You HAVE to watch the spin-off too. It just makes sense.
You`ll get a feel for the characters that look the same as the ones on Fuyu no Semi.
It's another part of the regular manga~

The weak and the strong, the one who need to posses and the one who is being possessed this is the main theme of those two ova’s. To love and hate in the same time. Both of the anime are about the same thing, but from different perspectives. The graphic of fuyu no semi is better than the one from ai no kusabi [but that's related to the year of production]. I enjoyed both of them, so if u like on title give it a try with the other one too.
They both involve people falling for the enemy - and as cheesy as it sounds, they're both really well executed. And unlike most yaois, there is an actual, solid plot in both shows.

Fuyu no semi is one of the few animes within the yaoi genre that hit you on an emotional level this deep, other than ai no kusabi which i can see has already been recomended.
So i recomend Zetsuai, a yaoi classic that came out in the early nighties this touching tale of forbiden love through the eyes of a man that feels nothing will tug at anyone's heart

Fumi no semi and gakuen heaven both contain BL. Both stories are very touching and emotional, especially 'Fuyu no Semi'. In both animes the love between the main characters are very apparent. Gakuen heaven is a very tamed shounen-ai anime. Fuyu no Semi has a very good plot with action, war, romance, separation and finally eternal love. In both anime there is separation.
However gakuen heaven, being a sweet sweet and happy go-lucky BL anime, does provide with lots of entertainment. Fuyu no Semi is more realistic in terms of deeper emotions and separation. Fuyu no Semi is dammed touching, especially the last part.
Watching both anime will be a great experience.
