Very similar premise; Contractors are very similar to Witches.
Witches and contractors seems like similar, ^^
People with mysterious supernatural abilities join secret organizations designed to watch/control other people with similar abilities
Similar premise to both shows, superpowered people in a quasi-future society, both centered around a character with above average powers that seem conflicted. Both have elements of mystery, Darker than BLACK just feels a little more hardcore.
Both shows focus on the slow unravaling of a mystery and conspracy through police work and investigation, with small bits of action in between. Both have a case of interesting characters, great music, and high production values.
Let's just say Darker Than Black is much grittier and darker, and there are nothing assumed. It's also more intelligent and you can't find any over used cliche at all. If Witch Hunter Robin was an excellent show for you, then Darker than Black will be a superior show for you.

The similiar main character Lelouch and Hei act very nice hiding their true goal
Lelouch and Hei are very similar in that they both have supernatural abilites obtained through a "contract" (different meanings in each anime, but still a contract :P ) They wear a mask to the public (Lelouch is Zero and Hei is BK-201)and both are devoted to their little sisters. Both have Pizza Hut everywhere and mysterious green haired girls (well, one of them is really blond, but sometimes it looks green). If you like one of them, you'll probably like the other ;)
Blood? Contractors? Mysterious green haired women in white suits? Pizza Hut everywhere? Same time slot?! That's right - Darker than Black and Code Geass have all these qualites in common. If you like one, there's a good chance you'll find the other good/funny.
Darker than Black and Code Geass are both in a technological world where the protagonist have a very powerful ability. There are lots of pizza hut hidden in the background or just somewhere on the screen. Suspense and fights, thats what they are all about.
Whilst they aren't really terribly alike, the dark themes these two anime's share make them both highly recommendable, and if you like one then you will probably like the other. Both of the main characters, Hei and Lelouch, obtain supernatural abilities, and whilst Lelouch manipulates people and leads a revolution, Hei is manipulated by a mysterious company. But both characters seek to change the way the world currently works for the better.
The characters are very similar to each-other Hei is to LeLouche as Amber is to CC. Amber and CC even look alike! Now back to WHY. The goal for each of them (Lelouche and Hei) both involve their sisters. Both have "magical" powers to help them succeed in their way of their goal. Either finding or protecting it seems so alike.

Both are about how the people who have powers use them in the right and clever way to outdo their opponent, and not that if one person has a slightly better power that he wins by default or something like that. They both have that detective vs. plotter, and also they both have that mid-episode cliffhanger where you really have no idea how they would solve or handle the solution, but then they come with the most awesome things that you really never would have thought of. PS: they're both very good animes by default, you should watch them both anyway.
Both animes are just awesome. In Darker Than Black, Hei and the other contractors started out as just normal people. When the Heaven's Gate and Hell's Gate appeared they turned into contractors and got their powers which they killed people with. They lost their emotions and were unable to feel regret about what they did. In Death Note, when Light finds the Death Note and realizes that he can use it to kill people, he does. He doesn't feel that there is anything wrong with what he does. Also, both animes end very sadly...
DTB has the detective element to it. It's simliar to Death Note because of the "trying to outdo the police" part of the plot. The characters are wonderful, and the plot is unique. I highly reccomend this anime.
Both main characters act all innocent in public. When in private, they kill the bad people secretly and not get detected by the police.
Both are about people with supernatural killing abilities.

They have a very similar feel to them. The story in DtB is a little darker than GitS, and the worlds are very different, but the seriousness and overall feel to them is very similar. If you liked one, you should give the other a try.
Show is episodic in nature for the most part and is a crime/drama as well.
Both share a similar style where a greater storyline is carried on by seemingly unrelated episodes (or episode pairs in the case of Darker than Black).

|
Both have a similar sci-fi episodic adventure format, where the main characters take up missions and jobs in order to make money. The main difference is that DtB's adventures span 2 episodes whereas CB spans 1. ^_^
It shares a lot of the same themes and the main characters are somewhat similar. Both are unable to forget their past and move forward. The most obvious is the the style and the music as well.
Both feature a episodic set up of episodes and share a very similare way of advancing the plot, through encounters with different antagonists each episode. One episode of Darker than BLACK is also very similar to a certain episode of Cowboy Bebop furthering their similarities.

Not terribly similiar in their facades. However, that's what's clever about the two series'. They both have subtle details and philosophical questions that the average viewer won't be able to perceive on their first viewing. Physically, they both focus on chasing after truths that lie beyond a secure womb-like environment. Not to mention some of the brilliant animation that is present in both of them.
They have similar character development
world in future that has been destroyed due to human actions.
colours .. dark .. ergo proxy and darker than black are the two animes that really made me watch them almost like nonstop .. and they still often come back in my memories ..
both animes have character development and have great fight scenes and both of them are really complicated so you'll have to pay alot of attention

Same atmosphere, similar idea..
Both have action. However, Darker Than Black has a bit more deep story line. Black Cat adds some humor into the mix up.
the plot and some of the characters are alike, B.C is a little bit better and more hilarious & more satisfactory though ^^

Because Darker than Black is almost the same als Night Head Genesis about special powers and stuff.
They are both very enjoyable, worth a watch!
Both Anime Don't really look alike but there are things that both Anime have in common.
1.Both happen in a city with crime here and there.
2.Both have characters with weird powers and those characters also
are trying to stop those powers from coming to use the bad ways.
I think those two Anime have their black part a really alike and I think both good!

In both shows, certain individuals have unique super-powers thanks to a recent phenomenon. In Darker than Black, you have factions of these people up against one another. In Speed Grapher, it's one man against everyone else, a more exciting setup IMO. Also, the characters in Speed Grapher are less opaque than those in Darker than Black where the mystery usually takes precedence over the story, leaving so much unexplained that the show gets tedious.
Both shows contain a somewhat "dark" atmosphere with a lighter tone appearing now and then. Each has a "secret" organization that rules the city. Each also has a sort of "special power gene" that only certain humans can obtain. This gives the characters in both series new skills and abilities. With interesting plot lines, both of these will keep you glued to your chair.

They are both creepy and dark but have a very good story line and have very likeable characters.
It's funny sometimes to see that Ghost Hunt and Darker than BLACK both has the mystery type, investigation, type of anime. However, Ghost Hunt has more Comedy into the anime than Darker Than Black. On the other hand, I find that Darker Than Black has lots of funny parts on most of the episodes, but most of the time it's mostly focused on the serious aspect of investigation.

both series are about some weird event that changed the world and some individuals got super powers after that
they are so damn similar, i wonder from wich book they are copied or wich one is the rip off of the other one. :/
Both shows take place after an otherworldly phenomenon changed life as we know it. In Darker than Black, it's Hell's Gate, in Gilgamesh, it's Heaven's Gate--go figure. The associated phenomenons are directly related to certain individuals acquiring mysterious powers. Darker than Black is brighter and more entertaining than Gilgamesh and the powers are much more interesting and varied, but the setup is similar.

Both are sci-fi animations with a gloomy atmosphere and people who have strange abilities.
Have a similar dark atmosphere

Both of them deal with contractors who obtain super powers ... DTB is much better than Kaze no stigma in my opinion but they both have the same theme. Kaze no stigma is not as dark as DTB though.
The main characters (Hei and Kazuma) are both contractors and the others also have some extra-ordinary powers which other people don't have. Than we also have the detective/police woman, in Darker than BLACK Misaki and in Kaze no Stigma Kirika. I think that Kaze no Stigma contains some more humour than Darker than BLACK but I enjoyed both of this series very much. Somehow I saw some things that were alike so I wanted to do this recommendation..

Both involve high technology, plenty of battles and a somewhat dark storyline.
In DtB, Hei is somewhat related to an incident resulting in the disappearance of South America. Similiarily, in Noein, Karasu is distantly related to the disappearance of various alternate worlds. Both protogonists are capable fighters, and both are searching for what happened in past times.
both provided great entertainment, gorgeous protagonists and a scent of mystery.

What do they have in common? How about people getting powers (but with a price), an overall dark mood, a mysterious protagonist with an awesome jacket, and a whole lot of wondering about which side is the right one. And seriously, Hei and Joseph are incredibly similar - they both even have sister issues.
If you equate the Contractors with the Demoniac, everything else falls into place.

Also made by Studio Bones. Has a similar concept of social outcasts (Contractors/Wolves) of whose existence the general public is unaware, posing as humans and trying to survive any way they can.
They are both dark anime, and in both of them, races with supernatural powers, hunted by the normal humans, are trying to find their benediction.
In Darker than Black, they are the contractors, that need to go to the Hell's gate, and in Wolf's rain, they are the wolfs, that are searching to find their own paradise.
Police is also related to both anime,as well as mystery and experiments.
It is only that Darker than black is more ''light'' mooded,it even has some comedy at times, when in Wolf's rain that doesn't exist.

They're both dark Animes... they have really lovable villains... and in DTB the main character kinda has split personalities too... Elfen Lied's the bloodier of the two.. but if you like one of them... the other is worth checking out ^^
Hei and Lucy are similar in their personalities. Hei is very violent with his mask on similar to how lucy is. but when hei takes his mask off he becomes one of most gentle people alive with the given name lee like how nyuu is. They both use different names when their other split personality takes over. nevertheless, hei and lucy were both controlled by agency and rebelled against them and tried to eliminate them.

It gives the same kind of tension. The main characters are also both loners, and behave similarly in certain ways.

TMGK is about a group of kids who fight to protect the city. DTB is about a group that fight to gain the truth. Althought there's no real main character in TMGK, Hei is the lovely lead role in Darker Than Black. Both anime have magic, or people magical/mystical/spiritual powers and action, fighting scenes. Personally I love both of them, so watch 'em

Get Backers is more light and comedy than Darker Than Black, but the themes of powers is the same, and both series has main characters that manipulates electricity in similar ways.
|
|
|
They are two diffrent anime, but they both have the same kind of mystery: Why is there a big wall in Darker than BLACK and why do Coralians appear, in E7.
|
|
|
Both have the same hellish atmosphere to them. They're also similar in terms of series structure whereas Darker than BLACK is a different story every two episodes and Jigoku Shoujo is a story per episode. Definitely worth checking out if you liked one or the other
|
|
|
Yet another show where you've got certain people suddenly developing powers, factions of them grouping together, factions of humans trying to control or eliminate them, and various protagonists on the different sides. Similar at least in terms of the super-powers and the not-quite-making-sense-ness of it.

Like the law of Equivalent Exchange (The rule that alchemists in the series consider to be the foundation of Alchemy, or even the fundamental law of the world: to obtain, something of equal value must be lost.) in Full Metal Alchemist; Darker than BLACK has a similar form of "payment" as a form of a contract payment or remuneration in exchange for their superhuman powers.
|
|
|
Both have main characters with a tragic past. The main similarity is, they both move on to kinda a "different story" after a couple episodes. While Darker Than Black is to finding a new contractor, Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori is someone entering the site and entering a name. ^-^
|
|
|
darker than black is about some sort of parasite that crashed from space with a meteor, it gives super powers and have to give it something in return
ayakashi is almost the same
|
|
|
Both have main character with surpernatural ability , and both are very enjoyable anime with great and dark storyline too.
|
|
|
If you need action and a deep multiple episode long story to get your anime hard-on, either of these will work. Darker than BLACK contains supernatural action and police-scoured situations with a slowly evolving story, and Gungrave takes the action one step further with intense gun-fights and classic mafia-esque plot development. Watching one will prepare you for the alternative, but make sure you have several months of free time if you plan on watching both @_@

DtB is a more serious show than s-CRY-ed, but they're both short, very self-aware shonen action shows with some great characters and intriguing settings (DtB is almost set in a world which is the reverse of s-CRY-ed's).

both of the main characters work for some agency. also contractors and the cyborgs both have emotionless to be more efficient when a decision. both contractors and cyborgs are mutated humans in some sense. in gunslinger girl its artifical but in darker than black it is nonartifical and genuine. henrietta and hei both act differently compared to their peers.

It took me awhile to understand which anime is most like Darker than Black. I know that Chobits and Darker than BLACK are two completely different genres, but if you think about it they are somewhat similar. Darker than Black has contractors that are used like machines doing the dirty work of people without the powers of a contractor. In Chobits the persocoms were normally treated as mere objects. However in the middle of both series characters begin to realize that both contractors and persocoms don't seem to be just tools but they may have some life within and act like normal humans. I'm not completely finished with Darker than Black yet, but this is the feeling I'm getting between both animes.
However be wary that the story will be slow if you ONLY have the idea that Darker than Black is about contractors being humans. This is a great anime filled with action, violence and a great story.

supernatural, psychological, action-packed thrillers. both are expressed in different arcs, consisting of unique and very clever storylines. darker than black however is more based on the strange phenomena of people having strange powers and "hell's gate" whilst shigofumi is based on letters from the recently dead; but both are very dramatic dark anime which has lots of character development and intriguing twists and turns as well as tension and even gruesome parts. both good watches which require some thought (darker than black more so).

Both of these animes seem to have a lot of similarities. They basically both deal and have that mystery and investigation aspect.

Watching Kara No Kyoukai came to mind that it made me think about Darker Than Black. After watching Darker than Black and Kara no kyoukai, both animes seem so incredibly fascinating in terms of supernatural events, not necessarily supernatural but Kara no Kyoukai has more mystery into it that leads to more further investigating than Darker Than Black.
Darker Than Black deals with contractors who are humans as well, though I haven't really come to study about the true meaning of contractors, but contractors are just like humans who possess human characteristics.
That being said, I highly recommend this anime to Kara No Kyoukai due to the fact they both deal with investigation type of scenario.

well.... they both start the series in the middle of the story, and then TRY ( two lines under the word try) to explain what's happening as the story goes along, the characters in both anime have superhuman powers ( vampires and the other something called contractor) which they use to go on missions, each episode or two is about one mission, which has nothing to do with the original story, so of you miss a couple of these episodes, it's won't have much difference in the end, Speaking of the end, they both have a very similar ending, you are left wondering what the hell is going on .....but of course it would be different if they had a sequel, basically at the end, nothing really changes, everything is as the same as when the anime started in both of them.
By the way I didn't like either one of them.

Although the plot is a litte different, both main characters are very similar.
Hei possesses supernatural powers, wears mask on his missions and hides his true personality exactly like Lelouch. For both the most important are their younger sisters. Yin resembles Anya (similar hairstyle and emotionless). Both C.C. and Amber travel through the time, have many secrects and look alike (green long hairs, similar white clothes).
