SPOILER FREE! <3
I was suspicious of this anime at first, since I had read the manga already, I was worried the anime wouldn't do a great manga's justice. Boy was I wrong. This is a great rendition of the manga. :D
Story:
Koizumi Risa is tall. Taller than most girls her age and most guys as well.
Otani Atsushi is short. Shorter than most people his age.
Problem... Risa likes Otani, but he's very dense. It's unbelievable how dense he is. The story revolves around Risa and how she tries to make the densest boy in the universe become her boyfriend. Throw in a childhood friend, ex-girlfriend and a cross dresser and you have a hilarious romantic comedy. And the fact that they speak Kansai-Ben through out the entire anime was a plus. Usually you find one or two characters with that accent in anime, but since the location of the anime was set around Osaka, almost every character spoke it. I love that accent above all in Japan, so it added extra points!
Art:
The art, to me, was very original. It was my first time seeing an anime that wasnt overly girly. (Im one for shoujo style) I can see it being similar to the Bokura Ga Ita art, but not by much. And the faces... the FACES Risa made were hilarious. Very original.
Sound:
The voice acting was great. The VA's were Kansai-Ben speakers originally, so it fit the theme perfectly. The only voice I didnt like was Seiko's. But I dont like that character anyway. :D
The opening songs for the first season were OK. They fit the series very well and did a good job of closing and opening the show. Now... The SECOND season song, by Hey! Say! 7 were awesome. Being a big fan of H!S!7 I was quite pleased to hear them opening and closing the series. :D And the rapper Umibozou made a landing in my book of favorites. His song "Shouga Ne Ze" was great and is now my txt message tone. XD
Character:
The character development could have been a lot more like the manga, like Otani. He wasn't, to me, as OTANI as he could have been. But other than that, the other characters were great. All kinds, A cross-dresser (Who I absolutely hated), obsessive child hood friend, a creepy yet hot teacher, a broken hearted ex, and a love struck Neighbor, and co-worker. They all made the story go 'round, without the variety it would have been a huge bore.
Enjoyment:
This series was a huge change for me, and I loved it. I was pushed by two or three friends to watch it, and I am so happy they told me too! The suspense, the laughter, the pure LOVE was a huge hit in my book.
Overall:
I recommend this to anyone who likes shoujo related themes, drama, and hilarious situations. Its great for a laugh! Watch it. You will NOT regret it. :D read more

Oh! the sweet trials of young love.
Koizumi Risa, a girl who is slightly taller than your average girls,
has decided to settle for guys who are taller than her to be
her potential boyfriend.
Now, it's not an easy task to find a boyfriend when she's always
been the tallest in class (even taller than the tallest boy!)
A maiden's heart is always fickle and here comes Atsushi Otani.
He's your typical guy, except that he's unusually short for a guy.
Like Koizumi Risa, he has a height complex
and only settles for -you guessed it?- girls who are shorter than him.
For both of this duo who has height complexes, they bicker non-stop.
They eventually became friends but their nonsensical bickering did not end there.
They even got a famous nickname and was labelled,
"All-Hanshin Kyojin" (which is in actuality, a popular comedic duo
that differed in heights, too)
Of course, it doesn't help that they sometimes burst out
angry words, in sync with each other.
People find them amusing as a duo.
As their friendship unfolds, Risa realize how sweet Otani really is as a guy.
She started to have feelings for him but is having doubts whether Otani
would ever feel the same way as her.
With motivations from her closest friends,
she tried means and ways to drop a hint at Otani about her true feelings
but being such a dense character, Otani does not take the hint.
In fact, he was too dense to take a hint.
When finally everything is out in the open, things takes for a
sudden turn when both individuals tries to question this awkward situation
where they are not friends and yet, not lovers.
Risa tries hard to prove her love for him and Otani tries to accept her
to be more than just a friend.
Of course, the path to love is never smooth-sailing.
The ending however, is a sweet treat to all their efforts to uphold true love.

The story was a a little overexaggerated but it was still a very cute idea. I liked how problems occures through natural unchangable events like height issues. In some case it can get pretty frustration on how naive a character can become, but despite all that swagger and people being to picky it still is very exciting to watch. Dont get me wrong, this anime clearly changes the natural thought of romance. Most romance animes are very cliche, but this somehow didnt feel very common to me. So it really made me wonder while i was watching this series, hmmm what can the girl do to show her feelings to the boy. the girl is little less than 20cm taller than him.
To really put it into perspective, if you like animes that are realistic and all about realism, do not watch this. this is farfetched and is really far from being realistic. first of all being 180 cm is not that bad for a girl. the boy being 153cm is kind of short, but not bad at either. if it was real life and i really loved the person, the height really wouldnt be a issue; especially is she is like only 6 inches taller than me. and this story will not make too much sense in realism wise.
but if you like to watch animes for the character and how the character bond, grow, build relationships, and their feelings; more of the human relation style, this anime will definetly will be suitable for you. I loved this anime. it is one of my top5 animes. Why did i love it? it was just plain adorable and heart warming anime. and i love those animes. :) read more

I thought it was extremely humourous to have the male abnormally short and the female abnormally tall. A great twist to normal shoujo stories.
And the fact that this wasn't some usual love triangle, or girl-loves-popular-boy-but-she's-worth-nothing kinda story really made it worthwhile.
You can see already that Risa, the main character, is quite amusing. And with Otani, the other main character, they're both.. amusingly amusing together~ :D
Yeahh. I can't say much without spoiling the greatness of this anime series. Basically, watch it. It'll keep you hooked on with the dramatic moments and the hilarious laughs you'll get out of it, and even a couple of major SURPRISING moments that'll make you gasp for air. :] read more

Lovely Complex is about a girl(Risa) whose height is above average and a boy(Otani) whose height is below average. These two have always been friends and are often mistaken as a comedy duo. That is until one day Risa start's to look at Otani in a different eye.
It's story sounds very simply, which it is. However it is executed extremely well. The height difference is handled with care and is never made really awkward. The story itself is a romantic comedy and it holds up to it's name. This has to be one of the funniest anime's I have seen. From the bickering between Otani and Risa to the amazing sarcastic nature of the their friends. I have never laughed so hard at something before in my life. Comedy however isn't the only thing that this anime brings to the table. No it brings some very well done drama into the mix. There will be several moments that will have you reaching for the tissue boxes.
Lovely Complex's characters make the series. Koizumi Risa is someone you can't help but love and cheer for her throughout the series as she try's to get her love across. Her perseverance throughout the series is truly inspiring, she overcomes many obstacles and no matter what she always keep's pushing forward. We can't forget our main male lead Otani Atsushi. Otani come's off as incredibly stupid, and I mean incredibly stupid. But he isn't in the least bit, he is just really innocent. He is just your average high school boy who has yet to realize his feelings and thus causes him to act the way he does. The series is more of Otani trying to find himself, and while it is a long bumpy road it is definitely worth the wait.
Lovely Complex's art isn't something extraordinary or ground breaking. The character designs are really well done and there is a lot of attention to detail in the environment. But the main success of it's art is just that it is easy to look at. You have a lot of great color's that come out and support the characters well. Nothing new, but it's done well.
The sound track in Lovely Complex is simply amazing. It's songs like the art isn't something really new or anything along those line's. But it just highlights the scene's and adds so much more emotion to the each and every single detail. I honestly don't believe I would've enjoyed this series as much as I did without the soundtrack.
Overall Lovely Complex is a great anime. It's a prefect balance of Comedy and Drama, it will have you falling out of your seat laughing while at the same time jerking at your heart strings. Lovely Complex may have some faults throughout the series, but they do not stop this series from being truly enjoyable.
And i thank you for reading my first review. I am sorry that you had to struggle with my awful grammatical errors. If you notice any mistakes or ways i can improve please send me a message and again thank you. read more

Well, what can I say?
Lovely Complex is one of the most unique romance/comedy animes I've watched so far. If you're a sucker for romance and comedy, then I highly recommend this anime to you.
Story:
A slightly smaller from the average height guy(Otani) and a slightly taller from the average height girl(Koizumi) are classmates in a high-school and keep on teasing and insulting each other. Therefore, they're called The All Hanshin Kyojin, after a pair of comedians with a similar height difference. They become good friends when one day, Koizumi suddenly realizes she sees Otani more than just a friend, though she doesn't admit it at first... Is it possible for a girl be together with a guy smaller than her?..
I think the story is very unique which is the main reason why I give this anime's storyline 10 points. This anime breaks (so to speak) lots of "society rules" or "stereotypes" or "idealism" such as, when you have a boyfriend, he must be taller than you and etc.
Art:
I'm quite picky when watching anime: the art must be bearable for me.. and I just think the art here is good, although there are times the characters are oddly drawn, that's why I give it a nine for art.
Sound:
The background sounds are always PERFECT TIMING,adding an effect to what's happening.
Character:
Both characters' personalities are simply outstanding for me. I think the character development is good.
Enjoyment:
As mentioned, if you're a BIG SUCKER for romance/comedy animes with a slapstick humor, then this is the jackpot for you. Lovely Complex is the perfect anime for romance fans. It's sweet, funny... and extremely enjoyable! :)
Overall:
Well, I'd give it a ten... 'coz I'm a huge sucker for romance. read more

Story: Lovely Complex's story had many twist and turns through out the show with no end until the very last episode. The begining of the story didnt seem much but once you start to see more and more you will start to see the briliance of the show that i loved and im sure many other people did as the drama of the show was quite realistic and is one that many people can relate to. The story's romance was great as well as its comedy.
Art: The art for this show was not as out standing and as animated as other show's but still good enough to enjoy the show
Sound: The voice actors chosen for the roles i thought fitted the characters perfectly
Character: There was a huge character development between Otani and Risa by far one of the best i think, it also focuses on the other two couples as well as other characters.
Enjoyment: I enjoyed watching Lovely Complex because of its great story and one of the best character developement there ever has been
Overall: overall i loved this show to bits and is one of my fave's anime but still not perfect as there were some parts that i hated. read more

This is my first review so go easy on me please!!!
LoveCom is one of those animes that really take you for a spin. There are many things to see, hear, feel, and to be felt. i honestly went through a range of emotions while watching this series and it is good romance I saw.
LoveCom has the story of Otani and Risa, a short boy and a tall gurl and they have a strange but funny and fun relationship with one another. The whole point of the anime is to show how love comes from the strangest of places with the person who you feel most comfortable with.
The art is good and i liked the style of the characterss with their long features. The music is all right but i can't remember most of it.
All in all, a good series and it is worth the watch. I liked it very much. read more

The most annoying thing about this anime is the Kansai-ben that starts to grate on your sensibilities if you have been watching anime spoken in standard Japanese for a while. The other annoying thing is the use of too much slap-stick during the inital parts of the anime .
However, once you adapt or ignore these aspects, the story itself is quite engaging and somewhat interesting even if you couldn't care about romance and the like. The humor is mildly entertaining even if it is too base in its methods.
On the characters side, there are some inaccuracies that are disturbing. The male characters are all pretty much 2-dimensional and dry while the female characters are more detailed. This could be because the anime is aimed at female audience but even that fails to compensate for lack of character depth.
All in all, the anime is a passable 7/10 . read more
