Tamako Love Story

Okay I'll keep it short.
This anime objectively does not deserve to rated what I've rated it. It's pacing is slightly off, the art isn't as refined, some of the side characters are not well developed here or in Tamako market, the soundtrack isn't the most inspiring thing, the main character suffers from dense brain syndrome, among so many other problems...








... ...and yet I can't help but absolutely love this film for giving such a satisfying end to Tamako Market, and perfectly encapsulating the roller coaster that is the innocent process of falling in love.

Tamako Market and Love Story get far more criticism than what they deserve, largely because, I believe, people are trying to make it something it's not. Tamako Love Story, and to an even greater extent, Tamako Market, are not love stories. Together, they are the story of both the mundanity and beauty of everyday life, and how love springs up through said mundanity.

Objectively, this film deserves an 8/10, 9/10 if you're a sucker for kyoani love stories (of which I am). Personally, I think the average score is low, but not unreasonable. Despite this objective score, I leave this in the collection of protected anime...because to me, it is something special.

Oh, this is a really cute anime.
When I saw the trailers, edits and images I really thought that Tamako would be the cute introverted girl and Mochizo would be the popular boy who plays basketball, but I thought it was cool to see that it was very different from my expectation. And I have to say that I found Mochizo very sweet.
And about the story itself, I must say that, taking away the stereotypes of the characters I had created in my head, the story doesn't go far from the standard I thought it would be, it's a very cute anime, but, I think ... because it's a movie and having less time to make viewers connect directly with the characters, didn't make me have as much attachment or genuine happiness for the characters, but I think the film's goal is far from something deep and exciting, but something that entertains who is watching, and in this regard it fulfills its role well.

So, I usually don't write reviews (this is my 1st actually) but I can't stand seeing all this 8-10 scores which lead this movie into such high score (8), leading me to waste time on it. I literally didn't have any expectations on this cause I only wanted to watch a nice movie like 'Hotarubi no Mori he' cause I felt like trying something new but good. I also didn't watch its precuel 'Tamako Market'. Taking my context into account, I'll start this review.

The movie itself bored me to death ... (sorry to all the fans, this has nothing to do with y'all). At 51 min I HAD TO STOP WATCHING cause I couldn't stand it anymore, so I started to do other stuffs (I also looked at the timeline like 4 times cause I felt it endless) and then returned to it just to say I finished it. Everything was predictable and moe. Maybe it's my age but I can't stand anymore plots about people running in circles till they get what they want for 1h30m. I know, I know: Japanese are actually like that irl with everything. It's a cultural thing but they could do some interesting things in the meantime? no? just an idea...

Tamako is a cheap-copycat version of Yui (now, don't get me wrong: I love K-ON and Yui) regarding design and personality: kawaii, clumsy, strong-willed who'll get through bad times. You already know what happens with those charas.

Anyways, the most interesting character for me was Mochizou and yet lacked a bit of development: they could've written someone who's not already a copypaste of the basic gentle and cute boy who we would fall for. Maybe that's cause I didn't watch the series but I'm the ones that believe a movie has to stand alone by itself.

Only thing I really loved was art as everything from KyoAni. Nothing to say about it.

The story is your standard childhood-friend love story that had little cute moments like the ones involving the cups with all the symbolism and feelings those meant. There's nothing else I considered cute myself but there are more of those moments throughout the movie.

Maybe it was a mistake from me not to watch the anime first? That I'll never know. Don't care either. Though in the bottom I feel like I wouldn't have enjoyed this mediocrity. Even if I was 10 years younger I feel like I wouldn't like this (back when I watched basic things just because and from lack of experience ended up watching lots of nitwit stuffs).

I have much more arguments as why I didn't like it but I intended it to be as short as possible for everyone to actually by able to read everything. Even so, I think this is long, lol.

I'm sorry but it's a 4/10 for me and that's cause I don't want to be any more cruel than that.

Generalmente no escribo reseñas (ésta es mi primera) pero no soporto ver esta película puntuada entre 8 y 10 por tantos usuarios, lo que llevó a que tenga una puntuación final de 8 acá y a que me haga perder el tiempo a mí en consecuencia. Tampoco estoy frustrada: a veces se pierde y a veces se gana. Cosas que pasan en el mundo del anime. Teniendo ese contexto en cuenta, comienzo:

La miré sin saber que era secuela de Tamako Market sin absolutamente ninguna expectativa, ya que buscaba una película con buen rating para pasar el rato y ver algo distinto.

En sí misma, la película me aburrió muchísimo (lo siento a los fans, no es con ustedes la cosa). A los 51 minutos paré porque no la soportaba más, tuve que ponerme a hacer otra cosa (en el interín miré como 4 veces cuanto iba de la peli porque se me hizo eterna) y luego volver solo para poder decir que la terminé. Predecible y moe todo. Tal vez es mi edad, pero no soporto mas ver gente dándole tantas vueltas a un asunto por 1 hora y media entera. Sí, ya sé: los japoneses SON así en la vida real, es cultural, pero, podian hacer algo interesante en mientras tanto, no? Digo, es una idea...

Tamako me pareció una copia barata y plana de Yui (me gusta K-ON y Yui, aclaro para que no se confundan) tanto en diseño como en personalidad: kawaii, torpe pero siempre con ilusión de que puede lograr superar sus obstáculos. No es malo pero ya lo vimos cientos de veces antes.
En fin, el personaje más interesante me pareció que fue Mochizou y aun así le faltó desarrollo: podían sacarle más jugo aunque haya sido un copypaste del típico chico amable y bonito del que todas nos enamoraríamos, (aunque ahora que lo pienso tal vez fue porque no vi el anime) pero soy de las personas que piensan que una película tiene que sostenerse por sí misma y no depender de algo externo.

Lo único rescatable es el arte bellísimo como todo lo de KyoAni. Nada que agregar que no se sepa de este estudio ya.

La historia es el estándar de historia de amor entre amigos de infancia y todo lo que eso significa. Se valió de momentos bonitos solamente, como lo de los vasos y todo el simbolismo y sentimientos en torno a estos. Hay otras partes ''lindas'' pero es la única que personalmente rescato porque lo demas es normal. Tambien cuenta con algunas partecitas ''tristes'' porque ''el cliché de que el padre/madre de uno de los dos está muerto'' nunca falta.

Tal vez fue ''un error'' ver la película sin haber visto el anime antes y tal vez la hubiera disfrutado un poquito más habiéndolo visto, pero realmente no lo creo. Ni teniendo 10 años menos de mi edad me hubiera gustado (cuando miraba cosas básicas y por falta de ''experiencia'' podía disfrutar estas cosas simplonas).

Tengo mas argumentos sobre por qué no me gustó pero quise hacerlo lo mas corto posible para que la gente pueda leerlo todo. Aún así creo que esto me quedó muy largo.

Lo siento, pero es un 4/10 sólo por no ser tan cruel con ella.
