Both shows begin in a post-apocalyptic world. Both shows' characters are on a journey to a destination which they know nothing about. Both are relatively dark shows, but do not shy away from humor occasionally. Both have action in them, but only when necessary, and the action isn't overdone. Both have fantastic endings that leave you thinking.
Both have very similar atmosphere of adventures.
Similar theme, world on the edge of destruction where human and robots/wolves live together. Some characters discovers in both titles their true self too.
Great animation, post-apocalyptic world with a prophecy, dark, gritty action.
Both are post-apocalyptic anime with the main sub-plot of searching for a brighter future and a better place out of darkness. They both have philosophical and supernatural themes and have some action involved.
The world is ending , it's granted. In both shows we can see struggle and surrender. Different attitudes in face of extinction. There is also a pressure on philiosphical aspects such as "Who am I" , "Where is my place on Earth" , "Where do I go" which are important part of plot.
Both of them have beautiful, more serious art styles that lean more towards dark and subdued tones, and they are animated wonderfully. Both stories are philosophical and inspirational, and they both involve a small, unlikely group of heroes who travel through a post-apocalyptic world in search for answers in life. They both have great fight sequences and a wonderful score. However, Ergo Proxy is even darker than Wolf's Rain, and the storyline is a little slower and harder to get. If you are patient and pay attention however, you will be rewarded with a satisfying ending.

I'd reccomend those who enjoyed the fantasy and animal aspects of Wolf's Rain try on Ginga Densetsu Weed for size. They both use animals as main characters, and they both have one of those scripts that can take you from a laugh, to bawling on the floor and back again in the blink of an eye. Although Ginga is bloody and violent, at times it does seem more oreinted towards a younger audience than Wolf's Rain is, but overall they're very similar.
both have animals looking/ saving there paridise
The only two animes I know with the main characters as wolves (or dogs, in Ginga Densetsu Weed's case..)
Both animes are about animals. In Ginga Densetsu Weed there are dogs who fight against bears and in Wolf's Rain there are wolves who are finding salvation for themselves. These wolves also can transform themselves to human form.

Both feature characters seeking salvation, unaware of what entails from searching for it. The main characters themselves have problems that are linked to what they want.
Both have high production values, have intense emotional scenes, strong moral messages, and have a harsh atmosphere.
Wolf's Rain has a much more adventurous feel to it, has an infinitely better musical score, more relatable characters, and is generally easier to enjoy.
Casshern Sins has more mystery woven into it, characters that develop more distinctively, a slightly better moral message, but it's a little harsher in presentation.
While both are not extremely similar. Both deal strongly with the end of the world and those faced with their own mortality.
Both are about wandering in sad, depressing world to find something better, both have action scenes, both are in some way psychological.

The stoty is really different, but the feeling is colse, exspecially the ending gives the same moral. The the song writer is the same, and it gives the sipirt to the show.
Both are produced by Bones around the same time and have soundtracks created by Yoko Kanno, which means...both are super great quality and feel similar.
The feeling is the best in these two anime. Freedom. That's what you see here. The art is also somewhat similar. So nothing in particular, but similar in all small aspects.

Both deal with apocaliptic themes and have tragic stories.
I'm so glad other people agree that these two are similar!
Both are dark shoujo series (I consider Wolf's Rain to be more on the shoujo side than the shounen side, and X is absolutely shoujo) with a large, primarily male cast. Sacrifice, betrayal, trust, friendship, end of the world, protecting the one(s) you love at all costs, etc. are all present in both series. All in all the two series just have a very similar feel to them. If you like one you will most likely enjoy the other.
Did I mention X has a wolf? =)
Even though the plots are completely different. i think some of the characters r very simular. also they both deal with the end of the world sanario's. and the main character has something to protect but has a very hard time doing so. both are great manga's though. you should watched them both. :)

Also made by Studio Bones. Has a similar concept of social outcasts (Contractors/Wolves) of whose existence the general public is unaware, posing as humans and trying to survive any way they can.
They are both dark anime, and in both of them, races with supernatural powers, hunted by the normal humans, are trying to find their benediction.
In Darker than Black, they are the contractors, that need to go to the Hell's gate, and in Wolf's rain, they are the wolfs, that are searching to find their own paradise.
Police is also related to both anime,as well as mystery and experiments.
It is only that Darker than black is more ''light'' mooded,it even has some comedy at times, when in Wolf's rain that doesn't exist.
Bones made both of these animes with about the same depressing, slow-moving tone. The major difference is that DtB is very episodic and Wolf's Rain tends to just wander all over the place. The protagonists, Hei and Kiba, are practically the same character.

The plots aren't the same, not even close, but the 'feeling' you get while watching them is the same. Dark drama, sadness, fighting, blood spillage, deaths and fighting to survive in a broken down civilisation with only 'hope' as your guide. Also that both animes have secrets about the world that keep you guessing to the very end.
Also the bond between the characters are the same.
The world in the both anime are mostly destroy from the previous war, and the remain human can only live in few place where not everything is destroyed.....and the MC from both show are escaping from the world where they don't belong and looking for a new way of life........both show have little romance in it but is still memorable

Similar atmosphere of dying world and hopelessness. They both are dark and sad seinens.
Similar atmosphere. Both have a female main character, who has special abilities. Both have have many male characters that are fighting (more or less) for a female main character.

Wolf's Rain and Witch Hunter Robin are both excellent series in which the story is presented in a dark setting. Characters are both developed and added slowly as you progress through the series. Each contain extensive action scenes and awesome music to go along with it.
The general atmosphere in these animes are very similar. There are minimal cute/funny elements, the general color of the series is black. However, the complex plot with sudden twists and climax makes these series beautiful works of art. (If my memory did not fail me, Wolf's Rain's plot was not as complex as that of Witch Hunter Robin and Ergo Proxy.)

Both series present a similar quest carried out by beings similar yet different from human beings. In both cases, they are hunted and repressed by humans who fear the greater power of their race. Toward the Terra takes place in space, in a more technological setting than Wolf's Rain, but they both develop a similar idea in an engaging way and with interesting characters. The endings are also worth getting there.
They has a similar storyline: Terra e... is trying to find the way to earth, while Wolf's rain is trying to find heaven, escape from the current word.
Both are meaningful and can make you move to tears.

Both titles include the main character and his gang on yourney. The difference is, the Wolf Rain's gang searches for the legendary place while the main character, Dr. Tenma from Monster investigates the person, he is after. Drama, mysteries and tragedies are higly used in both animes. Many really good characters die or sacrifice themselves in order to help their friends. The main antagonists from both animes are higly manipulated, yet calm and polite with smooth voices. Wolf rain is by far more supernatural, while Monster is completely realistic. Both Monster and Wolf's Rain are known for their dark nature.

Both animes are about animals. In Ginga Nagareboshi Gin there are dogs who fight against bears and in Wolf's Rain there are wolves who are finding salvation for themselves. These wolves also can transform themselves to human form.

Both series start out with the appearance of an appealing fast paced action anime, but it quickly becomes apparent that they are predominantly character and story driven with intermittent compelling action sequences. Both animes also have a battle against the odds, which creates bleak undertones that are predominantly overpowered by a determined and hopeful vibe. Both series feature a secondary plot following characters from a different side of the story, and a main set of characters that are unlikely friends. Both animes have strong leading characters, a compelling and wonderfully animated world filed with interesting lore, and are instant classics.

The nature of the theme, the animation style, and the amount of action in both anime are what make them similar. There isn't many fight scenes but the ones that there are are pretty conclusive. The nature of the theme is similar because they make you think about ethics, morals, and philosophy in general. The character base is a similar as well. By this I mean that the characters in each anime are plenty, making the angle from which you see the story line like a kaleidoscope. Also, the endings kind of leave you asking for more... they were mostly conclusive but there was a chance for more.

Two similar post-apocalyptic worlds, and both involve a princess-like girl, whom our hero must save, so that in the end she can... Well, see for yourself!
|
|
|
If you liked the aesthetics in either show than check the other one out.
While true Princess Tutu is a lot more colorful and whimsicle than Wolf's Rain melancholic and gray world, both have very beautiful soundtracks that coregraph with the animation.
In this way Wolf's Rain is a visual and musical experience in the same way that Princess Tutu is.
And of course if you like the story in Wolf's Rain for it's symbolism and subtext, Princess Tutu has that too....too. Only it's more references to fairy tales and stage plays and is not on a large of scale as Wolf's Rain is.

Both titles involve "wolves" in a sci-fi setting and feature a large group of powerful males that deepen their relationships and discover their shared fates over the course of anime.
They are both highly philosophical works meant to make the viewers think, albeit in different ways.
However, note that the Legend of the Blue Wolves remains unfinished, has lower animation quality, and might have more graphic depictions of the main characters' relationships.

It's more or less how these two are shot

|
Both are really good series, I guess I find it similar because of endings, the way people fight with each other, and the feeling of it.

Same feeling, both about fantasy, great plot involving action and drama.

End of the World Scenario, Strong characters

Both stories are touching and emotional and as episodes progresses, you'll see why.
Oh but that's not all. Both Wolf's Rain and Claymore have a lot of drama and action. Furthermore, the main character in both series is a silent yet determined type who works with others to make a difference in a dark world.
|

|
Both are great supernatural adventures with a secretive and driven main character, although Trigun has way more comedy although also similarly dark times.
|
|
|
Drama. This is the word that connects those two animes.
The story in Romeo x Juliet is more romantic than that in Wolf's Rain, but the main idea is the same- the prise you have to pay for your freedom or for the happines of your loved one.
Both of the stories are very touching and deep, have awesome animation and music and I hightly recommend them.

These two anime are nothing a like. But I thought I'd recommend it anyways.
In my own opinion Saikano is the most saddest and most drama filled anime i've ever saw. I most definitely recommend this anime to the drama lovers. I swear I never cried so much with any anime like I did with this one. I loved it. One of my favorites.
Anyways, same really goes with Wolf's rain. It's sad but an amazing anime.

Really similar atmospheres of drama and mystery, and of course, the fact that both revolve around wolves in human form.
|
|
|
Both Wolf's Rain and Princess Mononoke have a lot to do with animals, the enviroment, and both take place in a slightly post-apocolyptic setting.
|
|
|
Good draw, funny, there is much action.

I had the same feeling while watching Jyu oh sei even though they have different plots. Both are sci-fi anime about an the future. Thor is just like Kiba. Wolf's Rain is much better though.

When finishing up The Hakkenden I noticed some similar themes to the ever-popular Wolf's Rain.
One major similarity is that they both deal with dogs or wolves on a quest to fulfill their destiny. Where Wolf's Rain features wolves disguised as humans, Hakkenden features half-dog/half-human warriors. In Hakkenden the goal of the warriors is to break the curse on their family and put an end to the evil Aboshi, who can be compared to Lord Darcia in Wolf's Rain. Similarly, Cheza from WR can be compared to Hamaji/Fuse in Hakkenden. An interesting feature of both is that they each have the following line somewhere in the anime: "Who are you creating paradise for?" (paraphrased) They may not be entirely similar and their themes may not adhere to the tastes of all anime watchers, but if you look carefully enough you will see some striking similarities. Both are pretty good, but I would say Wolf's Rain is by far much better than Hakkenden, though longer.

In Vk there´s vampires while in Wolf´s rain there´s werewolves. Seiyuu Mamoru Miyano is in both animes in a main role. Both share a dark interesting plot.
|
|
|
Both animes are set in the dark and wintry northern territories, and they share a simular style of animation. But there's a wide difference... Wolf's Rain is a masterpiece, and First Squad is quite mediocre.
|
|
|
Both have very dark themes, and an overall quest for redemption.
|
|
|
Actually it means of similarities in its very dramatic and romantic story with a pack of actions! see how kiba and the other wolves handle their situations and problems seeking the paradise through the lunar flower maiden cheza!

No question: Wolf's Rain is the superior anime, but they do have a bit in common. Both center around a group that is seen as a menace to society and which the audience is meant to root for. Both also boldly kill off an almost unbelievable number of characters. You watch these individuals succeed through many trials, then suddenly that changes and one by one, they're systematically killed. The shift is quite sudden in both cases, but even more pronounced in Wolf's Rain. Obviously, watching the first season of Hakuouki is necessary, but the large amount of character death happens in season two, thus this recommendation. Frequent action and attractive character designs feature in both as well.

Well, in One Piece, Luffy and his nakama look for One Piece and in Wolf's Rain Kiba and his nakama look for Paradise. Both one piece and paradise are like legends but the main characters believe the legends and look for it. In both anime you can see the bond between comrades and how deep it is. Both contains a lot of good fighting scenes. In both animes, the main characters are not normal, one is about pirates and one is about wolf. Of course one piece is much lighter than wolf's rain but if you like either one, you'll like the other for sure!

|
|
Both series present themselves with adventures, but each journey also becomes a way to explore the psychologies of the protagonists. Wolf's Rain's ending has quite a different feel from Last Exile's, but in the end, the morals are very alike.
|
|
|
Both are about animals having to disguise themselves as humans in order to fit in and stay alive. They are even both canines. Wolf's Rain is about wolves while Pom Poko is about Tankukis(raccoon dogs), a type of asian canine. Pom Poko has a lot of humor though, while Wolf's Rain is very dark.
