Synopsis

Being the last of the Toosaka family, a line of magecraft practitioners capable of using magic, Rin Toosaka spends her days as an exemplary student and her nights practicing the family craft. When the time comes for the fifth Holy Grail War, a competition between magic users called Masters and the spirits of dead heroes called Servants, she enters with her Servant, Archer, to uphold her family's tradition and claim the prize - a magical artifact that can grant any wish.

However, a schoolmate by the name of Shirou Emiya becomes involved through coincidence and ends up as the Master of Saber, a powerful Servant in her own right. In the wake of the powerful opposition they face, an alliance is forged between them.

Based off the famous visual novel by Type-Moon, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works tells the story of how Rin and Shirou must work together to survive and unravel the secrets behind the Holy Grail War.

Ufotable's precocious talent in bringing Type-Moon's works to the anime medium was first proven starting back in 2007, with its adaption of Kara no Kyoukai, a series of seven movies based off of Nasu's light novels bearing the same name. Four years later came Fate/Zero, an adaption of Urobuchi's prequel to what is Kinoko Nasu's best known work, Fate/Stay Night. Both are two of my absolute favourites, and considering the enormous amounts of attention garnered by Fate/Zero, it should come to no surprise that a follow-up was welcomed with open arms and eager senses.

The Fate franchise, in the anime medium, has had a bit of read more

(This has been adapted from my reddit thread)

In life, one thing is true for everyone: we all have desires. Wanting to be wealthy beyond imagining, finding the love of one's life, obtaining that dream job; there is always a goal, a wish that seems impossible to reach no matter how hard one tries. Aspirations bring about both the best and the worst in people, due to the very nature of what they bring. And if these wishes do happen to come to fruition, they affect not just the winner, but those closest, too. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works Season One is the beginning of such read more

As a note, I have not read/played any of the Type Moon visual novels from which this anime is based. I did however find Fate/Zero to be excellent. Coming off of Fate/Zero I was completely pumped to jump right back into the world in Fate/Stay Night. After watching the entire first season I have to say that I'm slightly disappointed.

Story: 6
The story itself is relatively generic as a battle-royale for the holy grail, but is made more complex by the interesting heroes that are summoned to fight and their interactions with their masters. This season however was quite boring. There read more

Okay, So before I review the 1st half of this season,
I like to state that I'm not really familiar about this franchise that much to my knowledge, so this is literally my first time watching this series from this point on along with episode 0 so keep that in mind.

I've heard most people talk about this show during its airing so I decided to give it a shot.

The show starts off well enough given us introduction to the main characters including the plot about the holy grail having the power to grant any 1 wish to the master along with their servant in defeating read more

F/SN UBW and Kara no Kyoukai movie series are part of the Nasuverse, originally produced by Type-Moon. Like any Type-Moon creations, they are dark in its portrayal, showcasing clash in ideals between people who inevitably fight each other. Both are fantasy series in which certain people possess magical/supernatural power.

Both animes are death games, where the last surviving player will win something on a mass scale. To survive the death games, the characters participating are given something to help them succeed. In UBW, the characters have servants, who were once heroic spirits, fend for them. However in Mirai Nikki, the characters have personalised future diaries .

Both main characters are thrown into a battle involving the supernatural, and must fight in order to protect innocent people who are inevitably caught up in the conflict. Both have to deal with moral dilemmas of what is right and wrong, how far should one go to protect strangers, and the purpose to fight. In both anime other characters challenge the MC's way of thinking, as every character attempts to progress his or her agenda by killing his or her enemies.

As both anime are action anime, one would enjoy both series for their great fights and duels between either servants or  read more
