SynopsisAika is a smart and athletic high school girl. She is so competent that she successfully passes the salvagers license test, obtaining a C-class license. Yet, she is young and hotheaded, so much so that Gota still treats her as a child. Due to this personality, no one is willing to hire her for salvaging jobs.
Since she had taken the trouble to get her license, she decides to post an ad in her school to attract clients. She manages to get the attention of Erika, a daughter of a rich family and the leader of the treasure hunting club. She asks Aika to salvage something from the sea and Aika delightfully accepts the request.
However, upon seeing the state-of-the-art submarine loaded onto Erika's private cruiser and discovering their destination, Aika realizes the terrible nature of her assignment. This results in a clash with a group of high school girls in the southern islands.
Who is the mysterious girl named Karen? So begins Aika's newest challenge!

Nov 12, 20083 of 3 episodes seen 5 of 7 people found this review helpful AIKa R-16: Virgin Mission is ironically not the sort of anime you'd associate with the word 'virgin' given its content. However, it is virgin in the sense that it is the prequel to the anime OAV starring the very busty agent Aika.
The story is simply a fanservice-filled precursor to Aika's later history as an agent. We see doofy yet uber-competent Aika working her way through a very elitist private school, where is is commissioned by other busty young teenagers to go on a treasure... hunt of some sort. And on this trip, the "story" unfolds. To say that AIKa R-16's storyline was a brilliant masterpiece would be the same as saying the Mona Lisa was painted with chalk dust and cheese crackers: a ridiculous lie. This is not high art. In any capacity. It's stupid. The plot pretty much is assaulted by deus ex machina. At points, it even forgets the story its telling to engage the viewer in a nice session of action and panty-flashing.
Art was decent. It was all colourful, and they certainly had a bright, clean look to the character art and backgrounds, though none of it was detailed, it certainly wasn't an eyesore. And, I should comment, that the panties were also well-done (I say this as the girls' underwear seemed to be just as important to the anime as the girls themselves or the ocean and boats or guns).
The sound was instantly forgettable. I honestly can't remember a thing about it, so it goes to show you that it's neither good nor bad--just a non-entity to the anime.
Characters, characters. There sure were some characters in this, but were they any good? Given that this is OAV was ecchi animated, the characters were just mostly stagnant and tools for fanservice. Aika at some times will make you crack a smile, and she is an interesting lead, but it never goes further than her running around, fighting and shouting loudly. The side characters were all stereotypes. From the snotty rich girl to the quiet, mysterious girl, they all seemed terribly recyclable. Deep characters were absent, even mediocre characterisations was also absent. You have here a group of one-dimensional characters who may do little more than entertain you.
And entertain it will. I can't say for everyone, but even with AIKa R-16's poor standings critically, it does its job in making the viewer enjoy what they see. I have to warn away all those who are put off by fanservice: don't watch it. You will spend the entire time gnawing away at your tongue which you'll be biting on to cease the string of obscenities you will definitely want to scream. If rampant, pointless ecchi is not your thing, just don't watch this. If you don't mind it, then AIKa R-16 will prove to be interesting and fun to watch. I don't like fanservice myself, but I watched this anime purely because it was just so much fun.
AIKa R-16: Virgin Mission is not a good anime. It is bad. But it does something that not even some critical wonders of anime can do, and that's entertain its audience. For that alone, it was certainly worth a glimpse. read more

Jan 13, 20083 of 3 episodes seen 14 of 23 people found this review helpful Aika R-16: Virgin Mission: A short review.
As guilty a pleasure as one could get, Aika surely caters to those of us who enjoy fanservice. The story in and of itself is obviously far from impressive, but let's be honest, that's not what you're here for. You're here to see some cute, half-naked girls, which the show delivers; as promised. Oh, and more pantyshots than even the most perverted of us could ask for.
Story: 2/10. There's very little to be said here, like th...e original Aika, this is not the area in which the series excels. It's basically just "make up some excuse to get the show going."
Art: 6/10. The art is an obvious improvement from its predecessor (that's a given, I suppose) and it does look pretty decent, a huge plus since the series if indeed very focused on aesthetics. (Yes, I'm talking about the girls.)
Sound: 6/10. Aika has a good seiyuu, she does a fine job delivering her lines, which really does push the quality of the show up quite a bit. The music and sound effects aren't something you'd remember, though, and some of the minor characters do sound a bit uninspired.
Character: 5/10. Aika is likable. I much prefer the young version to the older, which I really didn't care much for. Her enthusiasm and somewhat silly nature, combined with an ability to kick some ass here and there makes an all-around decent character. Her sidekicks are very generic, though, an Asuka-like loudmouth and a typical silent-girl type.
Enjoyment: 4/10. This is purely subjective. As all enjoyment of art is, of course, but it really comes down to whether or not you like to see sexy schoolgirls fall over again and again, revealing their underwear. There is a bit of comedy thrown in as well, and it might hit home, though I found it a bit bland. On the whole, it's just a few laughs and some ecchiness, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, just nothing to write home about.
Overall: 4/10. I've seen much worse attempts at mindless fanservice. Aika: R-16 Virign Mission does have a bit of charm to it. I can't really justify giving it anything more than 4/10, though, as it's just a random 3-episode-pile of fanservice. I enjoyed it enough to not regret having watched it, if that counts for anything.
I do feel a bit silly, as this is my first review, but I wanted to pick a series which didn't already have 10 reviews written for it. Hopefully it'll help some poor soul make up his mind as whether or not to indulge his ecchi-cravings. read more

Oct 5, 20083 of 3 episodes seen 5 of 10 people found this review helpful I hadn't seen an anime as loaded with fanservice and ecchiness like this one in a long time! Basically, all female characters (95% of the complete series) end up nude at some point, revealing their breasts and butts, in awkward positions. If you like these types of things, you'll be very grateful towards this 3-episodes OVA.
The story is very silly, light, and pointless. Art style is good, better than many other similar animes, and they focused a lot in the depiction of the female... body. Sound is fine; the voice acting seemed to be alright for the most part, and I can't recall at all the opening and ending songs (that's how good they were). Character development is very vague for most of them. The main 3 characters, however, are explained enough as for the viewer to understand them.
Overall, I enjoyed the anime. It delivered a lot of fanservice, which I must admit I like, and it got me entertained. read more
