Prince of Darkness is a followup to Martian Successor Nadesico. The movie takes place ~4 years after the anime series, and is a direct sequel to Nadesico: The Blank of Three Years, which was released for the Sega Saturn.
Story wise its a sequel to the series, though alot more serious and not all fun and games.
its a relly good mecha anime it started out as a parady but bye the time it ended the story cosed it to becume a one of a kind mecha anime

They are both space operas with a twist of comedy. Both shows have quirky characters and deals with going to war with an alien race. They are kind of like the rebels in space.
Space opera + comedy = these 2 series.
I know that Nadesico has its own brand of zaniness and humor but it is almost the same with Tylor since both heroes (Tylor and Akito) are clueless when it comes to feelings although Tylor excels in being an idiot or savior anytime. The crew of both flagships (Soyokaze and Nadesico) have their own share of oddballs who chew on hapless officers anytime.
So if you liked space operas with a dash of romance and a generous helping of offbeat humor and drama, these 2 series are for you. ^__^
Martian Successor Nadesico starred a ragtag space crew as they traversed the stars and battled a race of aliens called the Jovians who, in the end, might not be such bad guys after all. Irresponsible Captain Tylor has a similar premise, as the eponymous Captain Tylor and his crew battle the Ralgon Empire, who were also sympathetic antagonists. More similar though is the wacky, comedic tone both shows take. Both Nadesico and Tylor will please fans of comedy anime.

Nadesico is a parody of Eva in every way. From Akito in Nadesico essentially being the Anti-Shinji to the way the crew resemble certain characters from Eva.
Nadesico can be considered a parody of Evangelion.
Both are 26 episodes-long mecha series with young pilots who fight against something that invades the planet (Angels in Evangelion, Jovian Lizards in Nadesico).
Some Nadesico characters are clearly inspired by the Evangelion ones (Shinji=Akito, Rei=Ruri, etc).
Even the opening themes are quite similar.

Macross forms the template that Nadesico uses. The love triangle, the singing idol, the macho friend of the main character, and the influence of culture on the alien enemies. The big difference is that the overall theme of Macross and Nadesico are different.
Martian Successor Nadesico is actually a comedy series, which by and large is a major tribute to the entirety of Macross. On it's own, Nadesico is already a very competent classic, but to have viewed Macross before it, you'll be able to pick up a lot of the referential jokes and observe where the majority of the tropes Nadesico parodies come from. Aside from that, both shows are sci-fi space adventures, where a single ship has to fight an alien enemy on it's own, with mecha, where the protagonist is in a love triangle with two girls, one of whom is an idol of some sort, and the protagonist has an very important mentor pilot. And a lot of other similarities....

One ship against alien army in space with mecha battles. The main lead being a guy with harem and a girl with obsession over the "harem" guy who doesn't seem to care...atleast not at the beginning ;).
Martian Successor Nadesico and Vandread are both comic stories focused on the crew and mecha pilots of one particular spaceship. They're also both cleverer than they let on, though this is much more pronounced in Nadesico's case.

Screwball antics one minute, fierce realism the next. It's a bit more serious and harder to swallow, and definetly not as family friendly, but FMP! draws a few parallels.
Both are 26 episodes-long mecha series with plenty of comedy and action.
But above all, the characters in Nadesico and their relationships are eerily similar to the ones in FMP. In both we have a pretty dense mecha pilot guy (Sousuke/Akito) who's competed between a friend (Kaname/Megumi) and his captain (Tessa/Yurika). Sousuke and Yurika are even physically very similar to Akito and Kaname. In both anime we also find the tsundere, the meganekko, the ladies man, the cook, etc.

Both sci-fi, and both have a largely female cast.

Comparing GaoGaiGar and Nadesico will offer two vastly different views on the Super Robot Genre of old. Whereas GGG is Super Robot show, Nadesico, through the use of the Super-Robot show-in-a-show, Gekiganger, takes the Super Robot genre and puts it in a completely different light, despite being a Real Robot show itself.

The name "Gekiganer" would be familiar to any Nadesico fanatic, and thus watching both Nadesico and the Gekigagner OVA is definately recommended, even though the two are essentially unrelated in terms of continuity.

If you like the idea of being one man with countless beautiful woman fighting over you, then you will enjoy these series. If it intrigues you even more to have to fight a war in outer space while fighting off advances from the girls, you'll love these series.

Both are parodies of the mecha genre. The mentor/pupil relationship between Akito and Gai parallels that of Simon and Kamina. Also, did I mention that they're both space operas?

Much closer than FMP! is it's spin-off. It's a little more comedy oriented, still not as family-watchable, but this matches up with Nadesico on the screwball antics, just with a little less mecha.
