, to Haru's heroic don't-back-down, but simple way of thinking, you've got a good selection of characters to like and choose from. They are relatable in a lot of ways, and considering that they are pretty much the basis for Fairy Tail's characters, I'd say they've got something going for them.

Enjoyment: 10/10
I enjoyed this series a LOT, even if the ending did piss me off. It's a great ride, and a great show to watch, along with Fairy Tail. (If you don't know, Hiro Mashima wrote both of them.)

Overall, this is an enjoyable series with a lot of heart that anyone that likes action and fantasy series can enjoy. While it does have some minor quirks and flaws, it is still very, very enjoyable. I definitely recommend it.

Rave master

The work of Hiro Mashima before taking on Fairy Tail as a new project. I don't know the manga by Rave Master, so I just have to focus on the anime.

With the third work by Hiro Mashima, I'm already used to the fact that he not only takes over the design of many characters 1: 1, but also their personalities and all the mistakes. Rave Master was, as far as I understood, his first work and with it, his questionable story took its course.

Rave Master has a subtle approach to plot and background. And here I am already at the end of my positive ... words and cannot say anything more about it.

The characters had next to nothing in the work. In that sense, it didn't matter that the series became more and more sluggish, monotonous, and uninteresting in the course of the episodes, as there was hardly any loss anyway. The character relationships were negligible and the comedy deposits were even worse than expected. At the very least, I have to admit that the characters seemed a little smarter here than they did in Fairy Tail.

How far-reaching the plot is in the end, I can't say because the work was canceled from episode 51 onwards. Right where the events apparently went through a major change.

Particularly negative in the work was the atmosphere, the music, and the fights. Most of the really important scenes were barely supported by music and appeared completely empty. The fights have been even worse than at Fairy Tail. Not much has been said about the power of friendship. However, they were immensely monotonous and even less dynamic.

In conclusion, this anime is empty, very empty. He is the definition of empty. There was almost no life in it. It seemed to me as if he had some idea and immediately sat down and lost his ingenuity in the middle and somehow carried on. It may be better in the manga, but the anime is a whole different story.

I loved this anime, Haru is Amazing, Elie is sweet, nice, and kind cute. (For being an Anime character) There's like only one character I didn't like in the holy anime and that was "Ruby-Sama" I hated that penguin. Anyways the Dark Bring is cool, but I really like the Rave sword's. The "Ten Commandments" sword is amazing. I also like how it wasn't like "Oh the Rave master is dead. NOOOOO!!!! Who's going to fight for us now!" It's different then that, Shiba the original rave master trains Haru for a little while. Musica is like the greatest character, His parents died tragically but ... what he didn't know was... Na I'm not going to ruin it for ya. Anyways this is an amazing anime I so hope you watch it...

This series was really good. I would suggest it to anyone who likes action and comedy. But one reason I don't like this show is that it only had 51 episodes. It left me waiting to see what will happens next. This was one of the first anime shows I watched. I love plue and musica. Overall the rating I give it is a 9/10.

Truthfully this could of been a much better anime. If it had focused more on the villains and had less filers I feel it would be much better. The beginning was good and I started to really like it but it got boring (I also feel like it should of focused more on the magic and not on tools for special powers but this anime isn't really about magic that's just a personal opinion). The 5 ending episodes or so were amazing but left the story hanging. I think it's such a shame they didn't continue this anime I think it would of gotten much ... better.... ☹️Also i would of loved to see more of sieghart and his powers he seemed amazing! Generally I would have liked to see more of the villains them in action but also just their pasts cause honestly they were empty characters.

This is my first review, so i apologize if its not helpful.
When the series first starts, your already in the story. There is no introductory to the characters or the story, although it obviously would be explained within the first few episodes. For the a good portion of the anime, its kind of slow. I personally love anime that include multiple main characters that can fight. But for most of the anime, the only characters that can fight are Haru and Musica. Another character is added near the end of the anime. The series really picked up near the end of the series and actually ... started to get really good, its a shame it was cancelled. So basically its not a masterpiece, but its pretty good. I recommend it, but don't go out of your way to watch it.

I loved Rave Master!!! It was one of the most epic anime I've seen so if anyone who likes humour and action then Rave Master is one of the choices. Unfortunately the anime was stopped so you would have to read the manga.

Rave is more or less the spiritual predecessor to Mashima Hiro's later but better known manga / anime "Fairy Tail" and story lines do seem familiar even though this is a different show.

The story is a typical shounen and if you like the genre you're gonna like this one, though "if you like shounen" is a key point here because it's not something unique among other shounen anime. We have a young hero named "Haru" who is the heir to "Rave", a special item which was created 50 years ago to rival "Dark Bring", its evil counterpart, which destroyed 10% of the world at that ... time in an event called "overdrive". Haru's goal is to rid the world of a group called "Demon Card", that is attempting to use Dark Bring to terrorize the world. The story begins when he meets a girl named "Erie" who suffers from complete amnesia but apparently is somehow related to Rave.

One thing that you need to know about this show though (minor spoiler, sorry) - the story is not concluded in this anime, rather then ending seems like an ending of a first season except that a second season never came out (and is unlikely to ever come out seeing that it's been 17 years since the show concluded as of the time of writing this). The manga probably continues the story since new volumes continued coming out for 3 years after the anime finished airing but I haven't read it yet so I don't know whether it actually concludes it. Anyway if you don't read manga at all then you may want to think twice before watching this.

The characters are very similar to Fairy Tail, mainly there's Plue, the guardian of Rave, which also appears in Fairy Tail (though in Fairy Tail it has no special powers at all and is more or less a cameo), Haru ("spring") is basically very similar to Fairy Tail's Nastu ("summer") and Erie is very similar by nature to Fairy Tail's Lucy. Also there are several characters that look very similar to other characters, which will later appear in Fairy Tail.
Overall it's a nice show from which Fairy Tail's character have developed and it was very interesting to see that development.

Art and sound are surprisingly good seeing that this is a show from 2001 - most shows were not even 16:9 back then and I guess that at that time it was considered top of the art. Even by today's standards it's not bad, so for an old anime it surpasses the expectations.

Overall, very recommended if you watched and liked Fairy Tail and want to know where the story and characters developed from, though note my earlier remark about the ending and decide for yourself whether to watch.

Groover Adventure Rave, aka Rave Master is a hard one for me.
I have most of the Rave manga and have read it all, and it is one of the best mangas I've read. It's fun, action packed, nice depth to the story, a great variety of cool characters,, powers and backstories, and much more. It kept me entertained over and over, and I loved it.
The anime adaption has very little of this.
First off. They start the anime in the middle of book 3 of the mange (no explenantion other than the anime intro) and the pacing of the show varies wildly.
Second. The animation is ... sub-par at best, and is almost an insult to the great art that was in the source material. It is janky and simple. The sound too, underperforms. The music is mostly generic and low quality, and the voices don't really fit the characters at all (Haru's voice in particular is very annoying and grating).
Third. The show just stops...

Overall: Rave Master a mediocre show at best, and a affront to the greatness of the manga series it's based on.

Did somebody say proto-Fairy Tail?

I found this a little while after I started watching Fairy Tail and realized that the author of both is really really good at recycling ideas. Credit where it's due, he keeps reusing theme tropes because they work and because they are what's expected from the genre. When executed well even the most copycat story line can still be fantastic. Just look at the way My Hero Academia is leading the modern shounen market, and it's ripping off a thousand other things.

I think where this show and Fairy Tail get a bit more scorn is the fact that they were written ... by the same person. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when you're imitating your own past works it's just narcissistic. But hey this isn't a review of Fairy Tail. It's a supposed to be a critique of the far less successful, far less popular predecessor.

And that's just the thing, when you looking at this series retrospectively it's very difficult to view it out from the shadow of the much more successful series that followed. Going back and watching it now it's nigh impossible not to constantly be pointing out the similarities and it really takes you out of the experience of trying to enjoy it for what it is. It honestly just doesn't bring all that much to the table on it's own to be worth a whole lot, it was a pretty forgettable series.

The way I see it, if you live in a cave and you've never seen any of this guy's other works then you might get some mild enjoyment out of this 90's fantasy anime, but if you live in the here and now I don't see it happening very often. I gave it a 6/10

Groove Adventure Rave, or the English dub name, Rave Master, which is what I will be referring to it as in this review, is surprising in multiple facets. First off, something you might want to know going into it, is the fact that although it is 51 episodes, this does not cover the entire story. Secondly, imagine if Bobobo-bo bo-bobo had a child with Fairy Tail, and basically that's Rave Master. Might seem kinda weird as Fairy Tail is a later work Hiro Mashima, who created Rave Master, but Rave Master truly possesses a similar quirkiness to Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo in both the inhuman nature of ... some of its characters as well as their weird natures, but still manages to have similarities with Fairy Tail to the extent that Plue, the Rave Bearer, is also one of Lucy's celestial spirits, and that Sieghart (Rave Master) shares as a very similar character design to that of Jellal (Fairy Tail). While those are very much surface level similarities, they certainly showcase that Hiro Mashima definitely did not forget about Rave Master while creating Fairy Tail, and it definitely shows in many of the characters and plot developments.

Story: 6, Rave Master's story isn't anything revolutionary for the anime/manga medium. However, it does a pretty decent job of executing its rather simplistic approach to story-telling. Basically, Haru must gather the four rave stones in order to destroy the evil of the world, HOWEVER, the story, while presented in such a simplistic manner, actually manages to complicate itself quite a bit. It does so by incorporating the other main characters, Elie and Musica--these two both have their own goals, Elie finding her memory, and Musica finding a ship/weapon known as the Silver Ray. Both of their personal goals manage to add a significant amount of complexity to the story. Unfortunately, while you've heard a decent amount of praise from me for the story thus far, this is where it'll start to run out. Most of the times in Fairy Tail the climactic battles are a bit too obvious because they all follow the same pattern, and while we are lucky that Rave Master doesn't always fall victim to the classic "the power of friendship" bullshit, it still has a rather repetitive nature. On the bright side, unlike in Fairy Tail where Natsu always manages to save the day in the end, the other characters in Rave Master actually help overcome some of the major conflicts, which means everything is not riding on Haru 100% of the time, like it does with Natsu in Fairy Tail. Lastly, as mentioned before, the anime doesn't cover the full story, which is annoying enough, but worse is the fact that they don't even attempt to give it a level of closure with the final episode. The final two episodes actually just spend their whole time setting up the future arcs, which you can only experience through the manga.

Art: 6, While it started airing in 2001, Rave Master is basically a 90s anime in terms of its animation. The quality definitely isn't anything great, but at the very least it is consistent. Perhaps if I was rating this when it was aired this section of the review would go down a bit differently, but the simple matter of the fact is that its just not a very good overall quality, when compared to much of the art out there today. Additionally, the fight choreography is lack-luster at best.

Sound: 7, On the bright side, the English Dub OP done by Reel Big Fish is catchy as fuck, on the downside its the best song in the entire anime. The OST's are pretty generic, and the English Dub voice cast is exactly what you'd expect from this era of dubbing anime. It definitely down plays the experience towards a younger audience, but honestly it doesn't feel that far off from the original target audience simply due to the over-the-top, ridiculous nature of the show.

Character: 7, Plue is best character for simply being so goddamn adorable, and Griff is the worst because he's annoying and sounds like spongebob. All jokes aside, the characters are kinda like Fairy Tail in terms of the quality of characters however on an individual basis, they're a lot more hit and miss. There's definitely a lot more flat characters in this series, but the main trio, Haru, Elie, and Musica definitely give me that Fairy Tail vibe to the characters, and I genuinely mean that as a compliment. While I personally consider Fairy Tail to be subpar in terms of story/plot, in terms of quality of its characters, Fairy Tail will always earn some praise from me. The cast is enjoyable (minus griff, seriously fuck him) and is probably the greatest redeeming factor for the show as a whole.

Enjoyment: 7, Rave Master is best as one of those shows you play in the background while you play games on your phone or switch, or atleast that's how I got the most enjoyment out of it. It is by no means unenjoyable, but it simply lacks the depth for me not to get atleast slightly bored if all I did was watch it. It's quirky, goofy, and ultimately if you don't have a stick up your ass, you should be able to get a decent level of enjoyment out of its ridiculous nature.

Overall: 7, Rave Master was pretty decent all things considered. Do I think I will ever rewatch it, or go on to read the manga? I can rather confidently say, probably not. Am I going to sit here and insist that you watch it? Definitely not. While I managed to rate Rave Master a 7 overall, and I would normally say, "Heck, give it a try", Rave Master is pretty unique, and if the description of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo and Fairy Tail's child doesn't sound like something you'd be interested in, then you might want to pass on this.

While I have been waiting for this show for quite some time, it was a nice surprise to watch engaging and proficient characters despite stereotypes.

The characters shown in the show were appealing, including Haru Glory and Elle. Though their design neither was revolutionary nor noteworthy, it had a charm in its simplicity and cuteness. With the mascots even, Plue and Griff added something special to the series, which offered character design creativity.

The show was pretty well animated with nice characters and wonderful surroundings rendering it a treat to watch. The action scenes brought out the spirit of the story despite some shortcomings. The plot itself ... was quite a twist – although similar to some shonen tropes, it had its own twists and turns that helped keep me interested.

In some intervals, the series seemed quite repetitive, but it still managed to break free from such expectations. While introducing a fair share of clichés, the antagonists contributed their own unique colors to the story. Overall, the show was written well for its type and even surprised me in that regard.

Rave Master holds its own appeal and possibilities in terms of a novel shonen show. Although it failed to revolutionize the genre, it offered a pleasant and enjoyable ride with appealing lead characters.
